Potion of Repellence

Estimated reading: 2 minutes

The Potion of Repellence is a harmful potion effect introduced in the Upgrade Aquatic mod for Minecraft. It mimics the natural defense mechanism of Lionfish, allowing players to poison other entities upon contact.

This potion offers a creative method to inflict poison damage during close-quarters combat or in trap setups.

Brewing the Potion of Repellence

To brew a Potion of Repellence, players must first acquire raw Lionfish, which are dropped by Lionfish mobs found in Warm-Ocean biomes. They’re also added to the loot tables of Guardians and Elder Guardians.

Potion of Repellence Recipe

Brewing Steps:

  1. Brew an Awkward Potion using Nether Wart and a Water Bottle.
  2. Add Raw Lionfish to the Awkward Potion to obtain the Potion of Repellence.

Standard potion modifiers apply. Gunpowder creates a Splash Potion of Repellence, while Dragon’s Breath produces a Lingering Potion. Adding Glowstone Dust can enhance the effect, resulting in a Potion of Repellence II.

Effects and Mechanics

When under the influence of a Potion of Repellence, the player will inflict Poison II for three seconds to any mob they physically contact. This mimics the behavior of the lionfish mob, which poisons other mobs on contact.

This status effect is particularly effective in close-range combat scenarios or confined spaces where contact is likely. It affects most non-undead mobs and can be a helpful deterrent against swarming enemies.

The level II version of this potion amplifies the poison effect, increasing both its duration and its damage intensity.

Combat Applications

The Potion of Repellence is ideal for defensive and ambush strategies. In melee encounters, particularly against fast or numerous mobs, it allows players to inflict passive damage simply by remaining close to their targets.

It is also effective in PvP scenarios within modded servers where physical proximity is unavoidable. Using the splash or lingering variants in mob farms or trap corridors can enhance area denial strategies.

The potion can be countered or reversed by brewing it with a Fermented Spider Eye, which transforms it into the Potion of Vibing, a positive effect that heals mobs on contact.
