Spelunkery Table
The Spelunkery Table is a functional block added by Alex’s Caves. It is a workstation used to translate Cave Tablets into Cave Codexes through a word-guessing minigame that decodes Standard Galactic Alphabet symbols.
This block is essential for progression in Alex’s Caves, as translating Cave Tablets is the only way to obtain Cave Codices. Cave Codices unlock chapters in the Cave Compendium and can be crafted into Cave Biome Maps that locate specific cave biomes.
Spelunkery Tables are found in Underground Cabins and cannot be crafted. Players can break and move Spelunkery Tables to more convenient locations using any tool, and the same table can be reused to translate multiple Cave Tablets.
Obtaining
Spelunkery Tables are found exclusively in Underground Cabins, small underground structures that generate in the Overworld. Every Underground Cabin contains exactly one Spelunkery Table as part of its default structure generation.
Underground Cabins can be located using Underground Cabin Maps, which are found in Abandoned Mineshaft chests or purchased from Cartographer Villagers. Once a Spelunkery Table is found, players can break it with any tool and move it to a more convenient location without losing functionality.

Spelunkery Tables cannot be crafted by players. The only way to obtain additional Spelunkery Tables is to locate more Underground Cabins, though this is rarely necessary as one table can translate unlimited Cave Tablets.
Usage
The Spelunkery Table translates Cave Tablets into Cave Codices through a word-guessing minigame. To begin, players must place both a Cave Tablet and 1 Paper into the Spelunkery Table slots. Right-clicking the table opens the translation interface.
The translation interface displays three words in Standard Galactic Alphabet symbols that must be decoded. Each word has its own 5-attempt limit, and all three words must be successfully guessed to complete the translation. Players type their guesses using the keyboard, receiving feedback on correct and incorrect letters similar to word-guessing games like Wordle.

If a word is guessed incorrectly, players can use the magnifying glass lens feature to reveal which letters correspond to which Standard Galactic Alphabet symbols. This lens is displayed in the interface and can be dragged over previous guesses to decode the symbols without external references.
The first word in the translation minigame is always random, so players can click any word to start. After the first incorrect guess, use the magnifying glass lens to identify symbol-to-letter correspondences. This information applies to all three words in the translation, making subsequent guesses much easier.
Successfully translating all three words transforms the Cave Tablet into a Cave Codex, which can be removed from the table. If players fail to guess a word within 5 attempts, the Cave Tablet will crack. Failing multiple words causes the tablet to crumble completely, destroying it permanently without producing a Cave Codex.
The Spelunkery Table is reusable and has no durability or fuel requirements. Once a translation is complete, players can immediately insert another Cave Tablet and Paper to begin a new translation process.
Translation Interface
The Spelunkery Table translation interface consists of three main elements: the word display area, the input box, and the magnifying glass lens. The word display shows three Standard Galactic Alphabet words that must be decoded to complete the translation.
Players select a word by clicking on it, which activates the input box for typing guesses. The interface tracks the number of attempts remaining for each word, displaying “Attempts Left: X” for the currently selected word. Each word starts with 5 attempts.
After making an incorrect guess, the magnifying glass lens becomes active and can be dragged over attempted guesses. The lens reveals which English letters correspond to which Standard Galactic Alphabet symbols, providing crucial hints for subsequent attempts. This information remains valid for all three words in the current translation.

The interface provides visual feedback throughout the process. Correct guesses turn green, incorrect letters turn red, and the Cave Tablet displays cracking animations when words are failed. Sound effects accompany each action, including tablet insertion, successful translations, cracks, and failures.
