Aptrgangr

Upon reaching the Frosted Prison, one of the largest mobs guarding this location is Aptrgangr. This axe-wielding monster has 160 Health and 10 Armor points.

About Aptrgangr

Alongside the Draugr, Aptrgangr also infest the Frosted Prison. There isn’t just one of them either, as typically, around 6 of them can be found and will need to be fought.

As the main boss room is approached, around 3 Aptgangr can be found guarding it and the surrounding loot rooms. Aptrgangr can’t be avoided either, as it drops the ‘Strange Key’ item, which is used to open the Door of Seal.

Once opened, it leads to the boss room, where Maledictus can be summoned and fought. There’s no way to break into the boss room without acquiring the Strange Key, as the room is surrounded by Dungeon Blocks, which can’t be broken with a Pickaxe.

Defeating Aptgangr

Aptgangr has 160 health and 16 armor, making it a formidable foe. As a miniboss, it possesses special mechanics and unique moves during combat.

During the fight, Aptrgangr will use a variety of attacks. The first attack is a melee strike that also causes knockback. When Aptrgangr slams the ground with its axe, projectiles will be summoned and fired outward. These projectiles can be easily dodged.

The final attack that Aptrgangr performs will cause it to charge at the player, picking them up and rushing them into a wall, with a message displaying “You can’t escape.”

Generally, players will want to bring equipment they would to any high-level fight, such as Enchanted Netherite gear, and Potions of Regeneration and Resistance. Using a Bow and Arrow from a height will allow you to fight Aptrgangr without taking damage, as it can’t reach you.

Loot & Rewards

The primary item that Aptrgangr drops is the Strange Key, which is used to open the Door of Seal and fight Maledictus. It also drops 1-4 Bones and 1-4 Rotten Flesh.

Like other mobs within the Frosted Prison, Aptrgangr drops Black Steel in both Nugget and Ingot form. Each time it’s killed, 2-4 Nuggets will be dropped, and 1-3 Ingots, and these can later be used to craft different items like the Black Steel Targe, Soul Render, and Cursed Bow.
