Chorus Totem

Estimated reading: 10 minutes

The Chorus Totem is a Relic added by Reliquified Artifacts, an addon that brings the Relics mod’s leveling and ability system to Artifacts items. Equipped in the Charm slot, it punishes attackers by teleporting them to a random nearby location whenever they strike you, with the trigger chance scaling higher the more health you’ve already lost.

The Charm slot is a special equipment slot added by the Curios API, separate from your armor and held-item slots. Items equipped there are always active passively. The Chorus Totem fills a purely reactive defense role, giving you a way to scatter melee attackers automatically, no button presses required.

This guide covers everything you need to know about the Chorus Totem, including how to obtain it, its abilities, leveling costs, and configuration options. For information on other items from this mod, visit our Relics Mod Wiki.

Mod Requirements

The Chorus Totem requires both the Artifacts mod and the RAR-Compat (Reliquified Artifacts) addon to be installed. The Artifacts mod provides the base item, while RAR-Compat adds the Relic leveling system, abilities, and stats on top of it.

Obtaining

Allows the relic bearer to rewind time when making rash decisions. This Relic is equipped in the Charm slot.

The Chorus Totem can be found in two types of locations. The first is any chest whose loot table includes “end” or “stronghold” in its name, such as End City chests and Stronghold corridor chests, with a weight of 500. The second covers any chest located within the End dimension itself, with a lower weight of 100. Both categories can overlap for End City chests, making End Cities the most consistent source.

Relic Quality & Rerolling

Every Relic you find has a quality rating between 0 and 5 stars, shown by the circles beneath its portrait. This rating reflects how good the starting stats rolled when the Relic was generated – higher quality means better initial values.

Each stat on a Relic has a minimum and maximum possible value. When you first obtain a Relic, its stats are randomly rolled within this range. If you’re unhappy with the roll, you can reroll the stats by spending 50 Minecraft Experience. This gives you a chance at better values, though results are still random.

Every time you reroll and a stat doesn’t improve, your Luck percentage increases by one. Higher Luck improves your odds of rolling better stats on future attempts. However, each point of Luck also adds 5 Experience to the reroll cost. At 10% Luck the cost rises to 100 Experience, and at 50% Luck it reaches 300 Experience.

To push stats beyond their maximum base values, you’ll need to spend Upgrade Points earned from leveling the Relic. Rerolling only affects the base stat range – upgrades are applied on top of whatever values you roll.

Usage

The Chorus Totem works entirely on its own the moment you equip it. Every time a mob or another player lands a hit on you, the game checks whether the Temporal Loop ability fires. If it does, your attacker is instantly teleported to a random spot within a short radius of their current position, scattering them mid-fight with a burst of portal particles.

The trigger probability uses your missing health as a direct multiplier. At full health, the ability never fires. The more HP you’ve lost, the higher the chance each incoming hit produces a teleport. With a chance stat of 3.5% and 10 HP missing out of a standard 20 maximum, each hit has roughly a 35% chance of scattering the attacker. At the maximum chance stat of 7% with 15 HP missing, the probability exceeds 100% and the ability becomes guaranteed to fire every hit, giving you a near-certain last-resort defense exactly when you’re closest to dying.

The Temporal Loop ability fires on incoming hits, scattering the attacker through a portal effect.

Because the Charm slot is separate from your armor, necklace, ring, and other slots, the Chorus Totem layers cleanly on top of other defensive Relics. Pairing it with an on-hit necklace or ring means a single incoming blow can trigger multiple defensive reactions at once.

The Chorus Totem is strongest against melee-heavy enemies such as Endermen, Zombified Piglins, and Wither Skeletons, where scattering attackers repeatedly buys you time to recover. It provides no benefit against ranged enemies like Skeletons or Ghasts, since the teleport targets only the entity that directly struck you.

Abilities

The Chorus Totem has 1 ability: Temporal Loop. With a maximum Relic level of 10, you can earn up to 10 Upgrade Points to spend on this ability.

