The Obsessed is a psychological horror mod that introduces a mysterious arachnoid entity that becomes fixated on a single player. Unlike traditional hostile mobs, The Obsessed watches, follows, and stalks its target rather than attacking directly.
The mod centers around a unique mood system that tracks how The Obsessed feels about you. Keep it happy by accepting its gifts, or face increasingly unsettling consequences if you ignore it. This guide covers everything you need to know about surviving your obsessive stalker.
Getting Started
How The Obsession Begins
The Obsessed does not spawn naturally in biomes like other mobs. Instead, it begins targeting a player through random events while exploring the Overworld. Once targeted, you will become the focus of its attention for the remainder of your playthrough.

By default, only one player per world can be targeted at a time. If you play on a multiplayer server, The Obsessed will fixate on a single player and ignore others. This can be changed in the configuration file to allow multiple targets.
When The Obsessed first notices you, you'll receive the "First Impressions" advancement with the description: "Caught the eye of The Obsessed, becoming an instant target of its fascination." This confirms you have become its target.
Understanding the Mood System
The core mechanic of this mod is the mood system. The Obsessed has a mood value ranging from -5 (very unhappy) to +5 (very happy). Your interactions determine how it feels about you, which, in turn, directly affects its behavior.

When The Obsessed is happy, it behaves more passively and leaves you gifts. When unhappy, it becomes aggressive, intrusive, and may attempt to abduct you. The mood naturally decreases over time as it spawns multiple times without receiving positive interactions.
Ways to Increase Mood
Picking up gifts left by The Obsessed increases its mood by +1 for the first pickup of each gift type. Eating certain consumable gifts also grants +1 mood. The most effective way to keep The Obsessed happy is to actively engage with what it gives you.

Leaving gifts on the ground or ignoring The Obsessed will cause its mood to drop. After a certain number of spawns (default: 8), its mood automatically decreases by 1 point if you haven't interacted positively.
The Obsessed Entity
Base Stats and Appearance
The Obsessed has 500 health, no armor, and deals 8 damage with melee attacks. It has an exceptionally long follow range of 200 blocks and high knockback resistance of 0.7, making it difficult to push away when it gets close.
The Obsessed - Base Form
The entity is immune to numerous damage types, including fall damage, drowning, fire, lightning, wither, magic, and potion effects. This makes it nearly impossible to be harmed by environmental hazards.

Behavioral Modes
The Obsessed has over 25 different behavioral variants that it cycles through based on mood and random chance. Each mode creates unique and unsettling encounters designed to build psychological tension.
In its default state, The Obsessed will flee from players within 30 blocks while still watching. It can break doors, stroll randomly, and look around. Despite fleeing, it always keeps you in its sight.
Stalker Mode: Watches from a distance and flees when approached.Tree/Corner Mode: Hides in trees or dark corners, appearing when you least expect it.Mimic Mode: Can repeat chat messages you've sent, adding to the creep factor.Intrude Mode: Enters your base, replaces torches with Redstone Torches, and plants Wither Roses.Deposit Mode: Leaves gifts for you to find.

Unhappy Mode
When the mood drops below zero, The Obsessed enters unhappy variants. In this state, it becomes more aggressive, actively targets players, and can break doors to reach you. It uses an "angry" texture to indicate its displeasure.
The unhappy version retains 500 health and 8 damage, but its behavior shifts from passive stalking to active pursuit. It will climb walls, crawl through tight spaces, and attack if cornered.
Jealous Mode
The Obsessed becomes jealous when you interact with animals. In this mode, it actively hunts and kills wolves and other animals near you, dealing 15 damage per hit. It moves at double the attack speed of its base form.
Jealous Form
This mode triggers when you pet, feed, or tame animals. The Obsessed views your attention to other creatures as a betrayal and will eliminate the competition.
Abduct Mode
At very low mood, The Obsessed may attempt to abduct you. The abduction variant moves faster at 0.46 speed and uses special grab animations. It deals no direct damage but will carry you away to an unknown location.
This mode can break leaves, non-stained glass, and doors as it pursues you. The only way to prevent abduction is to maintain a positive mood or use the Supreme Repellant item.
Tamed Mode
At maximum positive mood (+5), The Obsessed enters a protective tamed state. It will attack anything that hurts you, dealing 15 damage to hostile mobs. In this mode, it becomes an ally rather than a stalker.
The tamed variant can run, climb, and crawl while defending you. It responds to HurtByTarget goals, meaning any entity that damages you becomes its target.
Arachnoid Obsessor
The Obsessed has a terrifying spider form called the Arachnoid Obsessor. This version has 1024 health and is completely invulnerable to all player damage sources, including direct attacks, arrows, and potions.

