Roller Skates
The
Roller Skates are one of over 30 unique Relics added by the Relics mod for Minecraft. Each Relic gives you powerful abilities that you can level up and customize, adding new gameplay options whether you’re just starting out or deep into the endgame.
Relics use Curios slots – special equipment slots added by the Curios mod that let you wear accessories alongside your regular armor. You can find Relics in loot
Chests throughout the world, with each one appearing in specific biomes and structures based on its theme. Once you find a Relic, you can upgrade it using experience to unlock stronger abilities and better stats.
This guide covers everything you need to know about the Roller Skates, including how to obtain them, their abilities, leveling costs, and configuration options. For information on other items from this mod, visit our Relics Mod Wiki.
Obtaining
The Roller Skates allow you to move at incredible speeds, opening new ways to travel the world. This Relic is worn on the Feet.

The Roller Skates can be found in any chest in the Overworld. This includes Villages, Mineshafts, Dungeons, Temples, and any other structure with loot chests. They’re one of the most accessible Relics to find since they aren’t restricted to specific biomes or structures. There is a 2.5% chance for this Relic to appear in each eligible chest.
Relic Quality & Rerolling
Every Relic you find has a quality rating between 0 and 5 stars, shown by the circles beneath its portrait. This rating reflects how good the starting stats rolled when the Relic was generated – higher quality means better initial values.
Each stat on a Relic has a minimum and maximum possible value. When you first obtain a Relic, its stats are randomly rolled within this range. If you’re unhappy with the roll, you can reroll the stats by spending 50 Minecraft Experience. This gives you a chance at better values, though results are still random.
Every time you reroll and a stat doesn’t improve, your Luck percentage increases by one. Higher Luck improves your odds of rolling better stats on future attempts. However, each point of Luck also adds 5 Experience to the reroll cost. At 10% Luck the cost rises to 100 Experience, and at 50% Luck it reaches 300 Experience.
To push stats beyond their maximum base values, you’ll need to spend Upgrade Points earned from leveling the Relic. Rerolling only affects the base stat range – upgrades are applied on top of whatever values you roll.
Usage
The Roller Skates transform how you traverse the world by letting you build up momentum while sprinting. As long as you keep moving without sneaking, swimming, or walking in lava, you’ll gradually accelerate until you hit your maximum speed. The speed boost stacks per second of continuous movement, making straight-line travel incredibly fast.
Your speed increases each second up to a cap determined by the Duration stat. At max level, you can build speed for up to 21 seconds before hitting the ceiling. The Speed stat determines how much faster you get per second – at max level, each second adds 13% movement speed. After 21 seconds of continuous sprinting, you’ll be moving at roughly 2.7x normal speed.
There’s a catch: wearing the Roller Skates makes all blocks feel slippery, like you’re skating on
ice. This means you’ll slide when stopping and have wider turning arcs at high speeds. Navigating tight spaces or stopping near cliff edges requires practice. The skates also grant +0.6 step height while accelerating, letting you glide over single-block obstacles without jumping.
Compared to Speed potions, the Roller Skates offer higher top speeds but require build-up time and come with the slippery movement tradeoff. They’re best for long-distance overworld travel on relatively flat terrain. For exploring caves or fighting mobs, the reduced control can be a liability.
Abilities
The Roller Skates have 1 ability: Acceleration. With a maximum Relic level of 10, you can earn up to 10 Upgrade Points to invest in this ability.
Acceleration is available immediately at level 0, letting you start using the Relic’s speed boost right away.
Acceleration

Increases movement speed by X% per second of movement. The modifier stops increasing if the movement duration exceeds Y seconds. All blocks also become slippery for the wearer.
Acceleration is the Roller Skates’ only ability, but it’s a powerful one. Every second you sprint adds a percentage-based speed boost that stacks until you hit the duration cap. The speed multiplies with your base movement speed, so any other speed bonuses you have will be amplified. When you stop sprinting, your accumulated speed gradually decays rather than vanishing instantly.
Both stats are worth upgrading evenly. Speed determines your acceleration rate and final top speed, while Duration sets how long you can keep building momentum. A balanced approach gives the best results – you want to hit high speeds, but you also want enough time to reach them. The slippery effect applies regardless of ability level, so there’s no way to disable it.
Acceleration unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 1 Upgrade Point(s) per level, with a maximum ability level of 10.

Experience Sources
Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend those points on upgrading abilities. The Roller Skates offer 1 way to earn Relic Experience.
You gain +1 Relic Experience for each second of continuous sprinting with the Acceleration ability active. Since you’ll naturally be sprinting while using the skates to travel, experience accumulates passively just by wearing them during exploration.
Like all Relics, the Roller Skates benefit from Experience Spreading. Whenever any equipped Relic gains experience, 25% of that amount is shared with all other Relics in your inventory.
Experience Spreading is a passive mechanic that helps level up Relics you aren’t actively using. If you gain 100 Relic Experience on one item, every other Relic in your inventory receives 25 bonus experience. This makes it worthwhile to carry multiple Relics even before you can use them all.
Leveling
The Roller Skates have a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points total. Each level requires progressively more Minecraft Experience, as shown in the table below.
XP Cost
Total XP
Reaching level 10 requires a total of 10,000 Minecraft Experience, equivalent to approximately 75 player levels.
Alternate points between Speed and Duration for balanced progression. Early levels of Speed give you noticeable acceleration improvements, while Duration lets you maintain high speeds longer. Around level 5-6, you’ll really start feeling the difference in travel speed. Don’t neglect Duration – having a high speed stat doesn’t help if you cap out before reaching top velocity.

Alternatives: If you prefer speed without the slippery movement, consider the
Running Shoes from the Artifacts compatibility addon. They provide a simpler flat speed bonus without the momentum-building mechanic. The
Ice Skates are another feet slot option that specifically enhances movement on ice blocks rather than all surfaces.
Config
Server operators and modpack creators can customize the Roller Skates through configuration files. To enable per-Relic configuration, first set enabledExtendedConfigs: true in the main relics.yaml file located in your Minecraft config folder.
After restarting the game, a Relics folder will appear in the config directory. The Roller Skates can be configured by editing roller_skates.yaml.
