Lunar Monstrosity

Estimated reading: 4 minutes

The Lunar Monstrosity is one of the two main bosses located within the Eternal Starlight dimension. This powerful creature inhabits a maze-like structure known as the Cursed Garden.

Defeating this boss is crucial for obtaining several rare materials, including those required to craft the Chain of Souls, which is an essential component for progression in modpacks like All the Mods.

Locating the Boss

The Lunar Monstrosity resides inside the Cursed Garden, which is located within the Eternal Starlight dimension and can be accessed through exploration or by using a Seeking Eye.

When tracking the Lunar Monstrosity, players need to hold a Lunar Berry or Tenacious Vines in their off-hand while right-clicking with the Seeking Eye. This will guide them toward the maze.

The Cursed Garden

The structure is visually striking and often appears elevated above the surrounding terrain, making it relatively easy to spot when in close proximity. Alternatively, players with cheats enabled can find the structure using the /locate structure eternal_starlight:cursed_garden command.

Preparation

Before entering the boss arena, players should ensure they are fully equipped. It is essential to have a weapon with Fire Aspect, as the Lunar Monstrosity is entirely immune to damage unless ignited.

Armor enchanted with Protection V, along with regenerative gear and flight capabilities, is highly recommended. The fight requires constant movement, awareness of environmental hazards, and the ability to deal with multiple enemies, so thorough preparation is crucial for survival.

Battle Mechanics

When the encounter begins, the Lunar Monstrosity spawns along with several minions. One notable minion is the Tangled Hatred, a tentacle-like miniboss that appears intermittently and can be captured for use in Hostile Neural Network systems.

Additionally, smaller Tangled mobs attack with poison and serve as distractions during the primary fight.

The Lunar Monstrosity

In the first phase of the battle, players must focus on environmental manipulation and ranged attacks. The boss will burrow underground and re-emerge unpredictably, launching poisonous thorns and explosive plant bombs.

Additionally, it releases gas clouds that cause damage over time. To disable the boss’s invulnerability and inflict damage, players need to ignite it, with the likes of the Fire Aspect Enchantment equipped to a Sword.

As the health of the Lunar Monstrosity decreases, it enters a more aggressive second phase. During this stage, the boss intensifies its attacks, increasing both their frequency and power. It unleashes shockwaves and extends its melee range, which are typically accompanied by a noticeable shift in the music and visual effects that signal the escalation of the battle.

Second Phase Attack

To ensure temporary safety, players can utilize the surrounding maze as a viable tactic for cover. If the Relics mod is installed, players should focus on acquiring items like the Antidote Vessel, which can help mitigate the Poison debuff.

Rewards

Upon defeat, the Lunar Monstrosity drops a loot bag containing several key progression items. These may include Tangled Skulls, Trapped Souls, and Tenacious Vines.

Weapons such as the Moonring Bow and other unique, uncraftable gear may also appear. Additionally, players receive decorative trophies and sometimes obtain Smithing Templates, which are used for advanced crafting.

The Tangled Hatred can be captured and stored using the Hostile Neural Network, providing a reliable source of loot. However, this miniboss tends to be defeated quickly in the heat of battle, so it requires intentional effort to isolate and record it.

Additional Notes

The Cursed Garden continues to be filled with hostile mobs even after the boss has been defeated, which makes it less ideal for long-term use as a base.

However, because the drops are valuable, players might find it advantageous to repeat the encounter several times. By using data models, players can automate the process of acquiring loot, making it easier to craft multiple Chains of Souls for endgame objectives.
