Ice Breaker
The
Ice Breaker is one of over 30 unique Relics added by the Relics mod for Minecraft. Each Relic gives you powerful abilities that you can level up and customize, adding new gameplay options whether you’re just starting out or deep into the endgame.
Relics use Curios slots – special equipment slots added by the Curios mod that let you wear accessories alongside your regular armor. You can find Relics in loot
chests throughout the world, with each one appearing in specific biomes and structures based on its theme. Once you find a Relic, you can upgrade it using experience to unlock stronger abilities and better stats.
This guide covers everything you need to know about the Ice Breaker, including how to obtain it, its abilities, leveling costs, and configuration options. For information on other items from this mod, visit our Relics Mod Wiki.
Obtaining
The Ice Breaker transforms you into a ground-pounding powerhouse with enhanced stability on slippery surfaces and a devastating shockwave attack triggered from high falls. This Relic is worn on the Feet.

The Ice Breaker can be found in chests within cold and mountainous biomes. This includes Taiga and Pine forests, frozen biomes like Snowy Tundra and Ice Spikes, and any mountainous terrain such as Stony Peaks, Jagged Peaks, and Frozen Peaks. There is a 2.5% chance for this Relic to appear in each eligible chest.
Relic Quality & Rerolling
Every Relic you find has a quality rating between 0 and 5 stars, shown by the circles beneath its portrait. This rating reflects how good the starting stats rolled when the Relic was generated – higher quality means better initial values.
Each stat on a Relic has a minimum and maximum possible value. When you first obtain a Relic, its stats are randomly rolled within this range. If you’re unhappy with the roll, you can reroll the stats by spending 33 Minecraft Experience. This gives you a chance at better values, though results are still random.
Every time you reroll and a stat doesn’t improve, your Luck percentage increases by one. Higher Luck improves your odds of rolling better stats on future attempts. However, each point of Luck also adds 5 Experience to the reroll cost. At 10% Luck the cost rises to 83 Experience, and at 50% Luck it reaches 283 Experience.
To push stats beyond their maximum base values, you’ll need to spend Upgrade Points earned from leveling the Relic. Rerolling only affects the base stat range – upgrades are applied on top of whatever values you roll.
Usage
The Ice Breaker provides two distinct benefits: passive stability improvements and an active ground-slam attack. The passive Sustainability ability gives you knockback resistance, increases your fall speed, and most notably eliminates the annoying sliding effect on ice blocks – you’ll walk on frozen lakes as confidently as on
dirt.
The real excitement comes from the Earthquake ability. While falling from any height, activate the ability to begin charging your shockwave. You’ll accelerate downward faster than normal, building momentum for impact. When you land, a devastating shockwave erupts outward, damaging and knocking back all nearby enemies. The higher you fall, the larger and more powerful the shockwave – up to your stat caps.

The beauty of Earthquake is that it completely negates fall damage while active, turning dangerous drops into offensive opportunities. Jump off a cliff, activate the ability mid-air, and slam into a group of enemies below for massive area damage. The shockwave radius scales with your fall distance (1 block radius per 4 blocks fallen, up to your size cap), so higher drops mean bigger explosions.
Unlike vanilla Feather Falling which just reduces fall damage, the Ice Breaker lets you weaponize gravity itself. Combined with the anti-slip effect, this is the ideal relic for mountainous exploration and vertical combat. The satisfying boom when you land on a crowd of mobs makes every tall structure an opportunity.
Abilities
The Ice Breaker has 2 abilities: Sustainability and Earthquake. With a maximum Relic level of 10, you can earn up to 10 Upgrade Points to distribute across these abilities.
Both Sustainability and Earthquake are available immediately when you equip the Ice Breaker, letting you access the full kit from the start.
Sustainability

Increases fall speed, boosts knockback resistance by X%, and removes sliding on blocks.
Sustainability is a passive ability that’s always active while wearing the Ice Breaker. The knockback resistance helps you stand your ground in combat, reducing how far enemies can push you when they hit. More uniquely, this ability completely removes the slippery physics on ice and
packed ice blocks – you’ll have full traction on frozen surfaces as if they were regular ground.
At base stats, you gain 25-50% knockback resistance. At maximum upgrade, this reaches a full 100% knockback resistance, making you completely immovable by knockback effects. This is invaluable against enemies like
Iron Golems,
Ravagers, or anything with high knockback. The anti-slip effect works regardless of upgrade level, so even a fresh Ice Breaker gives you perfect ice control.
Sustainability unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 1 Upgrade Point(s) per level, with a maximum ability level of 10.

Earthquake

Prolonged use of the ability while falling, up until landing, will create a shockwave with a radius of X blocks, dealing up to Y damage and knocking back nearby targets. However, the power of the shockwave also depends on the distance the wearer has fallen.
Earthquake is an active ability that must be triggered while you’re in free fall (at least 3 blocks above ground). Once activated, you begin accelerating downward at 107.5% of your normal fall speed, and your fall damage is completely negated. When you land, a shockwave entity spawns at your location, expanding outward to damage and knockback all enemies in range.
The shockwave radius scales with fall distance at a rate of 1 block per 4 blocks fallen, capped at your Size stat. At base stats, the maximum radius is 2.5-5.0 blocks; at max upgrade, this grows to a massive 20-block radius. Damage similarly starts at 2.5-5.0 and can reach 17.5 at max level. For best results, find the highest drop possible – a 80+ block fall will max out a fully upgraded shockwave for devastating area damage.
Earthquake unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 1 Upgrade Point(s) per level, with a maximum ability level of 10.

Experience Sources
Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend those points on upgrading abilities. The Ice Breaker offers 1 different way to earn Relic Experience.
You earn Relic Experience by triggering the Earthquake ability. For every 3 blocks you fall before landing with the shockwave, you gain +1 Relic Experience, up to a maximum of 10 XP per landing. This means a 30-block fall grants the full 10 XP reward. Seek out tall structures and cliffs to maximize your XP gains while clearing out enemies below.
Like all Relics, the Ice Breaker benefits from Experience Spreading. Whenever any equipped Relic gains experience, 25% of that amount is shared with all other Relics in your inventory.
Experience Spreading is a passive mechanic that helps level up Relics you aren’t actively using. If you gain 100 Relic Experience on one item, every other Relic in your inventory receives 25 bonus experience. This makes it worthwhile to carry multiple Relics even before you can use them all.
Leveling
The Ice Breaker has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points total. Each level requires progressively more Minecraft Experience, as shown in the table below.
XP Cost
Total XP
Reaching level 10 requires a total of 10,000 Minecraft Experience, equivalent to approximately 47 player levels.
Focus on Earthquake first – the Size stat is crucial for hitting more enemies per shockwave, and the Damage stat scales your kill potential. Get Size to at least 10 blocks (about 5 points) before investing elsewhere. Sustainability’s knockback resistance is nice quality-of-life but not essential early on since the anti-slip effect works at any level. Only max Sustainability once Earthquake feels powerful enough for your needs.

Config
Server operators and modpack creators can customize the Ice Breaker through configuration files. To enable per-Relic configuration, first set enabledExtendedConfigs: true in the main relics.yaml file located in your Minecraft config folder.
After restarting the game, a Relics folder will appear in the config directory. The Ice Breaker can be configured by editing ice_breaker.yaml.
