Cataclysm Frosted Prison

The Frosted Prison is a mid-to-endgame dungeon located in snowy biomes in the Cataclysm mod for Minecraft. This massive, multi-level structure is heavily fortified and contains unique enemies, minibosses, puzzles, and powerful loot.

At its core lies the spectral general Maledictus, who serves as the dungeon’s final boss and is the primary source of Cursium Ingots, a material needed for crafting top-tier weapons and armor.

The Frosted Prison is one of the most complex and perilous structures in the mod, requiring careful preparation, suitable gear, and specific knowledge to conquer. This central article offers links to all relevant guides and wiki entries related to the dungeon’s layout, enemies, loot, and mechanics.

How to find the Frosted Prison

The Frozen Prison spawns in the Overworld, and players have the highest chance of finding it when searching some of Minecraft’s snowy biomes. It’s a large structure, so players may stumble upon it while exploring.

Eye of Curse Recipe

However, it can easily be found by crafting an Eye of Curse, which works similarly to an Eye of Ender. Except when it’s released, it will point towards the nearest Frozen Prison instead.

Mobs

The dungeon’s creatures vary in strength and behavior. The basic unit is the Draugr, which can be armed with either Black Steel Swords or Axes. The sword variants deal 9 HP damage, while the axe variants deal 12 HP and disable shields. When defeated, these mobs drop items such as Bones, Rotten Flesh, Nuggets, and there is a small chance of obtaining Ingots or weapons.

Elite Draugr use Crossbows for ranged attacks and switch to melee weapons when they are threatened. Royal Draugr are equipped with ornate armor and dual-wield Black Steel weapons. Their sword has a damage value of 10 HP, while their Axe deals 13 HP. Additionally, their shield remains active unless it is interrupted by an Axe strike.

The Aptgangr is a mini-boss located in six unpredictable areas of the dungeon. It has two primary attacks: an overhead shockwave attack that deals 8 damage per wave and 18 damage with a melee impact, and a brutal charge that inflicts 18 damage, or 27 damage if it collides with a player.

These charges can send players crashing into pointed icicles, resulting in instant death. The Aptgangr heals itself when out of combat and drops black steel parts along with the critical Strange Key, which is needed to access Maledictus.

Loot and Gear Progression

There isn’t much notable loot to collect within the Frosted Prison. Chests are sparse, and players will mostly find harvestable blocks to bring back, such as Chains, Campfires, Iron Bars, and Soul Lanterns.

In the second-to-last room, before going through the Door of Seal Part to the main boss chamber, some Chests and Barrels can be found on either side of the room. These contain Enchanted Diamond equipment, Iron Ingots, Black Steel Ingots, and more.

The more desirable items come from the main boss within the Frosted Prison. Maledictus drops the ingredients, such as Cursium Ingots for multiple high-tier items:

  • Cursed Bow: Fires three arrows normally or two with status arrows. Upgradeable into Wrath of the Desert.
  • Soul Render: A halberd that combines mobility and burst damage. Right-click performs a charge; shift-right-click creates a halberd spiral.
  • Annihilator: A dual-wield weapon modeled after Maledictus’s maces. Can be upgraded to the Emulator using Ignitium.

Each weapon is unbreakable and can be enchanted. Additional effects, such as armor penetration and movement debuffs, enhance their power.

Cursium Armor upgrades Netherite into a full set, providing benefits like Ghost Vision, Undead Revive, Ghost Dodge, and Ghostly Weightlessness. These effects enable improved mobility, temporary invincibility, and significant resistance to fall damage.

Boss

The final boss to defeat in the Frosted Prison is Maledictus. Maledictus is summoned by right-clicking on the Cursed Tombstone, which can be found at the back of this boss room. In total, Maledicitus has 420 Health and 10 Armor points.

The Cursed Tombstone

Maledictus is challenging, as it cycles through three weapons: Phantom Maces, a Halberd, and a Phantom Bow. Each weapon features unique basic and special attacks.

His rage meter increases with every melee hit, which amplifies his damage. Attacks such as Rupturing Descent and Archaic Resentment from his maces can deal up to 42 HP. The Halberd allows for lunges and features an attack called Thousand Pierced Fall, which creates phantom halberds in a designated area.

Additionally, the bow fires homing arrows in bursts of four. Maledictus also employs a move called Shackled Plummet, a suppression and slam attack that can deal over 60 HP.

Combat is characterized by visual indicators on his wrists: green (indicating blockable attacks), orange (indicating blockable attacks that disable the shield), and red (indicating unblockable attacks). He regenerates health if he is not in combat. Upon defeat, he drops 3 to 4 Cursium Ingots along with his music disc. The cursed tombstone reactivates every three minutes.
