Lich Crown

Estimated reading: 18 minutes

The Lich Crown is a Relic added by Reliquified Twilight Forest, an addon that brings the Relics mod’s leveling and ability system to Twilight Forest-themed items. This legendary crown once belonged to the Twilight Lich himself, and can be socketed with up to 10 magical gems to unlock a vast array of powerful abilities.

Relics use Curios slots – special equipment slots added by the Curios mod that let you wear accessories alongside your regular armor. You can find Relics in loot chests throughout the world, with each one appearing in specific structures based on its theme. Once you find a Relic, you can upgrade it using experience to unlock stronger abilities and better stats.

This guide covers everything you need to know about the Lich Crown, including how to obtain it, its abilities, leveling costs, and configuration options. For information on other items from this mod, visit our Relics Mod Wiki.

Obtaining

The crown of the Twilight Forest’s very own king – the Lich. A symbol of his power and dominance. Legend has it that the true potential of this relic can only be unlocked by uniting all ten gems… This Relic is worn on the Head.

Unlike most Relics, the Lich Crown is not found in loot chests. Instead, you must defeat the Twilight Lich boss to have a chance at obtaining it. When the Lich dies, there is a 33% chance it will drop the crown. The Twilight Lich can be found atop the Lich Tower, a massive structure in the Twilight Forest dimension that requires completing the Naga to access.

Relic Quality & Rerolling

Every Relic you find has a quality rating between 0 and 5 stars, shown by the circles beneath its portrait. This rating reflects how good the starting stats rolled when the Relic was generated – higher quality means better initial values.

Each stat on a Relic has a minimum and maximum possible value. When you first obtain a Relic, its stats are randomly rolled within this range. If you’re unhappy with the roll, you can reroll the stats by spending 5 Minecraft Experience. This gives you a chance at better values, though results are still random.

Every time you reroll and a stat doesn’t improve, your Luck percentage increases by one. Higher Luck improves your odds of rolling better stats on future attempts. However, each point of Luck also adds 5 Experience to the reroll cost. At 10% Luck the cost rises to 55 Experience, and at 50% Luck it reaches 255 Experience.

To push stats beyond their maximum base values, you’ll need to spend Upgrade Points earned from leveling the Relic. Rerolling only affects the base stat range – upgrades are applied on top of whatever values you roll.

Usage

The Lich Crown operates fundamentally differently from other Relics. Instead of having abilities you unlock through leveling alone, most of its powers come from gems you socket into the crown. You can hold up to 6-10 gems, depending on your initial stat roll, with each unique gem unlocking a new ability and duplicate gems increasing that ability’s level.

To insert a gem, simply right-click the crown while holding the gem in your inventory. The gem will slot into one of the available positions. To remove gems, make sure your cursor is empty and right-click the crown – this will return all gems to your inventory. The four primary gems (Shielding, Absorption, Necromancy, and Twilight) drop from the Lich boss alongside the crown, replacing the scepters he would normally drop.

The Lich Crown displays its socketed gems and grants you the Lich’s own powers.

The crown comes with one passive ability built-in: Bone Pact makes all skeletons friendly toward you. This effect is always active while wearing the crown. For the other abilities, you need to socket the corresponding gem. Collecting all 10 unique gems unlocks the ultimate ability – Twilight Sovereign – which grants you complete immortality within the Twilight Forest dimension.

What makes the Lich Crown special is its incredible versatility. You can customize your build based on which gems you’ve found and how you distribute duplicates. A defensive build might stack Shielding Gems for more protective shields, while an aggressive build could focus on Frenzy Gems for escalating damage. The crown transforms you from a mere adventurer into something resembling the Lich himself.

Abilities

The Lich Crown has 13 abilities: Soulbound Gems, Bone Pact, Fortification, Will to Live, Twilight Touch, Risen Servants, Frostbite, Mirror Leech, Vendetta, Heat Concentration, Ethereal Transformation, Frenzy, and Twilight Sovereign. With a maximum Relic level of 10, you can earn up to 10 Upgrade Points to distribute across these abilities.

