Relics is a mod that introduces over 20 new items into Minecraft, offering additional functionality to players at all stages of the game. It’s also compatible with other mods, such as Artifacts, from which the Steadfast Spikes originates, adding over another 30 Relics.
Each Relic comes with a single ability or multiple, that can be leveled up and upgraded over time. You can learn about all the other available items in our Relics Mod Wiki.
Obtaining
Firmly anchors the Relic Bearer’s feet to any surface. It can be equipped in the Feet slot.

The Relic can be found in Subterranean Biomes, provided the biome contains key terms such as Cave, Cavern, Grotto, Hollow, Den, Chamber, Crypt, or Subterranean. This essentially means it can be found underground or inside caves, where they have an average spawn weight of 300.
Steadfast Spikes are also found in Mountainous Biomes, where the biome has terms like Mountain, Peak, Summit, Ridge, Alp, Highland, Hill, Cliff, or Height, indicating that generally high-altitude areas would contain the Steadfast Spikes. They also have a spawn weight of 300.
Lastly, and most likely, the spawn area of the Steadfast Spikes is in Mines, where they have the highest spawn weight of 500.
Relic Quality & Rerolling
When you pick up a Relic, it comes with a quality indicator that you can see by hovering over the portrait image or by looking at the circles underneath it. Each Relic is rated between 0 and 5, based on the quality of its individual abilities.
An ability’s stats can be rerolled, with each stat having a specified minimum and maximum value (refer to the abilities section below for details). To further increase the stats beyond these limits, you will need to use Upgrade Points. Rerolling costs 50 Minecraft Experience for each attempt. Additionally, each time the stats are rerolled, the Luck value will increase by one percent for every stat that hasn’t been successfully improved.
As Luck increases, the likelihood of obtaining better rerolled stats also rises. However, each percentage point of Luck will raise the reroll cost by an additional 5 Minecraft Experience points. For example, at 10% Luck, a reroll would cost 100 Minecraft Experience, while at 50% Luck, the cost would be 300 Minecraft Experience, and so on.
Usage
This Relic has two abilities. The first ability is Clinging Claws, which allows the Relic Bearer to cling onto walls and reduce fall damage massively, or completely negate it. The Second ability is Grip, where the Player has higher Grip on the floor, reducing the effects of slippery surfaces like Ice as well as reducing Knockback from attacks or otherwise.
The Steadfast Spikes Relic would be most sought after for its Clinging Claws ability, which is a unique ability, where the Relic Bearer has the ability to fall great distances slowly or at a rate that suits the Relic Bearer to avoid fall damage altogether while navigating difficult terrain.
Abilities
Two abilities are available for the Steadfast Spikes: Clinging Claws, and Grip. The Steadfast Spikes has a maximum level of 10. A total of 10 Upgrade Points can be obtained through leveling the Steadfast Spikes.
1Clinging Claws
When equipped in the feet slot, this Relic allows slow wall sliding, negating fall damage. Shows a Work-in-progress image despite being fully functional.
This Relic allows the Relic Bearer to cling to walls, reducing their fall speed and effectively allowing them to fall great distances as long as a wall is present. This is a passive ability that does require little input from the Player.

To activate it, the player must walk into the wall, and the ability will display an orange trail from the Relic to indicate it is in effect. If the player stops walking into the wall, the effect will stop, potentially allowing the player to fall to their death; therefore, it is essential to keep walking into the wall to maintain the grip.
Best use of the ability would be down mountain sides, or in caves where drops are frequent and complex to go further without dying from fall damage.
The Clinging Claws ability is an ability that is maxed out on pickup, and so it doesn’t require any upgrade levels, nor can it be upgraded further.
2Grip
When equipped in the feet slot, the Grip ability increases resistance to knockback and slippery blocks by X%. Shows a Work-in-progress image despite being fully functional.
This ability is Grip, where the Player has higher Grip on the floor, reducing the effects of slippery surfaces like Ice or Slime, as well as reducing Knockback from weapon enchantments other players have equipped, explosions, Arrows from bows, or hostile entities such as Iron Golems, Shulkers, Blazes, Wardens, or even the Ender Dragon’s attacks.
The Grip ability is passive and so requires no input from the player, and can massively reduce knockback at higher upgrade levels, allowing for much easier combat movement and combat range control as well as minimise the annoyance of traveling icy terrains.
Clinging Claws, and Grip costs 1 Upgrade Points per level, with a maximum level of 10.
Steadfast Grip Chances
VARIABLE | BASE VALUE | MAX VALUE |
|---|---|---|
X | 20 – 30% Grip | 75% Grip |
Experience Sources
Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend said points on upgrading abilities. The Steadfast Spikes offers three different ways to obtain Relic Experience.
The Steadfast Spikes are one of the only Relics to have more than two ways to gain Relic experience. The first way to gain Relic Experience is through the use of Surface Grip, where the Relic gains +1 Experience points for each knockback reduced by the Grip Ability.
Another way to gain Relic Experience is Slip resistance, where the Relic gains +1 experience points for every 3 seconds of sliding on blocks, horizontally or vertically. A quick way to gain experience would be to set up a tall tower of blocks and keep climbing it, falling down the tower while using the Clinging Claws ability.
Like many other Relics, the Steadfast Spikes makes use of Experience Spreading. Each time any Relic in the inventory gains experience, regardless of the method, the Steadfast Spikes also gains 25% of that experience.
Leveling
The Steadfast Spikes Relic has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points. The table below shows the cost of upgrading abilities.
Steadfast Spikes Ability Leveling
LEVEL | Minecraft XP | Total XP |
|---|---|---|
1 | 50 | 50 |
2 | 100 | 150 |
3 | 150 | 300 |
4 | 200 | 500 |
5 | 250 | 750 |
6 | 300 | 1050 |
7 | 350 | 1400 |
8 | 400 | 1800 |
9 | 450 | 2250 |
10 | 500 | 2750 |
To level an ability to level 10, a total of 2750 Minecraft Experience is required, equating to 45 Minecraft levels, as well as 10 Upgrade Points.
Config
To edit the configuration for an Artifact-compatible Relic, players must update the enabledExtendedConfigs: false option within relics.yaml in their Minecraft config folder, by changing the value to true.
After relaunching Minecraft, a rarcompat folder will be visible in the config folder. Inside here, look for and edit the steadfast_spikes.yaml file.
