Evocation draws on the magic wielded by Illagers, translating Evoker Fangs, Vex summons, and Creeper Heads into a full spell school. It covers more ground than almost any other school in the mod, with spells for fast melee damage, area explosions, crowd control, summoning, and even magical mining.
Whether you’re carving through mobs in a dungeon or staging a long boss fight, Evocation has relevant tools at every stage of the encounter. The school has 15 spells spanning Common to Legendary rarity, with cooldowns as short as 1.5 seconds and as long as 150 seconds.
Its unique spell book, the
Grimoire of Evokation, can be looted from vanilla Evokers and Archevokers. Evocation Spell Power increases the damage and effectiveness of all Evocation spells, and you can amplify it through the Archevoker Armor set, the
Evocation Rune, and the Grimoire itself.
How It Works
Conjured Constructs
Most Evocation spells work by spawning independent entities: evoker fangs rise from the ground, creeper head projectiles arc through the air, and firework rockets detonate on contact.
These constructs act on their own once spawned and are not affected by distance from the caster. Two spells,
Lob Creeper and
Arrow Volley, disable invulnerability frames between hits, so multiple projectiles from a single cast each deal their full damage separately.
The Slowed Effect
The Slow spell applies a custom Slowed debuff that reduces movement speed, attack speed, mining speed, mana regeneration, and cast time reduction simultaneously. The intensity starts at 10% at spell level 1 and increases by 10% per level, reaching 40% at level 4. Slow targets up to 5 enemies within a 3-block radius of your chosen target and lasts from about 20 seconds at level 1 up to roughly 32 seconds at level 4.
The Recast System
Summon Vex and
Summon Horse use the recast system for early dismissal. After casting either spell, a recast counter with 2 charges appears in your UI. Casting the spell again while the recast is active dismisses your summons and frees the recast slot. If you let the recast counter expire naturally, the summons stay active for their full 10-minute duration.
The Evocation Spells
Evocation is the illager toolkit: fangs, creepers, summons and barriers, plus a handful of utility spells that have nothing to do with damage at all. Its 15 spells run from Common up to a single Legendary, and most of them are cheap enough to cast freely.
Rarity
Cooldown
Max Level
Fang Strike
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 10 | 5s | 30 (+3 per level) | 0.75s |
Fang Strike fires a straight line of evoker fangs at roughly 1-block intervals, starting 1.5 blocks in front of you and scaling from 8 fangs at level 1 to 17 at level 10.

Its 5-second cooldown makes it a reliable primary damage rotation, and the line pattern rewards positioning in corridors or against walls.
Fang Ward
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 8 | 15s | 45 (+5 per level) | 0.75s |
Fang Ward creates concentric rings of fangs centred on your position, covering every direction. At level 1 you get 2 rings, and each level tier pushes more rings further outward.
Use Fang Strike against a single target ahead of you and Fang Ward when melee mobs surround you from several angles.
Firecracker
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 10 | 1.5s | 20 (+2 per level) | Instant |
Firecracker is the fastest of the explosive spells: an instant cast on a 1.5-second cooldown that launches a firework rocket toward your cursor and explodes on impact.
Lob Creeper
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 10 | 2s | 20 (+2 per level) | Instant |
Lob Creeper hurls a creeper head in an arc on a 2-second cooldown, and its hits apply no invulnerability frames, so consecutive throws all land in full.

Chain Creeper
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 6 | 15s | 40 (+10 per level) | 1.5s |
Chain Creeper conjures a ring of creeper heads around a targeted enemy or location, and any enemy killed in the explosion spawns a smaller ring of its own. The chain can repeat several times, turning one cast into a cascade of blasts through a group.
It is available as a level 1 Uncommon scroll, making it one of the first Evocation spells you are likely to pull from dungeon loot. Even at that entry tier the chain reaction clears a room faster than expected.
Arrow Volley
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 6 | 15s | 40 (+10 per level) | 1.5s | 48 blocks |
Arrow Volley targets a location up to 48 blocks away and summons a rolling wave of magical arrows that rain down from above. At level 1 you fire 5 rows of 5 arrows each, growing to 10 rows of 8 at level 6.

