MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod

Minecraft Guidess
16 Min Read

MrCrayfish’s Gun Mod is one of the most popular firearm mods for Minecraft, designed to feel like a natural extension of the vanilla game. Instead of flooding players with complicated systems or unrealistic mechanics, it introduces guns in a simple, balanced way that stays true to Minecraft’s survival roots. The focus is on crafting and upgrading weapons using familiar materials, meaning players won’t need to hunt for dozens of new ores just to get started.

The mod adds 9 guns, 9 unique attachments, a workbench for crafting and upgrading, 6 ammo types, and 18 custom enchantments, which would be enough variety to keep things fresh without overwhelming players. It’s a perfect blend of accessibility and depth, letting you experiment with different playstyles while still feeling like you’re playing Minecraft, not a different game entirely.

This is one of many of our Mod Wikis, here at Minecraft Guides. If you're interested in finding out about more of Minecraft's Best Mods, then check out our dedicated section! We allow you to sort by Forge, Fabric, Minecraft Version and Genre!

Getting Started: Concrete and the Workbench

To get started, the player needs to make a Workbench specific to MrCrayfish's Gun Mod, which requires 3 Light Gray Concrete Blocks and 5 Iron Ingots.

Light Gray Concrete Blocks can be made with Light Gray Concrete Powder. 8 blocks of Concrete Powder can be made by combining 4 Sand, 4 Gravel, and 1 Light Gray Dye.

Placing Powder Blocks near water should change their color to a darker color, signifying it is a Concrete block now.

Once the powder is made, placing this near water turns it into Concrete.

Guns

Now that the Workbench is made and placed, interacting with the Workbench should reveal 9 new weapons: Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle, Grenade Launcher, Bazooka, Minigun, Assault Rifle, Machine Pistol, and Heavy Rifle. Each gun has its own bullet types, Damage per shot, and ammo capacity, making it ideal for specific use cases.

To use the Workbench, interact with it, select the item you want to craft, and note the required materials. Once you have obtained the necessary items, they should automatically be used in the crafting process. Then, click Assemble.

Walk onto the Workbench (on top of), to collect the assembled Weapon. In Survival mode, the gun will need bullets to fire.

Pistol

The easiest to craft of all the guns, requiring only 14 Iron Ingots. Using Basic Bullets, this weapon fires semi-automatically, dealing 9 Damage per bullet.

This weapon can fire 16 times before needing to be reloaded.

Machine Pistol

This is essentially an automatic version of the pistol, requiring 20 iron ingots to craft.

This gun uses basic bullets, but each bullet deals less damage, at 3 damage per shot. However, it has a higher ammo capacity of 80 rounds.

Shotgun

Shotguns fire bullets scattered into a radius, dealing significant damage at close range, decreasing over distance. The Shotgun requires 24 Iron Ingots to craft.

This weapon takes an Ammo type called Shells and deals 18 damage per Shell. The ammo capacity of this weapon is 8 rounds before needing to be reloaded.

Rifle

The Rifle is a semi-automatic weapon that requires 24 Iron Ingots to craft. Rifles deal moderately high damage (15) per special bullet called Advanced Bullets.

This is closer to a DMR-style weapon, great for long-distance shooting. This weapon has an ammo capacity of 10.

Assault Rifle

Assault Rifles are Automatic weapons that fire a high amount of bullets per second, dealing more damage than pistols and Machine Pistols while having more recoil.

The Assault Rifle requires 28 Iron Ingots to craft and needs Basic Bullets to fire. Each Bullet deals 6.5 Damage, and the weapon can shoot 40 times before needing to be reloaded.

Heavy Rifle

This is the Sniper of MrCrayfish's Guns Mod, as it fires a very high damage at 18 Damage per Shot at a very slow rate.

The Heavy Rifle requires 36 Iron Ingots to craft, and fires Advanced Bullets. Though it doesn't have a Long Scope by default, players can attach one to this weapon to use it in its ideal use.

Minigun

Miniguns are known to have the highest rounds per minute. The Minigun can be crafted with 38 Iron Ingots and requires Basic Bullets to fire; it can hold a high amount of bullets (100).

Though it has a very high RPM, the damage per bullet is relatively low, dealing 5 damage per bullet, and the recoil can be slightly unpredictable.

Grenade LAuncher

The Grenade Launcher can be crafted with 32 Iron Ingot, and as the name suggests, launching Grenades requires Grenades as an ammo type and results in an Area of Effect, dealing moderately good damage.

Though the bullets don't travel very far, they typically have a short arc before detonating. This does not damage blocks.

Bazooka

A Bazooka is essentially an RPG, a Rocket-Propelled Grenade - requiring a Missile as an Ammo Type, deals much higher damage than a Grenade Launcher in an AOE attack, but can take a while to reload. This does break blocks as well.

The only weapon in this mod that requires additional materials other than just Iron Ingots, the Bazooka requires 44 Iron Ingots, 4 Redstone Dust, and a Red Dye.

