Starting: Scrap Ore and Scrap Workbench

The journey into Just Enough Guns begins with the discovery of Scrap Ore, the mod’s first ore addition. Scrap Ore can be found almost anywhere in the world and is essential for crafting early weapons and tools.

Mining scrap ore yields Scrap, the primary crafting ingredient for most features of this mod. Occasionally, you may also discover a rarer item called Tech Trash. Tech Trash is particularly valuable and can be obtained more frequently when mining with a Fortune III pickaxe, which significantly boosts resource collection.

This type of scrap can be found within scrap ores, which are typically clustered together. These ores can be located in gravel or stone, whether above ground, underground, or inside caves. When mined, these ores can yield either a piece of tech trash or 2 to 3 pieces of scrap. With the Fortune III enchantment, there is a chance to receive 5 to 6 pieces of scrap from each ore.

Once enough Scrap is collected, players can combine nine pieces of Scrap to create a block of Scrap. This block is then combined with Planks and Sticks to craft the Scrap workbench, the first tier of the crafting station in the mod. The Scrap Workbench is essential for making the initial set of firearms and attachments.

The Scrap workbench offers a variety of early-game weapons, including the custom SMG, double-barrel shotgun, water pipe shotgun, and revolver. These guns are relatively weak compared to later weapons and feel somewhat homemade or improvised, but they serve as a solid starting point for players.

For example, the SMG requires iron, a red sun repeater, and Scrap to craft. Scrap remains the core ingredient for crafting most guns in this mod. The Scrap workbench also allows players to create attachments.

However, at this stage, only the makeshift stock is available, featuring various types of ammunition, such as pistol rounds, shells, and even Molotov cocktails.

Early Weapons and Their Performance

The revolver is the simplest and cheapest firearm, firing weak bullets but allowing for fairly rapid shots. It features a fun reload animation, but reloading takes a while due to its design. Against common mobs like husks and sheep, the revolver can be effective with a two-hit kill on sheep and quick damage on husks.

The custom SMG, also utilizing pistol ammo, is automatic and produces a high volume of fire, making it one of the better early guns despite its lower damage per shot. The mod includes inspect animations for guns, adding a cool layer of immersion reminiscent of popular shooter games.

Shotguns, such as the water pipe and double-barrel models, use handmade shells crafted at the Scrap workbench. The water pipe shotgun is a single-shot weapon with decent damage, while the double-barreled offers two shots before needing a reload. Both shotguns excel at close-range combat but have limited firing capacity.

Molotovs and Weapon Attachments

The Scrap workbench also supports crafting Molotov cocktails using slime balls and fire charges. These incendiary weapons can instantly kill animals and set fires to the environment, adding a tactical option for crowd control or area denial. Players should be cautious about fire spread, but game rules can be adjusted to prevent unwanted forest fires.

Attachments are essential for improving weapon performance. Players can craft a makeshift stock using iron, wood, and scrap materials, which greatly reduces recoil. To access the attachment menu, press the 'Z' key. This menu allows you to add or remove stocks, barrels, magazines, and other upgrades. While not all weapons can support every type of attachment, many early weapons can be customized to enhance handling and accuracy.

Advancing to Gunmetal: Recycling and Gunmetal Station

After mastering Scrap and basic firearms, players can advance to mid-tier weapons by crafting a gunmetal station. This requires gunmetal ingots, Scrap, iron, and smooth slabs. This stage focuses on obtaining gunmetal, which involves building a recycler station.

The recycler station processes common materials, such as granite, into gunmetal grit. This grit can then be smelted into gunmetal ingots. To build the recycler, players will need Scrap, circuit boards, a cauldron, and a stonecutter. Circuit boards can be crafted using tech trash, which is obtained from Scrap ore or from the Scrap bin—a block that recycles iron items into Scrap and tech trash.

Granite mining becomes an important early-game task as players will need large quantities of granite to fuel their gunmetal production. The recycler is notably loud, so it is recommended to place it away from the base. Once enough gunmetal ingots are accumulated, the gunmetal station can be crafted, unlocking a new array of firearms and attachments.

Mid-tier Gunmetal Guns

The gunmetal station provides access to various weapons, including the semi-automatic pistol, pump shotgun, semi-automatic rifle, and assault rifle. These guns are stronger and more versatile than their Scrap-tier counterparts.

All guns from this stage are useful in later stages, as they can be upgraded into the best tier weapons available from this mod.

Gunite: The Highest Tier Workbench and Ectoplasm Farming

Gunite is the next material tier, created by combining gunmetal, diamond, and coal. With enough gunite, players can craft a gunite workbench, unlocking the mod’s most powerful and exotic firearms.

