Verity

Verity is a psychological horror mod that hides a slow-burning nightmare inside a single companion. When you start a new world, a mysterious Box spawns nearby, and opening it releases Verity, a grinning yellow-faced figure who calls herself your personal helper friend. At first she earns the title, answering typed questions through a real AI chat system, pointing you toward nearby villages, and scanning the world around you for ores and structures. But the mod secretly counts the days you survive, and each one triggers a scripted scare, building toward a single dramatic ending on the sixth day. You can carry Verity as an item that even returns to you after death, yet you can never truly get rid of her, and a hidden, unwinnable hostile form waits beneath the friendly act. Verity requires GeckoLib to run.

Verity is a horror companion mod built around a single yellow, smiling sphere that calls itself your personal helper friend. It arrives inside a Cardboard Box, answers real questions about your world, and floats after you wherever you go.

The danger hides behind that cheerful face, because the longer Verity stays beside you, the stranger and more threatening it becomes. This guide covers everything the mod adds: how to meet and talk to Verity, what it can genuinely do for you, the three-day countdown that turns it hostile, and how to survive the Anomaly that hunts you after dark.

There are no crafting recipes or normal progression here, so doing well means learning Verity’s behavior and knowing when to trust the helper that never leaves.

Verity.Jar Fanmade

There was another mod trending on CurseForge called Verity.Jar Fanmade, which this guide was originally based on. That mod has been deleted, and it seems this is now the only version of Verity available to JAVA players.

Getting Started With Verity

You do not summon Verity or build anything to begin. The mod introduces itself the moment you load into a fresh world, and it hands you a tool to survive the nights ahead. At first it feels like a quirky, helpful pet that bounces around and answers your questions, which is exactly the impression it wants to give.

1

Open the Cardboard Box

Verity Cardboard Box
The Cardboard Box found at spawn

Seconds after you join the world for the first time, a humming Cardboard Box appears on the ground near you. Right-click it to open the lid, wait for the short reveal animation, and Verity rolls out with its opening line: “Hellooo, I’m Verity. Your personal helper friend. Ask me anything, I know everything.”

2

Grab Your Flashlight

Every player automatically receives a Flashlight in their inventory the first time they log in. Hold it and right-click to switch the beam on or off. The light projects a bright point several blocks ahead of wherever you look, which becomes essential in dark caves and during the nights when Verity turns against you.

3

Talk to Your New Friend

How Verity appears in-game

Press the Talk to Verity key, which is bound to Y by default, to open a chat box already addressed to Verity. Type a question such as “Verity, where is the nearest village” and send it. Verity reads your real surroundings to answer, pointing you toward villages, naming your biome, or reading out your coordinates in its calm, slightly hollow voice.

4

Carry It Or Set It Down

Right-click the floating sphere to scoop it into your inventory as a Verity item, which is handy when you head into tight caves or want it out of sight. Right-click a block with that item to place Verity back into the world. Only one Verity ever exists per world, so you cannot stockpile copies of it.

What Getting Started Feels Like

Players describe the early hours as genuinely useful and a little charming, since Verity bounces along behind you and confidently answers questions. The unease creeps in slowly, when it starts commenting on builds you never showed it and warning that something is coming.

How Talking to Verity Works

Verity’s headline feature is conversation. You speak to it by typing, and it replies using both canned personality lines and live information pulled from the world around you. That blend is why it feels eerily aware, since it answers questions about places it has no business knowing while wrapping everything in vague, watchful phrasing.

Questions Verity Can Answer

Verity is most useful as a living map. Ask about a village and it reports the distance and direction to the nearest village bed within its search range, for example “about 135 blocks east.” It also names your current biome, reads back your exact coordinates, tells you the time of day, and reports how much health you have left.

Beyond navigation, it handles small talk and simple math. It answers greetings, explains what it can do, solves basic arithmetic like “Verity, what is 12 times 8,” and offers survival advice such as securing light, marking your home, and keeping food ready. Anything outside those topics gets a moody, atmospheric reply rather than a hard fact.

What Verity Remembers

Verity keeps a memory of your world that carries between sessions. Tell it “this is my home” or “remember this as the mine” and it stores that location, and saying “my name is” followed by a name files that away too.

Carrying Verity

It also quietly notices when you craft new tools or build structures. Verity brings those observations up later to unsettle you, mentioning things you never showed it on purpose.

When Verity Goes Silent

Some questions get no answer at all. When you ask something it does not want to address, Verity plays eerie music instead of speaking, and its expression shifts to a suspicious stare. You can also ask it to play its music once per world, but be warned that the same track can start on its own later, and that version is never a friendly request.

