Eldritch is unlike any other school in Iron’s Spells ‘n Spellbooks. You cannot find Eldritch spell books in loot, and casting any Eldritch spell requires unlocking it first through a dedicated research process. In exchange for this barrier, you gain access to 7 Legendary-rarity spells with mechanics found nowhere else in the mod.
There’s a multi-shot beam that bypasses invincibility frames, a
shockwave that pierces solid walls, an evasion buff that teleports you away from attacks entirely, and a personal
pocket dimension only you can enter.
Eldritch Spell Power controls the damage output of all Eldritch spells. The
Signet of the Betrayer ring adds 10% Eldritch Spell Power and is the most accessible early boost. Unlike other schools, Eldritch has no dedicated armor set or spell book. You craft Eldritch spell books using Echo Shards as the focus at the
Inscription Table, and rely on general Spell Power gear alongside the Signet to scale your damage.
How It Works
Unlocking the School
Before you can cast a single Eldritch spell, you need to craft an
Eldritch Manuscript. Each Manuscript is made from eight Ancient Knowledge Fragments surrounding one Echo Shard in a
crafting table. Ancient Knowledge Fragments appear as chest loot across several locations.
The best source within the mod is the Catacombs, where Crypt Chests have a 50% chance of dropping 1-3 Fragments each. Ancient City Chests in the Deep Dark roll three times at 25% per roll, making them another reliable find. Citadel Vault chests and End City chests each carry small amounts as well.
The lower library wing of the Citadel is also worth clearing beyond the vault chests. players frequently find multiple Fragments in the bookshelves and barrels there during a single run. Wandering traders occasionally stock Fragments as a trade item as well, making them worth checking whenever one appears.

Right-clicking an Eldritch Manuscript opens the Eldritch Research Screen, a starfield interface showing all seven Eldritch spells arranged across a cosmic map. To learn a spell, hold your mouse button down on a spell icon while the Manuscript is in your hand. After roughly 0.75 seconds the spell is permanently learned and the Manuscript is consumed.
One Manuscript teaches one spell, so collecting all seven requires seven separate Manuscripts, meaning 56 Ancient Knowledge Fragments and 7 Echo Shards total.
Casting and Spell Power
Once a spell is learned, it becomes permanent to your character and can be placed in any spell slot. The Echo Shard is the Eldritch school focus, used when crafting Eldritch-enhanced spell books at the
Inscription Table.
Eldritch spell damage scales with the Eldritch Spell Power attribute, which can be raised through gear. The
Signet of the Betrayer ring adds 10% Eldritch Spell Power and stacks with general Spell Power bonuses from other sources.
Eldritch spells cannot appear as Chest loot or mob drops because the school does not allow looting entirely.
Eldritch Blast also cannot be placed on a Scroll due to its recast mechanic, though other Eldritch spells can be scripted to scrolls once learned. The research system is the only path into this school.
The Eldritch Spells
All seven Eldritch spells are Legendary, so none of them can be crafted at the
Inscription Table — every one has to be found. Three are combat spells, one is a defensive buff, and the remaining three are utility tools that change how you move through a dungeon rather than how you fight in one.
Rarity
Cooldown
Max Level
Eldritch Blast
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 5 | 15s | 90 (+15 per level) | Instant | 30 blocks |
Eldritch Blast fires a bolt of eldritch energy at your crosshair target up to 30 blocks away. What sets it apart is the recast mechanic: the initial cast fires the first beam and begins a burst sequence, letting you fire additional beams in rapid succession.

At level 1 you fire 3 beams in total and at level 5 you fire 7. Each beam deals 15 damage multiplied by your Eldritch Spell Power, and none of the hits apply invincibility frames, so every beam in the burst can land on the same target. You have 4 seconds between shots before the window closes.
Sonic Boom
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 3 | 25s | 110 (+50 per level) | 1.5s charge | 20-30 blocks |
Sonic Boom charges for 1.5 seconds and fires a
shockwave that travels in a straight line and passes through all solid material, hitting every entity in its path regardless of walls between you and them.

At level 1 the shockwave travels 20 blocks for 20 damage; at level 3 it covers 30 blocks and deals 36. That makes it exceptionally strong in dungeons and structures where enemies cluster in adjacent rooms. A camera shake signals the hit.