Soulbound Gems and Bone Pact are available immediately when you equip the crown. The other abilities require socketing the corresponding gem: Fortification requires a Shielding Gem, Will to Live requires an Absorption Gem, Twilight Touch requires a Twilight Gem, Risen Servants requires a Necromancy Gem, Frostbite requires a Frost Gem, Mirror Leech requires a Carminite Gem, Vendetta requires a Vengeful Gem, Heat Concentration requires a Fire Gem, Ethereal Transformation requires an Ether Gem, and Frenzy requires a Frenzy Gem. Twilight Sovereign only unlocks when all 10 unique gems are socketed.

1

Soulbound Gems

Allows the crown to be inlaid with X special gems. Each unique gem unlocks a new ability, while additional gems of the same type increase the level of the corresponding ability. To insert a gem into the crown, right-click it while holding it in your inventory. To remove a gem, ensure your cursor is empty and right-click the crown.

This core ability determines how many gems you can socket at once. A higher roll means more slots available from the start, allowing you to activate more abilities or level existing ones higher. With 10 slots, you could have all 10 unique gems socketed, or focus on fewer abilities with more duplicates for higher levels.

The number of slots is determined by your initial quality roll and cannot be upgraded further. This makes the initial roll particularly important for the Lich Crown – a 10-slot crown is significantly more powerful than a 6-slot one, since you can reach Twilight Sovereign while still having room for duplicate gems.

Soulbound Gems unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 0 Upgrade Point(s) per level, with a maximum ability level of 0.

Bone Pact

All skeletons become friendly towards the player.

Bone Pact is a passive ability that’s always active while wearing the crown – no gem required. All skeleton-type enemies will ignore you completely, treating you as a fellow undead. This includes regular Skeletons, Strays, Wither Skeletons, and skeleton variants from other mods.

This makes exploring the Nether significantly safer and allows you to focus on more dangerous threats. In the Twilight Forest, you’ll encounter various skeleton enemies in dungeons that will simply stand aside while you pass. Note that this doesn’t make skeletons fight FOR you – they’re just neutral toward you.

Bone Pact unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 0 Upgrade Point(s) per level, with a maximum ability level of 0.

3

Fortification

Every Y seconds, creates a shield around the player that completely blocks most directed attacks. The number of active shields cannot exceed X at a time.

Fortification creates protective shields that orbit around you, similar to the defensive magic the Twilight Lich uses in his boss fight. Each shield completely blocks one incoming attack before breaking. Shields regenerate over time, with the cooldown between shield generation determined by your stats.

At base stats, you can maintain 2-5 shields with a new one generating every 5-8 seconds. With maximum upgrades from additional Shielding Gems, you can have up to 10 shields and generate them every 3 seconds. Stacking shields makes you incredibly resilient against sustained attacks.

Fortification unlocks when a Shielding Gem is socketed and costs 1 gem per ability level. Shielding Gems drop from the Twilight Lich, replacing his Fortification Scepter.

Will to Live

When the player’s health falls below 20%, for 5 seconds, drains X% of their max health from all targets within Y blocks. Afterward, it enters a cooldown of Z seconds.

Will to Live is an emergency lifesteal ability that activates automatically when you’re near death. When your health drops below 20% (4 hearts), you begin draining life from all enemies within range for 5 seconds. The heal amount is based on a percentage of your max health, not the target’s.

At base stats, you drain 8-12% max health from targets within 3-5 blocks, with a 40-50 second cooldown afterward. With maximum upgrades, you can drain 22% per tick from targets up to 10 blocks away, with only a 15-second cooldown. Against groups of enemies, this can heal you to full almost instantly when it triggers.

Will to Live unlocks when an Absorption Gem is socketed and costs 1 gem per ability level. Absorption Gems drop from the Twilight Lich, replacing his Lifedrain Scepter.

Twilight Touch

When looking at a target and pressing LMB, launches a twilight projectile moving at approximately Y blocks per second, dealing X damage. Does not work if the target is within melee range.

Twilight Touch gives you the Lich’s signature ranged attack – a purple bolt of twilight magic. Simply look at a target beyond melee range and left-click to launch a projectile. The bolt travels quickly and deals magical damage on impact.

At base stats, the bolt deals 2-4 damage and travels at 50-100 blocks per second. With maximum upgrades, damage increases to 14 and speed to 150 blocks per second. The speed increase makes it nearly impossible for targets to dodge at range. This ability provides excellent ranged combat options for melee-focused players.

