Kangaroo

Kangaroos are large, herbivorous marsupials introduced by the Alex’s Mobs mod. They naturally inhabit Savanna and Badlands biomes and are known for their distinctive bipedal hopping.

With behaviors inspired by their real-world counterparts, these mobs include Joeys (baby Kangaroos), possess combat abilities, and have a unique pouch system that differentiates them from most tamable creatures.

Behavior

In the wild, Kangaroos are neutral mobs that only become aggressive if they are attacked. They move exclusively by hopping, which makes them distinctive compared to other passive animals in Minecraft.

Adult kangaroos may sometimes be seen with Joeys visible in their pouches. While they remain calm when undisturbed, their powerful kicks and punches effectively deter potential threats.

These marsupials feed on Grass and avoid unnecessary conflict. If engaged, they execute hind-leg strikes with moderate knockback. The animations and routines replicate natural Kangaroo behavior, such as pausing to graze and bounding across open terrain.

Spawning

Kangaroos naturally inhabit savannas and badlands, where they can be found either alone or in loose groups. They thrive in flat, open areas that allow for their unique hopping movement, which can restrict their presence in more rugged terrains.

Baby Kangaroos are born less frequently than adults, but they play a crucial role in the breeding cycle.

Taming and Inventory

Taming a kangaroo involves feeding it 10 to 15 Carrots. Once tamed, the Kangaroo can be commanded to stay, follow, or wander. Players can access their pouch inventory by sneaking and interacting with it, allowing them to store gear and items inside.

This pouch functions as an operational inventory and influences behavior. When a melee weapon is placed inside the pouch, the Kangaroo can use it in battle. It can also equip Helmets and Chestplates, which provide visual armor support and enhance durability during combat.

Additionally, plant-based food stored in the pouch will be automatically consumed when the Kangaroo is injured, allowing for self-sustaining healing capabilities. The pouch system transforms Kangaroos into highly flexible companions, capable of supporting exploration, defense, and even light tank roles in combat.

Combat Abilities

Wild kangaroos retaliate with strong punches and kicks. When tamed and equipped, their damage output can be significantly increased. The kangaroo targets any hostile mobs, using its natural strikes in conjunction with player-provided weapons. This includes swords, axes, or other compatible melee tools.

Kangaroos excel at solo engagements and perform well in environments with ample room for maneuvering. With sufficient armor and healing supplies in their pouch, they can absorb considerable damage, making them useful during raids, cave exploration, or while traveling in dangerous regions.

Drops and Crafting

When defeated, Kangaroos may drop Kangaroo Meat, which restores hunger when cooked and can be crafted into Kangaroo Burgers, a unique food item. Additionally, they drop Kangaroo Hide, which can be used as a crafting material for Leather or to create Outback Leggings.

These drops provide practical rewards, making Kangaroos a viable target for farming materials. However, their value as companions often surpasses the benefits of harvesting them.

Breeding

Breeding kangaroos can be done using either Grass or Dead Bushes as food sources. When the breeding is successful, a Joey will be born. As time passes, the Joey will mature into a fully grown Kangaroo, which can then be tamed just like any wild adult.

This breeding system not only supports the growth of herds but also allows players to selectively raise companions that are armored or trained for combat. Breeding provides a sustainable method for expanding a player’s roster of mobile, defensive allies.
