Super Block World is a cute mod that aims to add a Mario Dimension, complete with new mobs, materials, unique function blocks, and minibosses. It is still in early stages, which may cause some confusion when navigating and progressing the mod.

This is one of many of our Mod Wikis, here at Minecraft Guides. If you're interested in finding out about more of Minecraft's Best Mods, then check out our dedicated section! We allow you to sort by Forge, Fabric, Minecraft Version and Genre!

Mod progression

To begin the mod, prepare moderately for a small boss fight, and optionally also get paintings for easy transportation back to the Overworld.

First, find a Brick Fortress in the Overworld. This is a castle-like structure that houses a mini-boss who is relatively easy to defeat. Usually found in plains or the desert of the Overworld.

Inside is the miniboss, Boom-Boom, who is based on Mario Lore, one of Bowser's henchmen in the Super Mario Series. He has two stages. The first stage is where he primarily uses melee attacks, such as punches or spins. After reaching low health, he starts flying, so it is advised to bring a ranged weapon.

On the roof of the Brick Fortress lies a chest, which contains unique items such as the Hammer, a throwable item as seen in Mario, which can both damage enemies and break blocks.

Once defeated, Boom-Boom drops a Power Star, which can be used (right-clicked on) on the painting in the back of the Brick Fortress, which then can act as a one-way portal to the Super Block World Dimension. The picture should be glowing purple.

Jumping into the picture will teleport the player to one of three biomes: Gritzy Desert, Mushroom Grasslands, or Subcon Hills. They are all connected in the Super Block World Dimension.

Gritzy Desert

Gritzy Desert is the harshest of the three, a vast, sandy, relatively flat wasteland with hardstone beneath and occasional geodes hiding Royalite ore. Octoombas prowl here alongside Shy Guys and vanilla desert mobs, making survival more challenging. It’s barren and dangerous, but the rare ores make the risk worthwhile.

Red Grass can only be found in this Biome, making it a valuable find. Red grass that can be broken to contain loot such as Throwable Bombs, throwable Turnips, and collectible coins.

Mushroom Grasslands

Mushroom Grasslands is the bright, classic starter biome of the Mushroom Kingdom. It’s full of giant mushroom trees. Shy Guys wander here, and Lumas gather near Moon Monoliths (looks like asteroids).

You’ll find plenty of Star Bits from Lumas, and Bronze Ore underground. It’s the safest biome and the best place to settle in first. Trees contain the Amanita Wood, used similarly to vanilla wood for a different hue of brown items, such as doors and boats.

Subcon Hills

Similar to Mushroom Grasslands, but more bumpy and rough, home to unique Mayoi Trees, Subcon Palms, and Toadstool Turf Blocks.

This biome features Mayoi Trees, resembling thin palm trees, that drop Mayoi Saplings, which can be transported to the Overworld, or Subcon Palm, which serves as Compost.

Mobs

Mobs introduced in this mod are direct references to older Mario titles, such as Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy.

Shy Guys

Common hostiles found throughout the Mushroom Kingdom biomes. They attack players unless you’re wearing a Shy Guy Mask (a rare drop).

On death, they drop Subcon Threads (used in crafting Warp Paintings and Warp Links).

Luna

Small star-shaped creatures that spawn around Moon Monoliths, which can spawn in two variations: Normal or Hungry. Normal Lumas are friendly, small yellow stars that will attack hostile mobs by throwing Star Bits at them.

Hungry Lumas are larger creatures, with numbers above their heads. They can be fed Star Bits.

Once satisfied, they transform into a Launch Star that can fling the player high into the sky. Warning: Fall damage can be fatal, so be prepared. This can be used as a trap to kill mobs or other players.

Octoombas

Hostile desert-dwelling mobs within the Gritzy Desert biome. They resemble Goombas with tentacle-like features and attack by spitting projectiles.

Defeating them yields multiple Star Bits. This is the primary way to obtain Star bits.

Maw-Ray

Aquatic, eel-like mob. It is hostile and lunges at the player, often guarding underwater areas in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Defeating one can reward Star Bits.

Items

Base Components:

Bronze Ore, a common crafting component in many items introduced in the Mod, can be smelted down into Bronze Ingots and used in crafting. This can be found underground within the Super Block World.

Star Bits, a currency often used in Mario games, are gathered from Star Clusters on the floor, defeating Mobs such as Shy Guys, Octoombas, or feeding a Hungry Luma.

Rainbow Tiles, which are blocks that continuously change color, can be very visually pleasing. It can be crafted with 4 differently colored Star Bits.

Functional Blocks:

Pipes - you can take these from the biomes by simply using a pickaxe, or craft using Bronze Ingots, an Ender Pearl, and a specific item for the color. For example, to make a Green Warp Pipe, you'd use Lime Dye.

Warp Links - Used to connect entrances of pipes, can be crafted with 2 Yellow Star bits and a Subcon Thread. As this is currently in development, this only works on upright pipes for the time being. You know two pipes are connected as they show ender particles.

Flags - These are two separate items. The top section, which holds the flag, can be crafted using two Bronze Ingots and a Wool Block. It can be rotated if interacted with. The body requires 3 Bronze Ingots and can be used to climb up and down with ease.

Warp painting - crafted with 7 Subcon Threads, and a painting, can act as a portal to the other dimension if activated with a gold star. If used in the Mario Biomes, it will transport the player back to the Overworld; if used in the Overworld, it will transport the player to the Mario Biomes.

Trampoline Blocks can create great heights quickly and are crafted using 4 Mushroom Blocks and 2 Sticks.

Pull Blocks, currently used for decoration, can be crafted from 5 Blue Star Bits and 4 Iron Ingots.

Additional Items

Coins, as seen in Mario, are currently only a collectible with no way of gathering them through gameplay. Can be obtained in Creative.

Star Coins, similarly to the Coins, cannot be found in the Mario Super Block Biomes, but can be crafted with 9 Coins.

Conclusion

While the Mod has excellent potential, it is currently in development and so will be a work in progress; as such, some functions may not work as intended. The dimensions could become more unique, and more bosses could be had.

This Mod adds a lot of Mario-themed items, enough to make a home base very unique, and adds functional blocks useful for world navigation.
