Aqua Walker
The
Aqua Walker is one of over 30 unique Relics added by the Relics mod for Minecraft. Each Relic gives you powerful abilities that you can level up and customize, adding new gameplay options whether you’re just starting out or deep into the endgame.
Relics use Curios slots – special equipment slots added by the Curios mod that let you wear accessories alongside your regular armor. You can find Relics in loot
Chests throughout the world, with each one appearing in specific biomes and structures based on its theme. Once you find a Relic, you can upgrade it using experience to unlock stronger abilities and better stats.
This guide covers everything you need to know about the Aqua Walker, including how to obtain it, its abilities, leveling costs, and configuration options. For information on other items from this mod, visit our Relics Mod Wiki.
Obtaining
The Aqua Walker is a magical boot that allows you to walk on water for a limited time before sinking. This Relic is worn on the Feet.

The Aqua Walker can be found in chests located within aquatic biomes and structures. This includes Shipwrecks, Ocean Ruins, and Buried Treasure chests. Any loot table containing “water,” “ocean,” “river,” “ship,” or “aqua” in its name can spawn this Relic. There is a 2.5% chance for this Relic to appear in each eligible chest.
Relic Quality & Rerolling
Every Relic you find has a quality rating between 0 and 5 stars, shown by the circles beneath its portrait. This rating reflects how good the starting stats rolled when the Relic was generated – higher quality means better initial values.
Each stat on a Relic has a minimum and maximum possible value. When you first obtain a Relic, its stats are randomly rolled within this range. If you’re unhappy with the roll, you can reroll the stats by spending 100 Minecraft Experience. This gives you a chance at better values, though results are still random.
Every time you reroll and a stat doesn’t improve, your Luck percentage increases by one. Higher Luck improves your odds of rolling better stats on future attempts. However, each point of Luck also adds 5 Experience to the reroll cost. At 10% Luck the cost rises to 150 Experience, and at 50% Luck it reaches 350 Experience.
To push stats beyond their maximum base values, you’ll need to spend Upgrade Points earned from leveling the Relic. Rerolling only affects the base stat range – upgrades are applied on top of whatever values you roll.
Usage
Simply equip the Aqua Walker in one of your Feet slots, and you can walk directly onto water surfaces without sinking. The boots work passively – just step onto water and start walking. This is perfect for crossing oceans, rivers, or any body of water without needing a boat or building bridges. The boots track how long you’ve been in water using an internal saturation meter.
Every second you spend on water increases your saturation by one. Once your saturation exceeds the time stat (30-60 seconds at base, up to 120 seconds when maxed), the boots become waterlogged, and you’ll start sinking. You’ll need to step onto dry land to reset the saturation; simply being above solid ground will cause it to decrease by 1 per second.

The Aqua Walker pairs excellently with speed-boosting Relics like the
Roller Skates or
Running Shoes. Combined, you can cross massive oceans in seconds – a much faster option than boats for exploration. The
Drowned Belt complements this Relic nicely for underwater combat, and the
Amphibian Boot provides enhanced swimming if you need to dive beneath the surface.
Unlike the vanilla
Frost Walker enchantment that freezes water into
ice, the Aqua Walker lets you walk directly on the liquid surface without altering the blocks beneath you. This means you won’t leave a trail of ice behind, which is useful when you don’t want to affect the environment or when playing on servers where block changes might be restricted.
Abilities
The Aqua Walker has 1 ability: Moisture Resistance. With a maximum Relic level of 10, you can earn up to 10 Upgrade Points to invest entirely into this ability.
Moisture Resistance unlocks immediately at level 0, so you can start walking on water as soon as you find the Relic.
Moisture Resistance

For a certain period, allows walking on the surface of water without sinking. Once the time runs out, the boots start sinking, pulling the wearer underwater. To dry them, the wearer must stay away from water blocks. The drying time fully depends on the level of saturation.
This ability lets you walk across water surfaces for up to X seconds before the boots become waterlogged. At base stats (30-60 seconds), you can cross small lakes and rivers easily. At the maximum level with 120 seconds of water-walking time, you can traverse entire ocean biomes without worrying about sinking.
The saturation mechanic encourages strategic island-hopping rather than marathon ocean crossings. Touch down on small islands or beaches periodically to reset your saturation. Since this is the only ability on the Aqua Walker, you’ll want to invest all 10 Upgrade Points here to maximize your time on water.
Moisture Resistance unlocks at Relic level 0 and costs 1 Upgrade Point(s) per level, with a maximum ability level of 10.

Experience Sources
Relic Experience is required to level up a Relic, gain Upgrade Points, and spend those points on upgrading abilities. The Aqua Walker offers 1 different way to earn Relic Experience.
The Moisture Resistance ability grants +1 Relic Experience for every 5 seconds you spend walking on water. You don’t need to actively do anything – just walk on water with the boots equipped, and experience will accumulate automatically. This makes leveling the Aqua Walker straightforward: the more you use it, the faster it levels up.
Like all Relics, the Aqua Walker benefits from Experience Spreading. Whenever any equipped Relic gains experience, 25% of that amount is shared with all other Relics in your inventory.
Experience Spreading is a passive mechanic that helps level up Relics you aren’t actively using. If you gain 100 Relic Experience on one item, every other Relic in your inventory receives 25 bonus experience. This makes it worthwhile to carry multiple Relics even before you can use them all.
Leveling
The Aqua Walker has a maximum level of 10, providing 10 Upgrade Points total. Each level requires progressively more Minecraft Experience, as shown in the table below.
XP Cost
Total XP
Reaching level 10 requires a total of 5,500 Minecraft Experience, equivalent to approximately 69 player levels.
Since the Aqua Walker only has one ability, your leveling strategy is straightforward: put every Upgrade Point into Moisture Resistance. The jump from 60 seconds to 120 seconds at max level effectively doubles your water-walking time, making long ocean voyages much more practical. Prioritize getting to at least level 5 (90 seconds) early on, which provides comfortable crossing time for most situations.
Related Relics
Works Well With: The
Amphibian Boot enhances swimming speed when you need to dive below the surface, making it a natural companion for water exploration. The
Drowned Belt increases your underwater combat effectiveness, useful if you encounter
Drowned or other aquatic threats.
Alternatives: If you don’t have access to this Relic, the vanilla
Frost Walker enchantment offers similar functionality by freezing water into ice beneath your feet. However, Frost Walker leaves a trail of ice blocks that eventually melt, while the Aqua Walker doesn’t modify any blocks. For a simpler swim speed boost, the
Flippers from the Artifacts compatibility addon provide faster underwater movement.
Config
Server operators and modpack creators can customize the Aqua Walker through configuration files. To enable per-Relic configuration, first set enabledExtendedConfigs: true in the main relics.yaml file located in your Minecraft config folder.
After restarting the game, a Relics folder will appear in the config directory. The Aqua Walker can be configured by editing aqua_walker.yaml.