Risen Servants

Every Z seconds, spawns a mini-zombie that fights for the player, dealing Y damage to targets. The total number of mini-zombies cannot exceed X.

Risen Servants summons loyal zombie minions to fight alongside you, similar to the Lich’s undead summons. The zombies spawn automatically over time and will attack any hostile creature near you. They’re smaller than normal zombies but surprisingly effective in combat.

At base stats, you can maintain 1-2 zombies that deal 4-6 damage, spawning every 30-40 seconds. With maximum upgrades, you can have up to 7 zombies dealing 16 damage each, spawning every 12 seconds. A small army of loyal undead can overwhelm most enemies while you sit back and watch.

Frostbite

Applies a stacking frostbite effect for X seconds on attack. Once the effect exceeds 7 seconds, the target takes 1 damage through armor every 2 seconds until the effect ends.

Frostbite adds freezing damage to your attacks. Each hit applies frozen ticks that slow targets and, once accumulated past 7 seconds worth of stacking, begins dealing armor-piercing damage. The effect stacks, so rapid attacks quickly push targets past the damage threshold.

At base stats, each hit applies 1-3 seconds of freezing. With maximum upgrades, you apply 6 seconds per hit. A few quick attacks can freeze enemies solid, and the continuous damage adds up quickly against tanky targets with high armor.

Mirror Leech

Any attack on the player has a X% chance to be reflected back to the attacker, healing the player for the amount of damage dealt.

Mirror Leech gives you a chance to reflect damage back at attackers while simultaneously healing you. When triggered, you take no damage from the attack – instead, the attacker takes the damage and you heal for that amount. It’s both defensive and offensive in one.

At base stats, you have a 5-15% chance to reflect attacks. With maximum upgrades from additional Carminite Gems, this increases to 40%. Against fast-attacking enemies or swarms, you’ll frequently reflect damage and stay topped up on health.

Vendetta

Attacking a target that damaged the player in the last X seconds increases damage by Y%.

Vendetta rewards you for striking back at enemies that hurt you. When an enemy damages you, a window opens where your attacks against that specific enemy deal bonus damage. This encourages aggressive counterattacks rather than running away.

At base stats, you have 3-5 seconds to counterattack with a 10-25% damage bonus. With maximum upgrades, the window extends to 8 seconds and the bonus reaches 50%. Getting hit actually becomes advantageous when you can immediately retaliate for massive damage.

Heat Concentration

Increases damage dealt by X% for every 0.1 unit of biome temperature where the player is located.

Heat Concentration provides damage bonuses based on the temperature of your current biome. Hotter biomes like deserts and the Nether grant larger bonuses, while cold biomes provide minimal benefit. The bonus only applies when temperature is above 0.5 units.

At base stats, you gain 0.5-1% damage per 0.1 temperature unit above the threshold. With maximum upgrades, this increases to 3% per unit. In a hot biome like the Nether (temperature ~2.0), you could gain up to 45% bonus damage. This makes the gem particularly powerful for Nether exploration.

Ethereal Transformation

Any projectile aimed at the player passes through without causing harm. After X deflections, the ability goes on cooldown for Y seconds.

Ethereal Transformation makes you partially incorporeal, allowing projectiles to pass harmlessly through your body. Arrows, fireballs, Ghast blasts, and other ranged attacks simply phase through you as if you weren’t there. After blocking a certain number of projectiles, the ability needs time to recharge.

At base stats, you can block 1-3 projectiles before a 20-30 second cooldown. With maximum upgrades, you can block up to 8 projectiles with only a 2-second cooldown. This makes you nearly immune to ranged attacks, which is incredibly powerful against Skeletons, Blazes, and other projectile-heavy enemies.

Frenzy

Attacking different targets consecutively increases damage by X% per hit. Damaging a previously attacked target or not attacking for more than 5 seconds resets the bonus. Killing a target while the effect is active resets the target list without losing the accumulated bonus.

Frenzy rewards you for fighting multiple enemies at once. Each time you hit a new target, your damage bonus increases. However, if you hit the same target twice or stop attacking for 5 seconds, the bonus resets. Killing a target clears it from the list, letting you hit it again as a “new” target.

