Elephant

Elephants are large, herbivorous land mammals introduced in the Alex’s Mobs mod. They naturally spawn in Savanna biomes and appear in organized herds that can consist of three types: Calves, Non-Tusked Adults, and Tusked Adults.

These animals exhibit complex behaviors, group dynamics, and various interactions with their environment. Among the different types, Tusked Elephants are particularly notable as they are rare, powerful individuals with specialized combat abilities.

Behavior

Elephants are generally neutral creatures but will become aggressive when provoked, especially if a member of their herd is harmed. This defensive behavior is often led by tusked individuals, who take on the role of protectors.

Elephants travel in groups, forage together, and display protective reactions toward each other. They can rear up on their hind legs to reach Leaves, particularly targeting Acacia trees, which produce a rare item known as the Acacia Blossom.

Elephants exhibit various animations for foraging, walking, and combat, enhancing the immersive experience. When mounted, their movement is steady and strong, highlighting their massive size.

Spawning

Herds of elephants spawn in the Savannas. When generated, each herd may include up to three types of Elephants:

• Calves: Smaller and can be tamed.
• Non-tusked adults: Tamable and are used for riding.
• Tusked adults: Stronger, non-tamable Elephants with enhanced health and abilities.

Taming and Riding

To tame an Elephant, players need to use Acacia Blossoms, which can be obtained by breaking the Leaves of Acacia Trees. Only Elephant calves and non-tusked adults can be tamed directly. Once tamed, an Elephant can be equipped with a Chest to offer portable inventory space, as well as a Carpet for decorative customization.

Tamed Elephants can be ridden much like Horses. They are capable of navigating rugged terrain efficiently, although they are generally slower than Horses.

A particularly impressive type of tamed Elephant is one that has matured from a calf into a tusked adult, while still retaining its loyalty. These Elephants can also be utilized in combat. Feeding Wheat to such a mount grants it the ability to perform a powerful charge attack, which deals damage and knocks back enemies.

Combat Abilities

Tusked Elephants grown from tamed calves become formidable war mounts. They feature several offensive capabilities:

• Charge Attack: Initiated by feeding Wheat while mounted. The Elephant lowers its head and charges forward, dealing area knockback and damage.
• Trunk Toss: Targets nearby hostile mobs and throws them a short distance.
• Stomp: Executed by rearing and slamming both front feet down, causing area-of-effect damage.

These tusked elephants are valuable assets during raids, PvE encounters, and even modded combat scenarios. Their size enables them to absorb significant damage while attracting aggro from multiple enemies.

Unique Interactions

Wandering Traders can appear mounted on Elephants, especially in warm biomes. These instances function as mobile trade hubs, with Elephants featuring built-in chests and decorative designs. Players can still interact with the Elephants and access their inventories.

Breeding

Breeding elephants requires Acacia Blossoms, making it a resource-intensive process. Only non-tusked adults and calves are eligible for breeding. The result of this process is a calf, which will eventually mature into one of three types of elephants.

If a calf becomes a tusked elephant, it retains any taming status it had previously, making this the only way to obtain a tame tusked adult. The growth period from calf to adult can be accelerated using wheat. Players seeking combat mounts will need to plan ahead, ensuring calves are protected and properly raised.