Arachnoid Obsessor
The Arachnoid form plays a subtle heartbeat sound effect, adding to the horror atmosphere. It cannot be killed by conventional means and can only be removed by escaping its detection or using Supreme Repellant.
Players who are uncomfortable with spider imagery can disable all arachnoid forms in the configuration file by setting "Allow arachnophobia elements" to false.
Sleep Paralysis Demon
One of the most unsettling hallucination types is the Sleep Paralysis Demon. This entity appears when you're sleeping and hovers in the air, staring at you with its "lean forward" animation.
The Sleep Paralysis variant uses flying navigation and cannot be knocked down. It is completely immune to damage, including fall damage, arrows, and all environmental hazards. It simply watches you and disappears after a set duration.
Sleep Paralysis Demon Hallucination
Hallucinations can be disabled entirely in the configuration file if the horror elements become too intense for your playthrough.
Supreme Repellant
The Supreme Repellant is an Epic-rarity item that completely prevents The Obsessed from targeting you. Dropped from the Obsessed Stalker, if in your inventory, it blocks new obsessions from forming and repulses hostile mobs that attack you.

Supreme Repellant
If you already have an active obsession, eating the Supreme Repellant removes it entirely. This is the only reliable way to end The Obsessed's fixation on you besides waiting 20 minutes in a non-Overworld dimension.
The Supreme Repellant is an escape mechanism for players who want to end their experience with The Obsessed. Use it wisely as it removes the core horror experience of the mod.
Gift Items
The Obsessed leaves various disturbing gifts for you to find. Each gift increases mood by +1 on first pickup, and some provide additional mood bonuses when consumed. Here are all the gift items and their effects:
Crushed Animal Remains
Restores 4 hunger points with 0.3 saturation. Grants +1 mood on first pickup and another +1 mood when eaten. This is the most efficient gift for increasing mood.
Decaying Lump of Flesh
Restores only 1 hunger point with 0.1 saturation and can always be eaten even when full. Grants +1 mood on first pickup and +1 mood when consumed.
Withered Mushroom
Restores 7 hunger points with 0.3 saturation. Grants +1 mood on first pickup only. Uses no eating animation.
Non-Consumable Gifts
Several gifts cannot be eaten but still provide +1 mood on first pickup: Necrotic Fang, Silk-Wrapped Insect, Diseased Ball of Hair, Ancient Tattered Robes, Blackened Sewer Mush, Decayed Animal Heart, and Femur Fragment.
Dusty Spider Egg
Grants +1 mood on first pickup and another +1 mood when placed in the world. Right-click on a block to place it and receive the bonus.
Carapace Amulet
A special item that grants +1 mood on first pickup. While in your inventory, it has a 50% chance to grant momentary Regeneration whenever an arthropod-type mob (spiders, silverfish, endermites) attacks you.
Status Effects
Obsession Immunity
A beneficial hidden effect that prevents The Obsessed from targeting you. The effect icon is not visible in the GUI, creating a subtle protection. This effect is applied by the Supreme Repellant.
Zoom Slow
A neutral effect is applied during certain encounters. It zooms your camera and slows your movement, creating a horror cinematic effect. The effect icon is hidden from the GUI.
Tips for Survival
Accept the gifts. Always pick up items The Obsessed leaves for you. Each unique gift gives +1 mood on first pickup.Eat the consumables. Crushed Animal Remains and Decaying Lump give additional +1 mood when eaten.Avoid pets in danger zones. Don't interact with animals when The Obsessed is nearby, or it will kill them out of jealousy.Keep the Supreme Repellant handy. If the experience becomes too intense, eating it ends the obsession.Sleep carefully. The Sleep Paralysis Demon can appear when you use beds.
Escaping The Obsession
If you want to end the obsession without the Supreme Repellant, travel to the Nether or End and stay there for 20 minutes. The Obsessed only operates in the Overworld and will lose interest if you're absent long enough.
Remember that killing The Obsessed is nearly impossible. The base form is immune to most environmental damage, and the Arachnoid form cannot be harmed by players at all. Focus on managing mood rather than combat.