At base stats, each new target adds 5-15% damage. With maximum upgrades, you gain 40% per new target. Against a swarm of enemies, your damage can escalate rapidly – after hitting 5 different targets, you’re dealing 200% bonus damage. This makes the crown devastating in group fights.

Twilight Sovereign

Grants full immortality within the boundaries of the Twilight Forest.

Twilight Sovereign is the ultimate ability, only unlocking when you have all 10 unique gems socketed into the crown. Once active, you become completely immortal while inside the Twilight Forest dimension. You cannot die from any source – fall damage, lava, mob attacks, void damage, anything.

This represents becoming the true ruler of the Twilight Forest, surpassing even the Lich himself. However, collecting all 10 gems requires significant effort – you’ll need to farm the Lich multiple times and find the rarer gems from other sources. The immortality only works in the Twilight Forest, so you’ll still need to be careful in other dimensions.

Twilight Sovereign unlocks when all 10 unique gems are socketed and has no ability levels.

Gems Overview

The Lich Crown uses 10 different gem types, each unlocking a specific ability. The four primary gems drop from the Twilight Lich boss, replacing the scepters he would normally drop. The remaining six gems drop from other Twilight Forest bosses, each with a 33% chance.

Each gem socketed into the crown increases the corresponding ability’s level by 1. If you have 3 Shielding Gems socketed, for example, your Fortification ability would be at level 3. This means you can choose to spread gems across many abilities for versatility, or focus on fewer abilities for maximum power in specific areas.

To unlock Twilight Sovereign, you’ll need to defeat 7 different Twilight Forest bosses. The Lich guarantees all four of his gems (replacing his scepter drops), while each other boss has a 33% chance to drop their respective gem. This makes collecting all 10 a significant achievement that requires progressing through the dimension’s full boss progression.

Experience Sources

Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend those points on upgrading abilities. The Lich Crown offers 6 different ways to earn Relic Experience, based on which gems you have socketed.

The Fortification ability grants +1 Relic Experience each time a protective shield is created around you.

The Will to Live ability grants +1 Relic Experience for every 0.5 seconds of active healing during its lifedrain effect.

The Twilight Touch ability grants +1 Relic Experience each time your twilight bolt hits a target.

The Risen Servants ability grants +1 Relic Experience each time a zombie minion is spawned.

The Frostbite ability grants +1 Relic Experience each time the freezing effect is applied to a target.

Other gem abilities (Mirror Leech, Vendetta, Heat Concentration, Ethereal Transformation, and Frenzy) also grant +1 Relic Experience when their effects trigger.

Like all Relics, the Lich Crown benefits from Experience Spreading. Whenever any equipped Relic gains experience, 25% of that amount is shared with all other Relics in your inventory.

Experience Spreading

Experience Spreading is a passive mechanic that helps level up Relics you aren’t actively using. If you gain 100 Relic Experience on one item, every other Relic in your inventory receives 25 bonus experience. This makes it worthwhile to carry multiple Relics even before you can use them all.

Leveling Strategy

The Lich Crown’s upgrade points increase your overall gem slot capacity and power. Since ability levels are determined by gem count rather than upgrade points, focus on collecting more gems and killing the Lich repeatedly. Prioritize getting one of each gem type first to unlock all abilities, then collect duplicates of your favorites. If you’re aiming for Twilight Sovereign, you’ll need exactly 10 unique gems – but this requires a crown with at least 10 slots from the initial roll.

Related Relics

The Lich Crown occupies the Head slot and offers unparalleled versatility through its gem system. For players seeking similar defensive options without the complexity, the Chromatic Cloak provides buff-based protection through wool collection, while the Steel Cape offers straightforward damage reduction.

If you enjoy summoning minions, the Risen Servants ability pairs thematically with other Twilight Forest relics. The crown’s gem-based system is unique among all Relics, making it one of the most customizable and powerful items in the Reliquified Twilight Forest addon.

Config

Server operators and modpack creators can customize the Lich Crown through configuration files. To enable per-Relic configuration, first set enabledExtendedConfigs: true in the main relics.yaml file located in your Minecraft config folder.

After restarting the game, a Relics folder will appear in the config directory. The Lich Crown can be configured by editing lich_crown.yaml.
