The Netherite Battlemage Armor Set is the Netherite-tier evolution of the Wizard Armor, built for spellcasters who draw from multiple schools of magic. Each piece provides +125 Max Mana and +5% Spell Power to every school equally, and the full four-piece set delivers 20 total Armor alongside 12 Armor Toughness. No other comparable mage armor in the mod provides Armor Toughness, making the Battlemage set the most durable choice for pure casters.
Unlike school-specific sets such as Pyromancer Armor or Electromancer Armor, the Netherite Battlemage set amplifies every magic school equally. Single-school specialists will find greater damage output in their matching school armor. The Netherite Battlemage Robes include one imbuable spell slot that adds to your active spell wheel while worn, the armor is dyeable, and the pieces are fire resistant.
Obtaining
The Netherite Battlemage Armor Set is crafted by upgrading Wizard Armor at a Smithing Table with Netherite Ingots and Netherite Upgrade Smithing Templates, following the same process as vanilla Diamond-to-Netherite upgrades.
Crafting Chain
Arrange 8 Arcane Essence in a ring around 1 Wool block (any color) in a Crafting Table to produce 1 Arcane Cloth. The full four-piece Wizard Armor set requires 24 Arcane Cloth, so gather 192 Arcane Essence and 24 Wool before you start crafting.
Craft each Wizard Armor piece at a Crafting Table using the standard helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots patterns filled with Arcane Cloth. Both the Wizard Hood and the Wizard Hat (the pointed variant) are valid bases for the Netherite Battlemage Hat, so either works for the upgrade.
Take each Wizard Armor piece to a Smithing Table and combine it with 1 Netherite Ingot and 1 Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template to produce the Netherite Battlemage equivalent. This is the same upgrade process as converting vanilla Diamond armor to Netherite. Any spells already imbued in the Wizard Robes carry over to the Netherite Battlemage Robes automatically during the upgrade.
Usage
The Netherite Battlemage set shares the same Mana and Spell Power bonuses as the Wizard Armor it upgrades from, but adds Armor Toughness, fire resistance, and Netherite-tier durability. The Robes also hold an imbuable spell slot.
Bonuses Per Piece
Every piece of the Netherite Battlemage armor independently adds +125 Max Mana and +5% Spell Power to all schools. The full four-piece set stacks these to +500 Max Mana and +20% universal Spell Power. These bonuses are identical to the Wizard Armor, so the Netherite upgrade improves your defensive stats rather than your raw spell output.
Wizard Armor
Netherite Battlemage
School-specific sets like Pyromancer Armor provide +10% school-specific Spell Power and +5% general Spell Power per piece, totaling +40% school power and +20% general for the full set. The Battlemage set is better when your loadout draws from two or more schools, and it adds 12 Armor Toughness that school-specific sets lack.
Netherite Battlemage Robes Spell Slot
The Netherite Battlemage Robes include one imbuable spell slot, just like the Wizard Robes. Use an Arcane Anvil with any Scroll to load a spell into the Robes. Once imbued, that spell appears in your active spell wheel while the Robes are equipped, letting you select and cast it just like a spell from a Spell Book.
Only the Robes support a spell slot; the Hat, Leggings, and Boots do not hold spells. You can replace the imbued spell at any time by using a different Scroll at the Arcane Anvil. The Armor Upgrade System article covers how armor imbuing works and how the spell wheel handles equipped armor spells.
Upgrading at the Arcane Anvil
Each piece of the Netherite Battlemage armor can receive up to 3 Upgrade Orbs at an Arcane Anvil. Mana Upgrade Orbs each add +50 Max Mana, and Protection Upgrade Orbs each add +5% Spell Resistance. Fully upgrading all four pieces gives an additional +600 Max Mana or +60% Spell Resistance on top of the set’s base bonuses.
Other Upgrade Orb types cover different attributes including school-specific Spell Power and maximum health. The Armor Upgrade System article lists every available orb type, its effect, and how to obtain it.
Tips
The Battlemage set’s core strength is versatility across schools. If your Spell Book combines spells from two or more schools, neither school loses power from your armor choice. School-specific armors deal more damage for their matching school, but the Battlemage set amplifies all schools equally and adds 12 Armor Toughness that school sets lack.
The Robes spell slot is well-suited for utility spells you cast constantly but do not want occupying a Spell Book slot. Shield, Haste, Oakskin, and Evasion work well here since they benefit any offensive build regardless of schools used.
You do not need to re-imbue the Robes after upgrading from Wizard Armor. The Smithing Table upgrade preserves any spell already stored in the Wizard Robes and transfers it directly to the Netherite Battlemage Robes. Dye the Wizard Armor first if you want a specific color, since the dye is also preserved through the upgrade.
The fire resistance property on this armor protects the item stack from burning if dropped, not the player wearing it. Use a Fire Resistance Potion for personal fire immunity while exploring lava-heavy areas.
A common approach is to pair the Battlemage set with a staff held in the offhand. Staves like the Gray Beard Staff add mana regeneration and spell power while held, stacking on top of the armor’s flat bonuses.
For a more aggressive playstyle, keep a weapon with an imbued spell in the main hand and the staff in the offhand. You can deal physical hits and trigger the weapon’s spell while the offhand staff sustains mana recovery between casts.
Multi-school Battlemage loadouts often include spells with longer cast times drawn from different schools. The Amulet of Concentration, crafted from a Myithil Ingot, Myithil Scrap, and chains, makes these casts uninterruptible. Without it, taking a hit mid-cast cancels the spell and wastes the mana committed to it.
The Battlemage set’s 12 Armor Toughness helps against physical hits, but spell-casting enemies bypass it entirely. In boss encounters like the Catacombs, where the boss targets you with spells, equip the Heavy Chain Necklace for spell resistance or slot Protection Upgrade Orbs into your armor pieces.
FAQ
School-specific sets (Pyromancer, Electromancer, Cryomancer, etc.) provide +10% school-specific Spell Power and +5% general Spell Power per piece, totaling +40% school power and +20% general for the full set. The Netherite Battlemage provides only +5% general Spell Power per piece with no school-specific bonus. The Battlemage set is stronger when mixing two or more schools, and it provides 12 Armor Toughness that school-specific sets do not.
No, only the Netherite Battlemage Robes include an imbuable spell slot. The Hat, Leggings, and Boots do not support spell imbuing, and the Robes hold exactly one spell added to your spell wheel while worn.
The full Netherite Battlemage set provides 20 total Armor (Hat +3, Robes +8, Leggings +6, Boots +3) and 12 total Armor Toughness (3 per piece). The Wizard Armor provides the same 20 Armor but 0 Armor Toughness.
No, the fire resistance means the item pieces will not burn if dropped into fire or lava, the same property all vanilla Netherite items have. It does not grant the player immunity or resistance to fire damage. Use a Fire Resistance Potion if you need personal fire protection.
Yes, all four pieces are dyeable. Place any piece with a Dye in a Crafting Table to change its color. The default is dark navy blue, and dyeing is purely cosmetic with no effect on stats or abilities.
Crafting the complete four-piece set requires 192 Arcane Essence, 24 Wool (any color), 4 Netherite Ingots, and 4 Netherite Upgrade Smithing Templates. Arcane Essence is the biggest bottleneck: each of the 24 Arcane Cloth pieces consumes 8 Arcane Essence. The Netherite Ingots and Smithing Templates are used one each per piece at the Smithing Table upgrade step.