Sculk Tentacles
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 4 | 30s | 150 (+50 per level) | 1s | 32 blocks |
Sculk Tentacles summons rings of void tentacles around a targeted position up to 32 blocks away. At level 1 it creates 2 rings within about 2.6 blocks of the centre; at level 4 it creates 5 rings covering up to 6.5 blocks.
Each tentacle strikes nearby enemies once per second and applies 5 seconds of Blindness per hit. Base damage per hit is 8, scaled by Eldritch Spell Power but not by spell level, so raising the level adds rings and tentacles rather than damage.
Tentacles persist for up to 14 seconds and are immune to most damage, though Anti-Magic clears them instantly. They only form where there is solid ground beneath them, so they will not spawn over void or in midair.
Abyssal Shroud
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 3 | 200s | 300 (+20 per level) | Instant |
Abyssal Shroud is an instant self-cast buff that wraps you in an evasion effect. While it is active, any hit that would deal damage instead causes you to phase out and teleport a short distance to the side, taking nothing from that hit.
Duration scales from 6 seconds at level 1, to 12 at level 2, and 18 at level 3. Every successful attack triggers a separate dodge for as long as the buff lasts, which effectively makes you untouchable to most attacks for its whole duration.
It does not protect against burning, wither, freeze, drowning, starvation, or poison, and damage-over-time effects tick through it unchanged. The 200-second cooldown is the same at every level, so treat it as a once-per-fight emergency and activate it reactively rather than opening with it.
Telekinesis
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast | Range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 5 | 35s | 25 | Channelled | 12-20 blocks |
Telekinesis locks onto a living target within 12 to 20 blocks and holds them in the air for the duration of the channel. The held target floats near-weightlessly and becomes vulnerable to the Airborne status, which causes kinetic damage if they collide with a wall.

You steer the target by looking around, and deliberately slamming them into surfaces adds kinetic damage on top of the hold. The channel lasts from 7 seconds at level 1 to 11 at level 5, and at 25 mana it is by far the cheapest Eldritch spell to cast.
Planar Sight
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 3 | 200s | 150 (+50 per level) | Instant |
Planar Sight is an instant self-buff lasting 40 seconds at level 1, 60 at level 2, and 80 at level 3. While it is active you see living entities through solid blocks, giving you full awareness of enemies in rooms you have not entered yet.
The 200-second cooldown means casting it proactively as you approach a dangerous area, not reactively once combat has already started.
Pocket Dimension
| Rarity | Max Level | Cooldown | Mana Cost | Cast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 1 | 60s | 300 | 2s |
Pocket Dimension transports you into a private, persistent dimension that only you can access. The return portal stays open for 60 seconds before closing, and your room generates once on first use then stays the same on every subsequent visit.
The 2-second cast and the out-of-combat restriction make it a respawn point and safe storage room between fights rather than an emergency escape. Use it to log out safely, stash gear, or recover between dungeon floors. It is the only Eldritch spell with a single level.
Pocket Dimension cannot be cast while you are in active combat. You must disengage and wait for your combat flag to clear before the spell will fire. It also cannot be cast while already inside the pocket dimension.
Equipment
Eldritch is the only spell school with no dedicated equipment. There is no Eldritch armor set, no Eldritch spell book, no Eldritch Rune, and no Eldritch Upgrade Orb.
To boost Eldritch Spell Power, your only options are general-purpose gear like the Netherite Battlemage set (+5% Spell Power per piece, +125 Max Mana) or the
Tarnished Crown (+150 Max Mana, +25% Mana Regeneration). The Netherite Spell Book is the best general book choice with 12 slots, +200 Max Mana, and +20% Cooldown Reduction.
For weapons, the
Graybeard Staff (+25% Mana Regeneration, +10% Spell Power) and
Artificer’s Cane (+15% Cast Time Reduction, +15% Cooldown Reduction, +10% Spell Power) are the strongest general-purpose options. Both boost all schools equally, making them the default choice for Eldritch casters.
Tips
Unlock
Eldritch Blast first. It has the shortest cooldown at 15 seconds and its damage scales purely with Eldritch Spell Power rather than spell level, so even a level 1 Eldritch Blast becomes a strong burst tool as soon as you invest in Eldritch Spell Power gear. The
Signet of the Betrayer is a low-cost ring that immediately adds 10% to all Eldritch damage.
