Cave Tablet
The Cave Tablet is an item added by Alex’s Caves. It is a mysterious ancient artifact found in Underground Cabins in the Overworld that contains encrypted information about specific cave biomes in the mod.
Cave Tablets must be translated using a Spelunkery Table to create a Cave Codex, which unlocks information in the Cave Compendium and can be crafted into Cave Biome Maps. Each Cave Tablet corresponds to one of the six cave biomes added by Alex’s Caves.
Players need to collect Cave Tablets for all six biome types to fully unlock the Cave Compendium and access all cave biomes. Cave Tablets cannot be crafted and are only obtained from Underground Cabin Chests.
Obtaining
Cave Tablets are found exclusively in Underground Cabin chests. These tablets only spawn in cabins located near specific cave biomes, meaning cabins far from any Alex’s Caves biomes will not contain Cave Tablets.
Each Underground Cabin Chest near a cave biome has a 40% chance per item roll to contain the corresponding Cave Tablet, with 12-22 item rolls per chest. This makes Cave Tablets relatively common in biome-specific cabins.
Only one Cave Tablet type spawns per cabin, matched to the nearest cave biome. To collect all six Cave Tablet variants, players must locate six different Underground Cabins positioned near each of the different cave biome types.
Cave Tablets cannot be crafted or obtained through any other means. Players must explore underground and use Underground Cabin Maps to locate cabins near cave biomes. Underground Cabin Maps can be found in Abandoned Mineshaft chests or purchased from Cartographer Villagers.
Variants
There are six variants of Cave Tablets in Alex’s Caves, one for each cave biome. Each tablet stores data about its corresponding biome and has a unique color based on the biome it represents.
The six Cave Tablet types are Magnetic Caves Cave Tablet, Primordial Caves Cave Tablet, Toxic Caves Cave Tablet, Abyssal Chasm Cave Tablet, Forlorn Hollows Cave Tablet, and Candy Cavity Cave Tablet.
Players can identify which biome a Cave Tablet corresponds to by translating it with a Spelunkery Table. The resulting Cave Codex will display the biome name in its tooltip.
Usage
To translate a Cave Tablet, players must place it in a Spelunkery Table along with 1 Paper. Right-clicking the Spelunkery Table opens the translation interface, which displays a word in Standard Galactic Alphabet symbols.
The interface provides 5 attempts to guess each word correctly. Players type their guess using the keyboard, and the Spelunkery Table provides feedback on correct and incorrect letters similar to word-guessing games like Wordle. The translation process requires completing 3 separate words successfully to transform the Cave Tablet into a Cave Codex.
If players fail to guess a word within 5 attempts, the Cave Tablet will crack. Failing multiple words causes the tablet to crumble completely, destroying it permanently without producing a Cave Codex. Players should be careful during the translation minigame to avoid losing rare Cave Tablets.
After each incorrect guess, players can use the magnifying glass lens feature in the Spelunkery Table to reveal which letters correspond to which symbols. This makes subsequent guesses much easier without needing external references. The Standard Galactic Alphabet can also be decoded using online charts if preferred.
Once translated into a Cave Codex, players can use the codex to unlock chapters in the Cave Compendium. Each Cave Codex unlocks information about its corresponding biome, including resources, inhabitants, and utilities.
Cave Codices can also be crafted with 8 Paper to create a Cave Biome Map, which locates the nearest cave biome of that type. This is the primary method for finding Alex’s Caves biomes.