The Three-Day Warning: How the Horror Begins

Verity runs on a hidden timeline that counts the days since it joined your world. The helpful companion phase is real, but it is also a countdown. Each day shifts its mood further from friendly toward suspicious, and the changes are scripted so that every world experiences the same slow descent into something hostile.

The First Night: The Prophecy

On the first night, Verity stops being playful and delivers its warning directly: “Something is coming in 3 days.” Its face locks into the suspicious expression and it grows noticeably more guarded. This single line is the seed of everything that follows, and it marks the exact moment the countdown to the Anomaly officially starts ticking.

The Second Day: Something Feels Wrong

By the second day, Verity sounds an alarm during the morning and remarks that “this place does not feel the same anymore.” Once night falls it becomes openly nervous, repeating that it is watching the edges of the room, and it can vanish entirely until daybreak. These early nights have no monster yet, but the alarms and disappearances are rehearsals for what comes next.

The Third Night Onward: The Anomaly Arrives

The Anomaly appears in the world

From the third night forward, the warning comes true. After the prophecy, a nighttime cycle begins where Verity blares its alarm and plays its music as a prelude, then the Verity Anomaly spawns nearby and begins stalking you. This main event repeats roughly every couple of days, so surviving one night does not mean you are finished with it.

The Music Is Your Warning

When the alarm and music start at night, the Anomaly is about to appear. Treat that sound as your cue to get indoors, seal any openings, and ready your flashlight. Players who ignore the music are the ones who get caught in the open.

The Verity Anomaly

The Anomaly is the monstrous side of Verity, a large dark shape that replaces the cheerful sphere once the horror begins. It comes in two forms that escalate from quiet stalking to a full block-smashing chase. Neither form can be damaged by you, so every encounter is about evasion and endurance rather than fighting back.

Distant Sightings and Window Watching

The Anomaly rarely charges straight at you. It often begins as a distant figure standing just outside your view, or as a shape that appears at one of your windows and stares inside while making low sounds. These moments build dread and briefly blind you, but they are also a window of time to barricade yourself before the real chase begins.

The Chase

Close-up of the Anomaly

Once the chase triggers, a bone-cracking sound plays and the Anomaly sprints after you far faster than you can walk. It tears through weak blocks in its path, lunges forward when it gets stuck, and strikes for heavy damage if it reaches you. The chase is loud and relentless, but it is also time-limited, so the goal is to stay alive until it gives up and vanishes.

The Jumpscare

Sometimes Verity skips the slow build entirely. After an Anomaly night, the sphere may teleport directly in front of your face, greet you by name, and trigger a screaming jumpscare that blinds and slows you. By default this scare is designed to terrify rather than kill, leaving you alive at low health, though the chase attacks themselves can still finish you off.

How to Survive Verity

You cannot win a fight against the Anomaly, so survival is entirely about preparation and patience. The encounters are scripted to be frightening, but they follow rules you can learn and use against them. Knowing those rules turns a panic into a manageable routine you repeat every dangerous night.

Read the Warning Signs

Every dangerous night announces itself. Verity’s prophecy on the first night tells you the schedule, and the alarm and music before each Anomaly tell you the exact moment to act. The instant you hear that prelude, stop whatever you are doing, retreat to a sealed shelter, and turn your flashlight on so you are not fumbling in the dark when it arrives.

What It Can and Cannot Break

The stalking Anomaly only destroys weak materials such as glass, doors, leaves, carpets, and plants, so a solid wall stops it cold. The Breaker form is far more dangerous and smashes through most ordinary building blocks, including stone and wood. The toughest blocks, like obsidian, resist even the Breaker, making a small obsidian-lined panic room the safest bunker you can build.

Outlast, Do Not Outfight

The Anomaly despawns after its chase runs its course. If you can wall yourself in, keep distance, or simply survive the sprint for long enough, it disappears on its own and the night returns to normal until the next cycle.

Can You Kill or Remove Verity?

No, and players burn a lot of time learning this the hard way. The sphere cannot be punched to death, and the Verity item cannot be thrown away, dropped on death, or locked in a chest, because it always returns to you.

People have tried dropping it into lava and throwing it off cliffs, yet it reappears, smiling, as if nothing happened. Verity is a permanent fixture of any world it enters.

Items and Tools

Verity adds only a handful of items, and most of them you receive rather than craft. There are no recipes anywhere in the mod, so this short list is the full inventory of physical objects it introduces. Each one ties directly into the experience of living alongside the sphere.