Combine
Planar Sight with
Sonic Boom. Planar Sight reveals enemies through walls, and Sonic Boom fires through those same walls. You can deal full damage to mobs in adjacent rooms before ever entering their line of sight. This pairing is especially effective in the Catacombs and the Lost Citadel, where enemies often cluster in closed rooms.
Equip the
Amulet of Concentration before casting Sonic Boom or
Sculk Tentacles in close quarters. The amulet, crafted from a
Mithril Scrap, a
Mithril Ingot, and chains, makes long casts uninterruptible. Without it, a single incoming hit during Sonic Boom’s 1.5-second charge or Sculk Tentacles’ 1-second cast cancels the spell entirely. Experienced players consider it essential gear for any dungeon run where enemies can close to melee range mid-cast.
Sculk Tentacles damage does not increase with spell level. Only the number of rings and the covered area grow. Raise the level to control larger groups, but do not prioritize leveling it for single-target damage.
Telekinesis pairs well with Sculk Tentacles: grab a mob, hold them stationary inside the tentacle zone, and let the tentacles land repeated hits while the target cannot escape.
Abyssal Shroud does not stop passive damage. If enemies have already ignited you, applied Wither, or inflicted poison, those effects continue through the shroud. Clear damage-over-time effects before activating it so the evasion window is not wasted on damage the shroud cannot prevent.
For the 200-second gap between uses, the
Alchemist Cauldron offers a direct substitute:
Evasion Elixir (brewed from Mana III potions) blocks 2 incoming hits, while
Greater Evasion Elixir made by adding dragon’s breath blocks 4. A common approach among experienced players is to keep a stack brewed before entering a major dungeon so an elixir can be used immediately after the shroud expires.
The Catacombs is the most accessible early source of Ancient Knowledge Fragments. Crypt chests there have a 50% chance of 1-3 Fragments each, so a full Catacombs run typically yields enough for your first Manuscript. Ancient Cities are the best vanilla-structure source, with three separate fragment rolls per chest.
Save your Echo Shards before farming: you need one per Manuscript and eight for a full Eldritch unlock. When running the Catacombs specifically for fragments, bring a spell-resistant necklace such as the
Heavy Chain. the Dead King boss in the deepest chamber casts spells, and spell resistance noticeably reduces the damage he deals during that fight.
FAQ
Yes. Eldritch is the only school that requires unlocking. Trying to cast an unlearned Eldritch spell returns a cast error and does nothing. You must learn each spell individually using an
Eldritch Manuscript before it becomes usable from a spell book or slot.
The spell is permanently learned by your character but does not appear in a slot automatically. this confuses many players. You still need to craft an Eldritch spell book using an Echo Shard as the focus at the
Inscription Table, then bind the newly learned spell to that book from the Inscription Table the same way you would any other spell. The Research Screen unlocks the spell for crafting and casting; equipping it still follows the standard inscription workflow.
No. The Eldritch school does not allow looting, so Eldritch spell books and scrolls never appear in chests or mob drops. Crafting an Eldritch Manuscript from Ancient Knowledge Fragments and an Echo Shard is the only way to access any Eldritch spell.
You need one Eldritch Manuscript per spell. Each Manuscript requires 8 Ancient Knowledge Fragments and 1 Echo Shard, so learning all seven spells costs 56 Ancient Knowledge Fragments and 7 Echo Shards total. Catacombs crypt chests are the fastest source, with a 50% chance of 1-3 Fragments per chest. Ancient City chests in the Deep Dark also reliably contain Fragments. The Citadel library wing is worth clearing as well. players frequently find several Fragments there in a single pass through its shelves and barrels.
No.
Abyssal Shroud dodges most direct attacks including melee hits and spell damage, but it does not protect against burning, wither, freezing, drowning, starvation, or poison. Damage-over-time effects continue through the shroud unchanged, so it is not a complete defense against enemies that apply those effects.
The Echo Shard is the Eldritch school focus. After you learn at least one Eldritch spell, you use Echo Shards as the focus ingredient when crafting Eldritch spell books at the Inscription Table. You also need one Echo Shard for each Eldritch Manuscript, so plan to gather Echo Shards from Ancient City chests before starting your Eldritch unlock.
No.
Pocket Dimension is blocked while you are in active combat. You must disengage from enemies and wait for your combat state to expire before the spell will fire. Its 2-second cast time also means it cannot be used as a quick reaction escape. It is best used as a safe room to visit between encounters rather than as a combat retreat tool.