Attachments

Attachments add qualities to guns, such as stabilizing, improving visibility, reducing sound, or helping control recoil.

Attachments can be added to weapons by holding the Weapon and pressing the Attachment key (default is the Z key), then dragging and dropping the attachments into the interface provided.

Scopes

Sights are mounted on top of the gun; they allow for better visibility by adding dots and magnification. Note that all Sights decrease Aim-Down-Sights speed, meaning it takes longer to aim through the Scope than using default sights.

Short Scope: This magnifies the gun's sight by 125% and adds a visibility dot, making aiming more precise than using the default sights. This is crafted with 2 Iron Nuggets, an Amethyst, and 2 Redstone Dust. Short Scopes suit most weapons in close range, except the Heavy Rifle.

Medium Scope: This magnifies the gun's sight by 150% and adds a visibility dot, making aiming more precise than using the default sights, as well as targets appearing larger. This is crafted with 4 Iron Nuggets, an Amethyst, and 4 Redstone Dust. Medium Scopes suit Assault Rifles and Rifles.

Long Scope: This scope offers the highest magnification of 200% and features a visibility dot along with targeting lines and drop-off markers, which enhances aiming precision over the default sights and makes targets appear larger. This is crafted with 4 Iron Nuggets, an Amethyst, and 4 Redstone Dust. Long Scopes suit Heavy Rifles.

Stocks

Stocks are attachments that go on the back of weapons to help control the gun's recoil. Three types of Stocks can be made.

Light Stock: Reduces both Spread and Recoil, meaning higher accuracy and precision, though at the expense of ADS speed. Requires 6 Iron Nuggets and a Gray Wool to craft.

Tactical Stock: Reduces both Spread and Recoil at a better rate than the light Stock, meaning higher accuracy and precision, though at the expense of ADS speed. Requires 8 Iron Nuggets and a Gray Wool to craft.

Weighted Stock: Reduces both Spread and Recoil the most, allowing the most accuracy and precision, though at the expense of reduced ADS speed and reduced fire rate. Requires 12 Iron Nuggets and a Gray Wool to craft.

Grips

Placed at the front of the gun, under the barrel. Grips reduce Recoil and sometimes boost ADS speed. There are only two Grips available in this mod.

Light Grip: This grip is a relatively small grip, intended for the second hand to hold alongside the Barrel, reducing recoil while increasing precision and ADS speed.

Specialised Grip: This grip is standard, intended for the second hand to hold similarly to the main grip. This style of grip can make it difficult to ADS, increasing the time taken to aim down sights, while still maintaining its function to reduce recoil and increase precision.

Silencer

A Silencer reduces the amount of noise when firing the gun, at the expense of damage.

The Silencer requires 4 Iron Nuggets and a Sponge to craft in the Workbench.

Ammo

To load weapons, you will need ammo. Each gun requires specific ammo to fire and deal damage. 6 ammo types can be crafted and used.

Basic Bullet: The most common of all ammo types; basic bullets can be used in Pistols, Miniguns, Assault Rifles, and Machine Pistols. 64 can be made with 4 Copper Ingots and a Gunpowder.

Advanced Bullet: A heavier bullet used in piercing rounds intended to do a lot of damage. Advanced bullets are used in Rifles and Heavy Rifles. 32 can be made with 4 Copper Ingots and a Gunpowder.

Shells: Intended for spread, they are only used in Shotguns. 48 can be made from 4 Copper Ingots, a Gold Nugget, and a Gunpowder.

Missile: Used to wreak destruction and destroy enemies and blocks, used only in the Bazooka. Each one can be made from 2 Iron Nuggets and 4 Gunpowder.

Grenade: Grenades can be thrown without a gun, or used in Grenade Launchers to deal AOE damage (But doesn't break blocks). 2 can be made from an Iron Nugget and 4 Gunpowder.

Stun Grenade: Stun Grenades can be thrown without a gun to temporarily blind enemies. 2 can be made from an Iron Nugget, 2 Gunpowder, and 4 Glowstone Dust.

Enchantments

Enchantments can be added via an Enchanting Table, without the need to find the books. All guns can use any enchantments.

White Dye turns the gun white, giving it a clean, bleached look.

Light Gray Dye produces a light gray or silver tone.

Gray Dye darkens the gun into a medium gray shade.

Black Dye colors the gun black, the classic tactical look.

Red Dye changes the gun to a bright red.

Orange Dye applies an orange finish.

Yellow Dye makes the gun yellow, vibrant, and bold.

Lime Dye colors the gun lime green.

Green Dye turns the gun green, like camouflage.

Cyan Dye gives the gun a teal or cyan coat.

Light Blue Dye colors it a light sky blue.

Blue Dye darkens the gun to a true blue.

Purple Dye applies a deep purple tone.

Magenta Dye colors it a pinkish-purple.

Pink Dye turns the gun a bright pink.