The Temporal Loop ability is available from the moment you equip the Chorus Totem and requires no Relic levels to unlock. All 10 Upgrade Points go directly into upgrading it.

Temporal Loop

Temporal Loop ability from the Chorus Totem

Each attack against the relic bearer has a X% chance per percent of missing health to teleport the attacker to a random location within a Y block radius.

When something hits you, the game multiplies your missing HP (as a raw heart count, not a percentage) by the X chance stat. That result is compared to a random number between 0 and 1. If the result is higher, the attacker gets teleported somewhere within Y blocks of their current position and their momentum is cleared. Portal particles appear at both the origin and the landing spot so you can see exactly where the attacker ended up.

Temporal Loop unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 1 Upgrade Point per level, with a maximum ability level of 10. Both the chance stat and the radius grow with each upgrade via the MULTIPLY_BASE formula, meaning each level adds 10% of the original base value on top of the current total. Prioritize this ability for its chance stat, since a higher trigger rate reduces how often the same attacker lands consecutive hits on you.

Constellations

Before you can use an ability, it must first be researched. Each ability has a constellation puzzle that you need to solve by connecting stars hidden beneath fog. When the constellation matches the background pattern, the ability unlocks automatically.

Above is the constellation for the Chorus Totem, used to unlock the Temporal Loop ability. The pattern contains 6 stars connected by 7 lines. Once you trace the correct connections in the Research window, the Temporal Loop ability activates and the Chorus Totem begins working automatically.

Constellation Hints

If you’re stuck on a puzzle, you can purchase hints for 50 Minecraft Experience each. Alternatively, reveal the entire constellation instantly for 300 Minecraft Experience.

Experience Sources

Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend those points on upgrading abilities. The Chorus Totem offers 1 way to earn Relic Experience.

You earn +1 Relic Experience each time the Temporal Loop ability activates, meaning each time an attacker is successfully teleported. In a tough fight with multiple mobs hitting you in quick succession, activations can accumulate rapidly, especially at low health where the probability of triggering is highest.

Like all Relics, the Chorus Totem benefits from Experience Spreading. Whenever any equipped Relic gains experience, 25% of that amount is shared with all other Relics in your inventory.

Experience Spreading

Experience Spreading is a passive mechanic that helps level up Relics you aren’t actively using. If you gain 100 Relic Experience on one item, every other Relic in your inventory receives 25 bonus experience. This makes it worthwhile to carry multiple Relics even before you can use them all.

Leveling

The Chorus Totem has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points total. Each level requires progressively more Minecraft Experience, as shown in the table below.

Leveling Strategy

The Chorus Totem earns its Relic XP one point per trigger, so leveling speeds up naturally in dangerous areas where you take frequent melee hits. Since there is only one ability, all 10 Upgrade Points go directly into Temporal Loop. The first few upgrades make the biggest practical difference by raising the chance stat enough to trigger reliably at moderate health levels, rather than only when you’re nearly dead.

Related Relics

The Chorus Totem pairs well with the Cross Necklace, worn in the necklace slot, which extends your invulnerability frames after taking a hit. When the Temporal Loop fires and scatters your attacker, the extra i-frames from the Cross Necklace reduce the chance a follow-up strike lands before you can recover. The Chorus Inhibitor, worn in the ring slot, adds an active on-demand teleport to your kit, complementing the Totem’s passive scatter with a tool you can aim yourself.

If you don’t yet have the Chorus Totem, the Obsidian Skull fills the same Charm slot with a different form of passive defense: a rechargeable shield that absorbs fire damage, making it a strong alternative in Nether environments. The Antidote Vessel, also in the Charm slot, is another defensive option that reduces the strength and duration of negative status effects applied to you.

Config

To edit the configuration for an Artifact-compatible Relic, update the enabledExtendedConfigs: false option within relics.yaml in your Minecraft config folder by changing the value to true.

After relaunching Minecraft, a rarcompat folder will appear in the config directory. Inside, look for and edit chorus_totem.yaml.
