The Vampiric Spell Book is a Spell Book from Iron’s Spells ‘n Spellbooks that’s made for the Blood school. It holds 10 spells, and while it’s equipped it gives you 10% Blood Spell Power, 10% Spell Resist and 200 Max Mana, along with one extra level on Blood Slash and Blood Step.
It’s crafted from a
Ruined Book,
Bloody Vellum and
Arcane Ingots, so you’ll need to have been to an Ancient City and started collecting blood before you’re able to make one. The Spell Resist means it’ll also lower the damage you take from other casters.
Obtaining
The book is made at a Crafting Table from a
Ruined Book in the middle, with four
Bloody Vellum and two
Arcane Ingots around it. None of the three can be bought, and the Ruined Book is the hardest of them to find, as it’s mostly found in the Chests of an Ancient City, with a 10% chance in each one.

The bookshelves in the Lost Citadel can hold a Ruined Book as well, but only at a 1% chance, so an Ancient City is the place to look. Both Arcane Ingots and Bloody Vellum are crafted, and an Arcane Ingot is 8 Arcane Essence around an Iron, Copper or Gold Ingot.
Bloody Vellum is made by dropping
Hogskin into an
Alchemist Cauldron that’s full of blood. The Cauldron fills when a mob stands inside it and takes damage, with every hit adding blood, and no heat is needed. A vanilla Cauldron on a lit
Campfire will collect blood from a mob as well, though it’s slower.
Hogskin is dropped by Hoglins in the Nether, so the four sheets of vellum will take a trip there on top of the Ancient City. Collecting the blood is the slow part, as a full Cauldron is needed for every sheet.
Usage
The
Vampiric Spell Book has to be in your Spellbook slot for its bonuses to count, which you’re able to do by right-clicking with it in your hand. It holds 10 spells from any school, written in at an Inscription Table, and it doesn’t come with any spells of its own.
The 10% Blood Spell Power boosts every Blood spell, whereas the 10% Spell Resist and 200 Max Mana help whatever you’re casting. Spell Resist lowers the damage you take from spells, so it’ll help against the mod’s mages and the Dead King even when you aren’t using Blood magic.
| Bonus | Amount |
|---|---|
| Blood Spell Power | 10% |
| Spell Resist | 10% |
| Max Mana | 200 |
| Blood Slash | 1 extra level |
| Blood Step | 1 extra level |
The two extra levels are added whenever Blood Slash or Blood Step is cast while the book is equipped, even if the spell comes from a Scroll or another item. They’re added on top of the spell’s own level, the same way a Ring of Affinity works, so they don’t need to be written into the book.
A
Lesser Spell Slot Improvement can be used on it at the Arcane Anvil to add a slot, up to 12, and up to 3 Upgrade Orbs can be added as well. The Cultist armor adds another 10% Blood Spell Power for each piece, which goes well with it.
FAQ
Ruined Books are mostly found in Ancient City Chests, where each one has a 10% chance of holding one. The bookshelves in the Lost Citadel have a 1% chance as well, so it’s the Ancient City that you’ll want to search first.
Drop a Hogskin into an Alchemist Cauldron that’s full of blood. The blood comes from a mob standing in the Cauldron and getting hurt, so you’ll need to trap one in there until it’s full, which takes a while.
They do, as long as the book is equipped in your Spellbook slot. The extra level is added when the spell is cast, from wherever it’s cast, so a Blood Slash Scroll will be one level higher while you’re holding it.
They’re two different books. The Vampiric Spell Book is crafted and comes empty, whereas the Necronomicon drops from the Dead King with Blood Slash, Blood Step, Ray of Siphoning and Blaze Storm locked into it.