Gust
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 10 | 12s | 30 (+5 per level) | 0.75s | 8 blocks |
Gust fires a cone of wind within 8 blocks, launching enemies backward and applying the Airborne status. Enemies that collide with a block while airborne take bonus impact damage, scaling from about 4.5 at level 1 to roughly 9 at level 10.
It also generates a slight kickback on the caster near walls, so avoid point-blank casting in tight spaces.
Summon Vex
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rare | 5 | 150s | 50 (+10 per level) | 1s |
Summon Vex calls between 3 vexes at level 1 and 7 at level 5. They follow you aggressively, attack your targets, and last up to 10 minutes per cast. The 150-second cooldown is steep, so cast it before a major encounter rather than mid-fight.
Summon Horse
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 5 | 20s | 50 (+2 per level) | 1s |
Summon Horse conjures a spectral mount that only you can ride, with movement speed, jump height and health all scaling with your Evocation Spell Power.

It is also one of the cheapest spells to craft: a single
emerald,
Common Ink and Paper at a
Scroll Forge yields a scroll, which puts it within reach well before any dedicated Evocation gear.
Shield
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 10 | 8s | 35 (+5 per level) | Instant |
Shield conjures a stationary arcane barrier up to 3 blocks in front of you, blocking both projectile fire and mob movement. Its HP starts around 15 at level 1 and scales beyond 100 at level 10.
A well-placed Shield in a narrow corridor holds back several enemies while you cast freely from behind it.
Invisibility
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rare | 6 | 45s | 35 (+8 per level) | 2s |
Invisibility grants True Invisibility for a set duration, hiding your character, armor and held items completely while breaking mob aggro. It lasts about 10 seconds at level 1 and up to 35 at level 6.
It ends the instant you deal damage, so use it to reposition mid-fight, escape a bad situation, or reset aggro after taking a heavy hit.
Throw
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 5 | 8s | 10 (+5 per level) | 0.25s |
Throw hurls your held item as a projectile, dealing base Evocation Spell Power damage plus the item’s own attack damage. A higher-damage weapon directly increases the total, so equip your strongest before casting.
Spectral Hammer
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uncommon | 5 | 2s | 15 (+5 per level) | Instant | 16 blocks |
Spectral Hammer conjures a mining construct from the stone-type block you are targeting, up to 16 blocks away. It instantly mines a cube of material, leaving ores and rubble behind.
It only works on blocks in the Spectral Hammer mineable tag and cannot be used in Adventure Mode. Its scrolls appear commonly among the Dead King’s loot in the Catacombs.
Spectral Hammer destroys blocks in its target area. Do not cast it near your base or builds you want to keep intact. It only works on blocks in the Spectral Hammer mineable tag, but the area it clears can be large at higher levels.
Slow
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epic | 4 | 80s | 50 (+10 per level) | 1.5s |
Slow applies the Slowed debuff in a 3-block radius around a targeted entity, affecting up to 5 enemies for up to 32 seconds at max level. It is the school’s only Epic spell.
Wololo
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 1 | 10s | 10 (+5 per level) | 1.5s |
Wololo is a Legendary novelty spell that changes a targeted Sheep’s wool to a random dye colour. It has no combat function whatsoever, and it is the only Legendary spell in the school.
Equipment
Several items directly boost Evocation Spell Power: the Archevoker armor set, the
Grimoire of Evokation, and the
Evocation Rune and
Evocation Upgrade Orb. Stacking these lets you build a dedicated Evocation caster with significantly higher spell damage than general-purpose gear provides.
Archevoker Armor Set
The Archevoker set is the dedicated Evocation armor. Each piece provides +10% Evocation Spell Power, +125 Max Mana, and +5% general Spell Power. The full set uses the standard school armor material with 3/8/6/3 defense values (helmet/chestplate/leggings/boots).
Grimoire of Evokation
The Grimoire of Evokation is a unique spell book that comes pre-loaded with
Fang Strike (level 6),
Fang Ward (level 4), and
Summon Vex (level 4), with 7 additional open slots. It provides +10% Evocation Spell Power and +200 Max Mana. Obtained as a rare drop from Evoker-type enemies, not craftable.
Evocation Rune & Evocation Upgrade Orb
The Evocation Rune is crafted by surrounding a Blank Rune with 8 Evocation Focus items. The Evocation Upgrade Orb is then crafted by surrounding an
Empty Upgrade Orb with 8 Evocation Runes. Apply the orb at an
Arcane Anvil to add +5% Evocation Spell Power to any weapon or armor piece. Multiple orbs can be stacked on the same item up to the server’s configured upgrade limit.
Complementary Gear
Spellbreaker: A two-handed greatsword with +15% Cooldown Reduction. Not Evocation-specific, but pairs well with Evocation’s summon-heavy playstyle where shorter cooldowns on summon refreshes matter.
Tips
Use
Fang Strike as your main damage rotation spell early on. Its 5-second cooldown, low mana cost, and Common rarity make it the easiest Evocation spell to find and level. Positioning yourself so the line passes through a mob cluster multiplies the damage significantly.
Chain Creeper needs at least one kill to chain. Target the center of a group and aim for a mob with lower health so the first explosion triggers the chain reaction. In tight spaces with many enemies, a single cast can clear an entire room.
Save
Arrow Volley for high-priority single targets rather than scattered groups. The no-iframe property means a target that cannot dodge will absorb every hit in the wave, and the damage adds up fast. A stationary boss caught in a full Arrow Volley at higher levels takes damage well beyond what a standard single-target spell delivers.

