The Winemaker is Vinery’s own villager profession, and you’ll get one by putting a
Fermentation Barrel down near a Villager who has no job. He takes the barrel as his workstation, and from then on he starts trading in grapes, seeds and the things you’d otherwise have to craft yourself.
The Winemaker is worth setting up early. A Novice already buys the grapes you’ve got too many of, and sells the seeds you’re short of, which turns a wild bush into a vineyard a lot faster than farming alone will.
There’s 20 trades across his 5 levels. All of them are read from the config file, so a modpack can change any of them, and the list below is the NeoForge default.
Obtaining
Place a
Fermentation Barrel within reach of an unemployed Villager and he’ll claim it. Any Villager without a profession will do, so a spare barrel dropped in a village is enough to make one.

Break the barrel and he loses the job again, which is the usual way to reroll trades you don’t like. Once the Winemaker reaches Apprentice though, the profession is locked and rerolling stops working.
Usage
Working Through the Levels
He levels the same way any villager does, which is by being traded with. Each level unlocks its own set of offers and the earlier ones stay available, so the list grows rather than rotating.
Novice is the level you’ll spend the most time at. Selling him surplus grapes is the cheapest
Emerald income in the mod, and the seeds he sells back are what let you plant properly, instead of hunting wild bushes.
The Trades Worth Waiting For
Expert is where the Winemaker starts saving you real work. A
Grapevine Pot for 6
Emeralds is cheaper than the wood if you haven’t found a forest yet, and the Taiga seeds mean you never have to cross a mountain range to start a Taiga vineyard.

Master is about the armor. The
Straw Hat at 12 Emeralds and the
Winemaker Apron at 18 are the 2 pieces of the Winemaker set that need wool and farm materials to craft, so buying them skips the fiddliest part of the set.
Bags and Storage
Journeyman brings the bags, which are compressed storage in block form. A
Red Grape Bag holds 9 grapes in a single block and doubles as decoration, so a wall of them is both a store and a display.
All 4 of the bags cost 7 Emeralds. That’s expensive next to crafting them, so they’re really worth buying only if you’re short on the fruit rather than the Emeralds.
Frequently Asked Questions
Place a
Fermentation Barrel next to a Villager who has no profession and he’ll take the job. The barrel becomes his workstation, and you’ll see the Winemaker outfit appear once he’s claimed it.
Any unemployed Villager works, including one you’ve moved in yourself. Villagers who already have a job will just ignore the barrel.
20 trades across 5 levels. At Novice he buys Red and White Grapes and sells both seed types, then Apprentice adds Wine Bottles and Apple Mash, and Journeyman brings the 4 storage bags.
Expert is where the
Grapevine Pot and the Taiga seeds appear, and Master sells the
Straw Hat and the
Winemaker Apron. Every one of these is a config value, so a modpack may well have changed them.
Two pieces of it. A Master Winemaker sells the Straw Hat for 12 Emeralds and the Winemaker Apron for 18, which are the 2 that cost wool and farm materials to craft.
The Leggings and Boots aren’t traded at any level. Those have to be crafted, so the full set always needs some crafting, even with a Master to hand.
Break his Fermentation Barrel while he’s still a Novice, and then place it again. He loses the profession, picks it back up, and rolls a fresh set of offers.
This stops working once he reaches Apprentice. After that the profession is locked, and breaking the barrel only stops him restocking.
