Base Relics

Elytra Booster

Estimated reading: 9 minutes

The Elytra Booster is one of over 30 unique Relics added by the Relics mod for Minecraft. Each Relic gives you powerful abilities that you can level up and customize, adding new gameplay options whether you’re just starting out or deep into the endgame.

Relics use Curios slots – special equipment slots added by the Curios mod that let you wear accessories alongside your regular armor. You can find Relics in loot Chests throughout the world, with each one appearing in specific biomes and structures based on its theme. Once you find a Relic, you can upgrade it using experience to unlock stronger abilities and better stats.

This guide covers everything you need to know about the Elytra Booster, including how to obtain it, its abilities, leveling costs, and configuration options. For information on other items from this mod, visit our Relics Mod Wiki.

Obtaining

The Elytra Booster enhances your Elytra flight by allowing it to gradually increase your speed using fuel from an internal buffer – no more crafting endless Firework Rockets. This Relic is equipped in the Back slot.

The Elytra Booster can be found in chests within End-related structures. It spawns in End Cities and End Ships in The End dimension, as well as Strongholds in the Overworld. There is a 2.5% chance for this Relic to appear in each eligible chest.

Relic Quality & Rerolling

Every Relic you find has a quality rating between 0 and 5 stars, shown by the circles beneath its portrait. This rating reflects how good the starting stats rolled when the Relic was generated – higher quality means better initial values.

Each stat on a Relic has a minimum and maximum possible value. When you first obtain a Relic, its stats are randomly rolled within this range. If you’re unhappy with the roll, you can reroll the stats by spending 50 Minecraft Experience. This gives you a chance at better values, though results are still random.

Every time you reroll and a stat doesn’t improve, your Luck percentage increases by one. Higher Luck improves your odds of rolling better stats on future attempts. However, each point of Luck also adds 5 Experience to the reroll cost. At 10% Luck the cost rises to 100 Experience, and at 50% Luck it reaches 300 Experience.

To push stats beyond their maximum base values, you’ll need to spend Upgrade Points earned from leveling the Relic. Rerolling only affects the base stat range – upgrades are applied on top of whatever values you roll.

Usage

To use the Elytra Booster, you first need to load it with fuel. Pick up any burnable item (like Coal, Charcoal, or Blaze Rods) and click it directly onto the Elytra Booster in your inventory. The fuel gets consumed and added to the Relic’s internal buffer – better fuels add more charge. Then, while flying with an Elytra, hold Left ALT and activate the Acceleration ability to start boosting.

Unlike Firework Rockets that give you a quick burst of speed, the Elytra Booster provides sustained acceleration that builds up over time. When you first activate it, you’ll get a gentle push forward. Keep holding the ability, and your speed gradually increases until you hit maximum velocity. At max level, you can reach up to 48 blocks per second – that’s nearly twice as fast as sprinting on the ground with Speed II.

The type of fuel matters – higher burn-time fuels like Coal Blocks or Blaze Rods give you more charge per item. One Coal provides 80 seconds of burn time in a furnace, which translates to 8 units of charge. Fuel consumption increases at higher speeds and in wet conditions (rain or water contact), so stock up before long journeys.

The Elytra Booster offers a more sustainable approach to Elytra flight than Firework Rockets. Instead of crafting hundreds of rockets, you can use common fuels like Coal that you’re already mining. It’s especially powerful for base-to-base travel or exploring new areas where you need reliable, long-distance flight without worrying about running out of rockets mid-air.

Abilities

The Elytra Booster has 1 ability: Acceleration. With a maximum Relic level of 10, you can earn up to 10 Upgrade Points to distribute across this ability.

Acceleration is available immediately when you find the Elytra Booster – no unlock requirements needed. You can start boosting right away and invest all your Upgrade Points into making it stronger.

Acceleration

Acceleration ability from the Elytra Booster

Using any combustible fuel that would work in a furnace on the Relic in the inventory replenishes its internal buffer, which has a maximum capacity of X units. Activating the ability while flying with the Elytra gradually increases the player’s flight speed up to Y blocks per second, consuming fuel from the internal buffer.

To load fuel, simply pick up a burnable item and click it onto the Elytra Booster in your inventory. You’ll hear a blaze sound effect confirming the fuel was added. The ability requires two conditions to activate: you must have fuel in the buffer, and you must be actively flying with an Elytra. Both conditions appear as icons in the ability menu so you can check them at a glance.

Prioritize upgrading Capacity first to extend your flight time before running dry. With a base capacity of 50-100 units, you’ll burn through fuel quickly at high speeds. At max level (350 units), you can fly for several minutes of continuous boosting. Speed upgrades are nice but less critical – even base speed is faster than rockets.

Acceleration unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 1 Upgrade Point(s) per level, with a maximum ability level of 10.

Experience Sources

Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend those points on upgrading abilities. The Elytra Booster offers 1 different way to earn Relic Experience.

You gain +1 Relic Experience for every 10 seconds of burn time when loading fuel into the Elytra Booster’s internal buffer. For example, loading a piece of Coal (which has 80 seconds of burn time) grants 8 Relic Experience. Higher-tier fuels like Blaze Rods or Coal Blocks give proportionally more experience, making them efficient for leveling up your Relic quickly.

Like all Relics, the Elytra Booster benefits from Experience Spreading. Whenever any equipped Relic gains experience, 25% of that amount is shared with all other Relics in your inventory.

Experience Spreading

Experience Spreading is a passive mechanic that helps level up Relics you aren’t actively using. If you gain 100 Relic Experience on one item, every other Relic in your inventory receives 25 bonus experience. This makes it worthwhile to carry multiple Relics even before you can use them all.

Leveling

The Elytra Booster has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points total. Each level requires progressively more Minecraft Experience, as shown in the table below.

Reaching level 10 requires a total of 5,500 Minecraft Experience, equivalent to approximately 68 player levels.

Leveling Strategy

Since Acceleration is the only ability and unlocks immediately, dump all 10 points into it. Focus on Capacity upgrades first (they multiply your base value by 3.5x at max level), then Speed. Stock up on Coal Blocks or Blaze Rods for efficient XP gain – each Coal Block gives roughly 80 Relic Experience from its 800-second burn time.

Works Well With: The Wing of the Wild Stalker from the Ars Nouveau compatibility addon offers double jump, elytra glide, and dash abilities, providing aerial mobility even without an Elytra equipped. The Cloud in a Bottle gives you additional air jumps to gain altitude before deploying your Elytra.

Alternatives: If you don’t have access to the Elytra Booster, the Helium Flamingo provides a completely different style of flight through air swimming – no Elytra required at all. The Whirlisprig Broom summons a flying mount if you prefer controlled flight over gliding.

Config

Server operators and modpack creators can customize the Elytra Booster through configuration files. To enable per-Relic configuration, first set enabledExtendedConfigs: true in the main relics.yaml file located in your Minecraft config folder.

After restarting the game, a Relics folder will appear in the config directory. The Elytra Booster can be configured by editing elytra_booster.yaml.
