While usually not the highest priority for many players in Minecraft, enchanting the Fishing Rod can provide many benefits, and might be worth doing earlier than you think. Mostly, players can catch fish faster, or have a higher chance of finding treasure items.
There are only two Enchantments unique to the Fishing Rod, which are Lure and Luck of the Sea. Though Fishing Rods can also receive the Unbreaking Enchantment, Mending, and the Curse of Vanishing.
1Lure III
When reeling out a Fishing Rod, it can take anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds for a fish to bite the hook. With the Lure Enchantment applied to a Rod, the amount of time spent waiting for a bite is greatly reduced.
For each level for Lure, 5 seconds is subtracted from the total waiting time, for a total of 15 seconds at Lure III. Meaning that there’s a chance to catch fish instantly with a high level Lure.
However, if the wait time drops below 0, a new wait time will be generated. With that said, Lure is the best Enchantment to apply to a fishing rod, as it gives the most fish per hour consistently.
2Luck Of The Sea III
When used on a fishing rod, ‘Luck of the Sea’ enhances your overall luck while fishing. By default, a fishing rod has a 5% chance of catching treasure and a 10% chance of reeling in junk.
However, each level of Luck of the Sea increases the chance of catching treasure by 2% and decreases the likelihood of receiving junk by 2% as well. With Luck of the Sea III applied you can expect an 11% chance of receiving treasure, a 4% chance of receiving junk, and an 85% chance of catching a fish.

When catching Treasure, players can receive Bows, Enchanted Books, Fishing Rods, Name Tags, Nautilus Shells, and Saddles. Whereas Junk consists of Lily Pads, Bowls, Fishing Rods, Leather, Leather Boots, Rotten Flesh, Stick, String, Water Bottle, Bone, Ink Sac, and Tripwire Hooks.
3Unbreaking III
The next Enchantment that players should try and prioritize is Unbreaking, which also has a maximum level of III. With Unbreaking applied to a Fishing Rod, there’s a percent chance that the durability will not decrease each time it’s used.

Each level of Unbreaking effectively increases the number of times a tool can be used by 100% for each level of the Enchantment. Unbreaking should be prioritized when wanting to keep a Fishing Rod that has useful Enchantments, such as Lure or Luck of the Sea.
4Mending I
Mending is another Enchantment that aids with durability, however it works a little different with the Fishing Rod. When applied to a tool, Mending will slowly repair the item using Experience Orbs that are picked up.
As fishing grants experience in Minecraft, the Fishing Rod will essentially have infinite durability, provided it’s used only for fishing. Combining it with Unbreaking can guarantee the Fishing Rod will never break.
Unlike the previous 3 Enchantments, Mending can’t be obtained from an Enchanting Table. Instead, it can be found through fishing, in some Chests, or traded from a Librarian Villager.
