Archevoker

The Archevoker is a hostile illager spellcaster in Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, and one of them lives in the tower of every Evoker Fort. It has 60 health and 11 armor, and it fights with Fang Strike, Firecracker and wave after wave of Vexes, which are the most dangerous part of the fight. Every Archevoker drops an Evocation Scroll, with a 50% chance of an Evocation Rune and a small chance of the Grimoire of Evokation when a player gets the kill. Its tower also holds the Archevoker's Logbook, which can be translated and traded to a Priest for the Villager Bible.

Iron’s Spells and Spellbooks Wiki Updated 5 min read

The Archevoker is a hostile illager spellcaster in Iron’s Spells ‘n Spellbooks, and it’s the boss of the Evoker Fort. It fights like an Evoker with more spells to call on, sending lines of fangs at you, blowing up fireworks where you stand and summoning Vexes over and over, and it’s the main source of the Evocation Rune and the Grimoire of Evokation.

The Archevoker has 60 health, which is 30 hearts, and it wears its Archevoker Hat and Archevoker Coat for 11 armor. It casts faster than most wizards in the mod too, so a fight with one is mostly about dodging and dealing with the Vexes, rather than trading blows with the Archevoker itself.

Spawning

Archevokers only spawn in an Evoker Fort, a big illager camp with a stone tower in the middle, and each fort has one Archevoker in its tower. The fort isn’t empty apart from that, since it’s also guarded by Pillagers, Vindicators, Ravagers and a normal Evoker, so expect a proper fight on the way in.

Evoker Forts are quite spread out, with the game only trying to place one about every 85 chunks, and they generate in plains, forest, hill, desert and savanna biomes. A locate command will find one straight away, but if you’re playing without cheats, every Priest sells an Evoker Fort Attack Plans map for 24 Emeralds that points you at the nearest one.

The Archevoker’s Logbook

The tower also has the Archevoker’s Logbook sitting on a Lectern, and it’s written in an illager script you can’t read. To translate it, you need to find the Villager mage who’s locked in one of the fort’s cages. Not every fort has one, as the mage only turns up in about one cage in five, so you might have to check a couple of forts.

The caged mage is a trader, and one of his trades takes your untranslated Logbook plus 64 Emeralds and gives you back the translated copy. He also sells a few other bits, including a Blank Runestone and Greater Potions of Healing. The translated Logbook is the copy that a Priest wants, as he’ll trade you the Villager Bible Spell Book for it.

That’s the whole chain for the Logbook, and nothing in the game tells you about it. Find the untranslated copy in the tower, pay the caged mage to translate it, then take it to a Priest in a village for the Villager Bible. There’s no crafting recipe or table that translates it, so the mage is the only way.

Behavior

The Archevoker is always hostile to players, and it’ll start casting as soon as it sees you. It sticks close to its tower, patrolling within about 30 blocks, and it keeps backing off if you try to get close. Its own melee hit only does 3 damage, so almost everything that hurts you in this fight is coming from its spells.

Clear the Fort First

Clear the Pillagers and Vindicators around the tower before you go in, as fighting them while Vexes are coming through the walls gets out of hand quickly. A Bow or Crossbow lets you hit the Archevoker between its casts, since it keeps backing away from you anyway.

Attacks

1

Fang Strike

Straight line of biting fangs

Fang Strike sends a line of Evoker Fangs across the ground in whatever direction the Archevoker is facing. The line goes straight and doesn’t follow you, so stepping sideways the moment it starts is enough to dodge it. Standing still in front of the Archevoker is how you take the full line, and that’s a lot of damage at once.

2

Firecracker

Firework that bursts where it aims

Firecracker is a firework rocket that goes off at the spot the Archevoker is aiming at, almost straight away, so it’s less of a projectile and more of an instant explosion. It’s the attack that punishes you for staying at a distance without moving, so keep strafing and it’ll mostly go off behind you.

3

Summon Vex

Waves of Vexes every few seconds

This is what makes the Archevoker dangerous. Every five to thirteen seconds it summons another group of three to five Vexes, and they fly through walls to get at you. Summoned Vexes last ten minutes, so if you don’t kill them quickly you’ll soon be fighting a swarm, which does far more damage to you than the Archevoker’s own spells.

Defensive Tricks

When you do get close, the Archevoker can put up a Fang Ward ring or a Shield to block you, and it’ll cast Gust to blow you away if there are other hostile mobs near you, which counts its own Vexes. It also drinks potions to heal about 10 health when it’s hurt, and once per fight it goes Invisible to get away from you.

Kill the Vexes First

The Vexes keep coming as long as the Archevoker is alive, and each wave adds to the last. Kill each wave as it arrives with a sweeping sword or an area spell, and never let more than a handful build up. Watch the ground in front of the Archevoker too, since a full Fang Strike line on top of a Vex swarm is how fights go wrong.

Drops

Every Archevoker drops a random Evocation Scroll, up to eight Arcane Essence and one to three Inks. If you kill it yourself, it also has a 50% chance to drop an Evocation Rune, and a small chance of the Grimoire of Evokation, the Evocation Spell Book. It gives 25 experience when it dies, but it doesn’t drop its armor, so you’ll have to craft the set.

Archevoker Drops

The Evocation Rune and the Grimoire only drop if a player gets the kill. Looting III raises the Grimoire chance to 3.65%.

The Grimoire chance is 1.25%, or 3.65% with Looting III, so don’t expect one from your first fort. Normal Evokers have the same Grimoire drop though, so every Evoker you kill in a raid or a Woodland Mansion is another chance at it. The Grimoire of Evokation is a Spell Book that comes with three Evocation spells already written into it.

Evocation Upgrade Orb

The Evocation Rune is the other reason to farm Archevokers. Eight of them around an Empty Upgrade Orb makes an Evocation Upgrade Orb, and they’re also used in the Archevoker armor set. You only get one Rune on a lucky kill, so plan on clearing a few forts if you want the full Upgrade Orb.

FAQ

Where do I find the Archevoker?
›

Archevokers only spawn in the tower of an Evoker Fort. Use /locate structure irons_spellbooks:evoker_fort, or buy the Evoker Fort Attack Plans map from a Priest for 24 Emeralds. Each fort has one Archevoker.

How do I translate the Archevoker’s Logbook?
›

Find the Villager mage caged in the Evoker Fort, who’s only in some forts. He trades your untranslated Logbook plus 64 Emeralds for the translated copy. You can then trade the translated Logbook to a Priest for the Villager Bible.

Does the Archevoker drop its armor?
›

No, the Archevoker Hat and Coat never drop. It drops an Evocation Scroll, Arcane Essence and Inks, plus a 50% chance at an Evocation Rune on a player kill. You craft the Archevoker armor set yourself.

How do I get the Grimoire of Evokation?
›

It’s a rare drop from Archevokers and from normal Evokers, at 1.25% when you get the kill yourself. Looting III brings that up to 3.65%. Farming Evokers in raids or Woodland Mansions adds more chances alongside the forts.