Place the
Shield in chokepoints and doorways rather than open fields. Its stationary nature is a liability in the open, but in a narrow hallway it can completely block enemy advance while you cast freely behind it. Let Shield absorb damage while you channel a long-cast spell like
Summon Vex or Arrow Volley.
Invisibility ends on dealing damage, so never use it as a stealth attack opener. Its best use is breaking aggro mid-fight after taking significant damage, giving you time to drink a potion or reposition without incoming attacks. At level 3 or higher the duration is long enough to run away and reset the encounter entirely.
If you have access to a
Scroll Forge, emeralds are the crafting material for all Evocation scrolls. A handful of emeralds and some
Common Ink lets you craft Evocation spells, including
Summon Horse, before you find a single piece of dedicated Evocation gear.
When hunting the
Grimoire of Evokation, plan to clear multiple Evoker Towers in one trip rather than making individual runs. Each Archevoker guarantees an
Evocation Rune and a scroll regardless of the Grimoire drop, so you never walk away empty-handed. Looting III on your weapon improves the odds with every kill and is well worth having before you commit to farming these structures.
The Archevoker Armor set provides Evocation Spell Power on each piece and is the primary armor choice for a dedicated Evocation caster. Combine the full set with the Grimoire of Evokation and Evocation Upgrade Orbs at the
Arcane Anvil for the strongest Evocation Spell Power setup.
FAQ
The Grimoire drops from Evokers and Archevokers with a 1% base chance on player kill; Looting III improves this to roughly 3 to 4% per kill. Evokers spawn in Woodland Mansions and Raids, while the Archevoker spawns in the Evoker Fort structure added by the mod.
True
Invisibility ends the instant you deal damage to any entity, including direct attacks, spells, and
Throw. It is a repositioning and escape tool, not a stealth attack setup. Cast it after taking heavy damage to break aggro and find cover.
The Slowed effect reduces movement speed, attack speed, mining speed, mana regeneration, and cast time reduction simultaneously. The penalty starts at 10% at spell level 1 and grows by 10% per level, reaching 40% at level 4.
Summon Vex summons between 3 vexes at level 1 and 7 at level 5, calculated as spell level plus 2. You can only have one active cast running at a time due to the recast system, which holds 2 charges. Use the recast before the 150-second cooldown resets if you want to replace your vexes with a fresh group.
No.
Spectral Hammer only mines blocks in the Spectral Hammer mineable tag, which consists of stone-type materials. Ores, deepslate ores, and other block types are left in place when the hammer clears an area.
Throw launches whichever item is in your main hand or off-hand, depending on which slot holds your spell book when you cast. The total damage is your base Evocation Spell Power plus the held item’s attack damage, so equipping a high-damage weapon before casting significantly increases output.