Players will need to collect ectoplasm, a new ingredient vital for crafting special weapons at the gunite workbench. Ectoplasm is farmed through a unique process involving soul campfires, cookies, and a new type of bee called a boo.

By right-clicking a soul campfire with cookies, players create soul treats, which can be used to transform regular bees into boos. These boos are nocturnal bees that require special nests or hives called boo hives or boo nests, crafted by wrapping soul treats around standard beehives or bee nests.

Once the boo hives are established, players wait for the bees to pollinate, which results in the production of ectoplasm. Shearing the boo hives over a campfire yields ectoplasm, which is used in crafting higher-tier ammunition and weapons.

Top-Tier Gunite Weapons

The Gunite workbench unlocks a variety of powerful firearms, including the Holy Shotgun, Blossom Rifle, Combat Pistol, Combat Rifle, Bolt-Action Rifle, and Burst Rifle. Each gun offers unique characteristics and requires different attachments and ammunition.

The holy shotgun and blossom rifle make use of ectoplasm rounds that inflict fire damage on undead mobs, making them especially effective against zombies, skeletons, and husks. The holy shotgun deals substantial damage and features a striking reload animation, while the blossom rifle has significant knockback but can be tamed with a tactical stock to reduce recoil.

The combat pistol delivers fast shooting with moderate damage, while the combat rifle resembles a golden scar and benefits significantly from attachments like weighted stocks and vertical grips to manage recoil. The combat rifle can take down iron golems efficiently when fully equipped.

The bolt-action rifle serves as a sniper rifle, characterized by high damage and a slow reload, utilizing scopes to enhance accuracy. Players can choose between combat scopes for moderate zoom or telescopic scopes for long-range sniping.

The burst rifle fires in three-round bursts and has significant recoil without attachments. Adding a weighted stock, vertical grip, and reflex sight transforms it into a deadly weapon that strikes a balance between ammo efficiency and firepower.

Utility Items: Flares, Grenades, and Stun Grenades

The gunite workbench also enables crafting of utility items such as signal flares, grenade launchers, and stun grenades. Flares create bright, long-lasting light visible from hundreds of blocks away, making them ideal for marking locations or signaling allies.

The flare gun, used to launch flares, features an inspect animation and reload sequence. Grenades provide explosive damage with satisfying multi-kill potential, while stun grenades emit a flashbang effect that can disorient players, though they have limited effect on mobs.

Factions, enchantments, and Blueprints

In Just Enough Guns, players unlock special firearms through blueprints—recipes that can be crafted with Scrap, paper, and lapis or found via fishing, raids, boss drops, and trading.

There are various types of blueprints, including standard, advanced, Nether trading, and oceanic blueprints, which offer exclusive weapons to that blueprint type.

Blueprints

Standard blueprints can yield weapons such as the M1 Garand-style Infantry Bolt Action Rifle, Repeating Shotguns capable of breaking wood, or a Service Rifle.

Advanced blueprints from Wither or Warden drops can reward exclusive weapons such as Explosive Charges, Rocket launchers, Hypersonic Cannon, or the Subsonic Rifle/Shotgun.

Alternatively, players can gain blueprints from trading with Piglins in the Nether to gain weapon blueprints such as Holland Fire or the SoulHunter Mk II.

Searching Chests in Shipwrecks or defeating the Elder Guardian rewards the Atlantean Spear and the Typhoon blueprints.

Raids and Factions

Just Enough Guns introduces new factions, including Radlers, Hell Hogs, and Nosy Business, which feature armed patrols and functioning AI. They typically reward players with unique weapon blueprints such as compound bows, LMGs, grenade launchers, or flamethrowers.

Enchantments for Firearms

Just Enough Guns includes a variety of enchantments designed to enhance firearm performance. Although some appear to be works in progress, they add depth and customization options to combat. They are applied to weapons as they would be in vanilla Minecraft.

Quick Hands reduces reload time and is available in two levels, I and II. Trigger Finger increases firing speed for automatic and semi-automatic guns and can even propel players into the air when combined with kickback.

Collateral enables bullets to penetrate multiple mobs, although currently, bullets stop after hitting the first mob. Reclaimed allows players to salvage a portion of ammo spent during combat, returning it to their inventory.

Overcapacity increases the base ammo capacity of weapons, while Accelerator boosts damage per shot and adds a pack-a-punch sound effect. Lastly, Puncturing enhances the ability of bullets to penetrate shields and armor, with higher tiers granting greater penetration.