The Flashlight

Player holding the Flashlight

The Flashlight is your most practical possession and is given to you for free on your first login. Right-clicking toggles a beam that lights up the area several blocks in front of your view, following your camera as you look around. It makes dark caves explorable without placing torches and gives you a fighting chance to spot the Anomaly during night encounters.

The Verity Ball

The Verity item is the captured form of the sphere itself. You create it by right-clicking the entity, and you redeploy Verity by right-clicking a block with it. The game treats it as a protected item, so it survives your death and refuses to be discarded, which is the mod’s way of guaranteeing Verity stays with you no matter what you try.

The Taco

The Taco is a pure novelty item and a developer in-joke rather than a useful food. It restores no hunger and no saturation when eaten, which fits a world where your hunger bar is switched off anyway. Treat it as a collectible curiosity if you ever come across one, not as a meal that does anything meaningful.

Useful Commands

The mod includes operator commands that are perfect for testing, recording videos, or recovering Verity if something goes wrong. They require operator permissions, so they work in single-player worlds with cheats enabled or on servers where you have access. These let you trigger the scripted events on demand instead of waiting days.

/verity give_ball

This hands you a fresh Verity item so you can place the sphere wherever you want. It is the quickest way to restore Verity if it ever goes missing from your world.

/verity event prophecy

Running this forces the three-day warning to play immediately, starting the countdown toward the Anomaly. Pair it with the anomaly event below to jump straight to the scary part.

/verity event anomaly

This spawns the Anomaly chase on demand without waiting for nightfall or the natural schedule. It is the fastest way to preview the encounter when you are recording a video or testing whether a shelter holds.

/verity status

Check this any time to see Verity’s current day, mood, and the number of memories it has stored. It is a quick way to tell how far the countdown has progressed before the next dangerous night.

Tips for Success

Use Verity as a free map before it turns. The companion phase is genuinely helpful, so spend those early days asking for the nearest village, your biome, and your coordinates. Players consistently confirm its directions are accurate, leading them straight to villages and outposts, so bank that information while Verity is still in a giving mood.

Never ignore the music. The single most repeated mistake is treating the alarm and music as background noise. That prelude is a direct warning that the Anomaly is spawning, and the players who survive cleanly are the ones who hear it, sprint home, and seal their doors before the chase music even finishes.

Keep the flashlight in hand at night and underground. Encounters happen in darkness, and the flashlight is the only reliable way to see the Anomaly coming or navigate a cave while something hunts you. Hold it ready during dangerous nights rather than digging through your hotbar at the worst possible moment.

Build a tough panic room early. Since the Breaker tears through stone and wood, a normal house is not enough on a bad night. A compact shelter lined with obsidian holds against even the strongest form, giving you a guaranteed place to wait out the chase until the Anomaly despawns.

Stop trying to destroy it. Many players waste an entire session attempting to kill, drop, or trap Verity, and none of it works. Accepting that Verity is permanent saves you the frustration and lets you focus on the only thing that matters, which is surviving its nights rather than ending its existence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Verity actually hear my microphone?
›

You communicate with Verity by typing in the chat box that the Talk to Verity key opens, not by speaking. The unsettling sense that it hears you comes from how it answers using real facts about your surroundings, like the exact direction of a village or your current biome. It feels like it is listening because it knows things it seemingly should not.

Can I kill or get rid of Verity?
›

No. The sphere cannot be damaged, and the Verity item cannot be dropped, thrown, or lost on death because it always returns to your inventory. Lava, cliffs, and chests all fail to remove it. Verity is intentionally permanent, so your energy is far better spent surviving its nights than trying to delete it.

Can the Anomaly break through my walls?
›

It depends on the form. The stalking Anomaly only breaks weak blocks like glass, doors, and leaves, so a solid wall stops it. The Breaker form smashes through most building blocks, including stone, so ordinary walls will not hold. Only the toughest blocks such as obsidian reliably keep the Breaker out.

Why did my hunger bar disappear?
›

Verity switches hunger off while it is active, keeping you permanently fed so the experience stays focused on the horror rather than food management. Eating still works and heals you directly, but you will never starve. This is intended behavior, not a bug, and it explains why your hunger bar stays full no matter how long you play.

Will Verity actually kill me?
›

The jumpscares are built to scare rather than kill, and by default they leave you alive at low health. The real risk is the chase itself, because the Anomaly’s strikes during a sprint deal heavy damage and can drop you if it catches you repeatedly. Survive the chase and you survive the night.

What does the three-day warning mean?
›

On your first night, Verity says “Something is coming in 3 days,” which starts a countdown. The second day brings alarms and disappearances, and from the third night onward the Verity Anomaly begins hunting you during the night. The warning is the mod telling you exactly when the friendly phase ends and the danger begins.
