Simple Conveyor Belts

Simple Conveyor Belts is a mod that makes creating conveyor belts much easier, enabling most players to set them up quickly. Simple Conveyor Belts streamlines the process of building transportation and sorting systems in Survival, particularly in comparison to the more complex variations found in other mods, such as Create.

The Simple Conveyor Belt systems can twist and bend to accommodate the terrain and aesthetic preferences of the player. Filters can be used as either filters or applied to function as sorting systems or essentially transport systems from point A to point B.

How to make Conveyor Belts

All Conveyor Belt Systems require at least 2 Chests, 2 Conveyor Belt Chutes, and a Conveyor Belt.

There are also Conveyor supports, which, while optional, can be used to guide the Conveyor Belts more accurately and lessen strain on bends.

Conveyor Item Chute

This item is the first required for Simple Conveyor Belts to function, as it associates Chests with the Conveyor Belt, acting as the entry and exit point for Chests.

Crafting this item requires a Copper Ingot and 4 Planks of Wood. Realistically, Players won’t need to craft this many times, as the Chute recipe generates 16 Chutes, allowing for the setup of 8 Conveyors.

To use this item, you first need to place a Chest, then Right-Click while crouching and holding the Conveyor Item Chute to connect the Conveyor Belt to the Chest. One is placed at the start point Chest and one is placed at the end point Chest.

Once the system is operational, the chest will hold items and move through the conveyor item chutes at both ends, for incoming and outgoing chests, as well as act as a Filter point if holding an item and right-clicking the chute.

Conveyor Belt

As one of the two required components for a functional Simple Conveyor System, this connects and serves as the active transporter of goods, allowing items to travel along the Conveyor Belt.

Conveyor Belts can be crafted using Sticks and either Dried Kelp or Black Dye, resulting in 8 Conveyor Belts that can cover great distances each. Only one conveyor belt is used per two chutes, meaning crafting this once would suffice for 8 Conveyors.

The Conveyor System will not move until an item is added to the outgoing Chest. This will be the first Chute placed, moving towards the second connected Chute. However, if the System is infinitely moving, the Conveyor Belt will always be in motion, for example, two chests and two Chutes interconnected.

To set up the conveyor system, right-click on an Item Chute at the beginning of the conveyor. Then, walk along the route where the conveyor will be installed and right-click on the Item Chute at the endpoint. During this process, you will see visual guidance: white indicates that the path is very safe and stable, orange means there is slight stress, and red signifies a sharp and unstable turn.

The official mod page indicates that a pile-up of items would occur if the System is too stressed; however, this feature has not yet been implemented.

Conveyor Support

This item is optional, and can help guide the Conveyor Belt Systems in the Correct Directions, as sometimes the automatically generated routes aren’t ideal or have problem areas.

A Copper Ingot and 3 Planks of Wood can be used to generate 4 Conveyor Supports.

A use case for this is to ensure smooth bends around other systems and avoid awkward corners that automatic routing might create, as these are unattractive and may not fit the area’s aesthetic. The amount of support needed is viable to the player’s preferences.

Another use case is to prevent overlap with other conveyor belts, as this can sometimes appear glitchy or may cause the system to malfunction.

Simple Conveyor Belt Examples

There are specific uses for Simple Conveyor Belts; the overall function is to transport something from one Chest to another. However, this can be implemented to further benefit from their use.

Some example applications for this mod include positioning the first Chest below a dropper, using it as a chest sorter, or simply utilizing it as a transportation system for moving items from one area to another. For example, you could be mining below ground and want to send stuff back up to your base.

Transport Items

The primary function of conveyor belt systems is to transport items from one chest to another.

For example, a miner with a completely full inventory may have to make multiple trips to clear out their items. However, with the use of conveyor belts, these trips can be avoided altogether.

Filter

While following the overall function, you can use the Conveyor Systems to filter things by right-clicking a Chute while holding the item you only want to go through this specific Chute. If successful, an image should be displayed on the Chute affected.

In this example, the left-most Chest contains both Dirt and Wood, which are both transported. The middle Chest has a Filter applied that only allows Wood through, so the right-most Chest receives only Wood.

Filter Systems can become more complex as more Conveyors are connected; a Single Chest can have four conveyor belts coming out, each with its own Filter to another Chest.
