The Deadly Nadder is a Tracker-class dragon that hunts by scent and fights from range with pinpoint accuracy. You first meet it at Glade Roosts hidden in old-growth forests and jungles, where wild ones are proud, territorial, and quick to attack. Tame one and you gain a fast, agile flyer that fires a razor-precise beam of fire and looses spikes from its tail.
Its scales are as valuable as its wings. Every Deadly Nadder drops
Deadly Nadder Scales, the material behind
Fireproof Scalemail and decorative scale blocks. Like all dragons in this mod, it is completely immune to fire and
lava, so its own flames never singe it.
A wild adult carries around 160 health and moderate natural armor. It grows noticeably stronger the more it bonds with you, and stronger again once it matures into a Titan Wing.
Spawning
Deadly Nadders live at Glade Roosts, structures that generate in old-growth birch, pine, and spruce taiga forests as well as jungles and sparse jungles. They will not spawn out in the open, so finding a roost is the first step to finding a Nadder. The book describes them prowling temperate forests and glades, which matches exactly where these roosts appear.

Each Glade Roost is shared with the Hideous Zippleback, and the Deadly Nadder is the more common of the two at roughly 60 percent of spawns. A Roost Controller buried in the structure keeps the area stocked, spawning fresh dragons nearby whenever a player is around. See the Dragon Roosts article for how roosts generate and refill.
Wild Deadly Nadders spawn fully grown at the Broad Wing stage, so the ones you meet can already fly and fight. The fastest way to track a roost down is a
Glade Roost Map, which you can buy from a Hooligan trader and follow to the nearest structure.
Behavior
A wild Deadly Nadder is not friendly. It builds hostility toward any player it can see and turns aggressive once that hostility crosses its threshold, which the book bluntly sums up as “extremely dangerous, kill on sight.” Wearing armor and holding a weapon makes it turn on you far faster, since a drawn
Sword,
Axe,
Bow, or
Crossbow adds a large amount of threat every second. Striking one, even once, instantly pushes it to full aggression.
In a fight the Nadder blends melee and ranged pressure with heavy use of the air. Up close it bites for around a dozen damage roughly once a second, but its real threat is at distance. Its signature attack is a precise, continuous beam of fire that deals steady damage and sets you alight, and it strafes and dives while breathing it, especially in flight.

At mid-range it also fans out a Spike Barrage of three to seven tail spikes for about 6 damage each, firing roughly every ten seconds when you sit five to twenty blocks away. Despite its keen sense of smell and near-perfect aim, it fights best from a distance, so closing into melee range is far safer: the Spike Barrage cannot fire within five blocks, and keeping it grounded denies it the air its beam attacks need.
Its stats are not fixed. Every dragon rolls its own genetics, and a wild one only reaches about 60 percent of its potential. As your bond deepens it climbs toward full strength, and a Titan Wing multiplies its health and damage again, so a well-bonded Nadder is a very different animal from the one you first met. Because it is fire immune, lava pits and its own flame trails offer you no help against it.
Taming
Taming a Deadly Nadder is about trust, not force. You cannot simply right-click a wild one with food, because a wild dragon will bite your hand instead of eating. The trick is to drop or toss food on the ground near it and let it come to the meal on its own. A wild dragon that eats food you dropped warms to you three times as fast as normal feeding.
Put your weapon away and crouch while you approach, since a sneaking player does not draw the dragon’s attention and an armed one draws it fast. Toss food from a safe distance rather than feeding by hand, and never land the first hit unless you are ready for an immediate fight.
Find a Glade Roost
Search old-growth forests

Follow a
Glade Roost Map or locate the structure yourself in an old-growth taiga or jungle. Approach the resident Nadders crouched and unarmed so they stay calm long enough for you to work.
Toss It Food
Drop fish and chicken nearby
Drop
Tropical Fish and Chicken on the ground and let the dragon eat them. Tropical Fish is its special treat and the fastest way to earn its affection, while Chicken is its everyday favourite. Keep tossing food until its affection builds high enough to trigger the bond.
Complete the Bond
Crouch and interact
Once it has warmed to you it settles and offers a short taming window. Crouch and interact with it using an empty hand to form the bond before the moment passes. If you are too slow it grows impatient and you lose some progress, so be ready.
Saddle and Ride
Equip a saddle to fly
A tamed Nadder still needs a
Saddle before you can mount it, and it must be a full-grown Broad Wing to carry you. With the saddle on, climb aboard and take to the skies. See the Flying & Riding Controls article for the flight controls and the Taming Dragons article for the full bonding system.

The two foods do different jobs, so it helps to carry both. Tropical Fish pours on affection to speed up the bond, while Chicken doubles how fast a young dragon grows toward adulthood. Cod works too, but only as filler.

Young Nadders grow through four stages: Tiny Tooth, Short Wing, Broad Wing, and finally Titan Wing. They can fly from Short Wing onward but can only be ridden once they reach Broad Wing. To raise one from scratch, hatch a
Deadly Nadder Egg by placing it somewhere with a block light level of 10 or higher, such as beside torches. Breeding and hatching have their own dedicated guides, and you can command a tamed Nadder to follow, sit, or attack with a
Rattle-Staff.
Drops
A Deadly Nadder drops only one thing, but it is a good one. Defeating a wild Nadder yields three to five
Deadly Nadder Scales, and Looting can add one more.
You do not have to kill a dragon to harvest its scales.
Shear a tamed Deadly Nadder with Shears and it drops one or two scales without harm, then goes on cooldown for several minutes before it can be sheared again.
Deadly Nadder Scales count as generic dragon scales, so their main use is crafting
Fireproof Scalemail. Surround a Slime Ball with eight scales to weave a material that is immune to fire and lava and feeds into higher-tier dragon gear. The same scales can also be placed down as a decorative block.
FAQ
They spawn at Glade Roosts, which generate in old-growth birch, pine, and spruce taiga forests plus jungles and sparse jungles. Deadly Nadders make up about 60 percent of the dragons at those roosts, with Hideous Zipplebacks filling the rest.
Do not right-click a wild one with food, because it will bite you. Instead drop or toss its food on the ground and let it eat, which builds affection three times faster. Once it has warmed to you enough, crouch and interact with an empty hand to complete the bond.
Tropical Fish is its special treat and gives the most affection, making it the best food for taming. Chicken is its everyday favourite and doubles growth speed, so it is better for raising a young dragon. Cod works as basic filler food.
Defeating a wild Nadder drops three to five scales, and Looting can add one more. You can also shear a tamed Nadder for one or two scales without killing it, though it goes on a several-minute cooldown between shears. Scales craft into Fireproof Scalemail and decorative scale blocks.
Yes. Like every dragon in the mod, Deadly Nadders take no damage from fire or lava, and their own flame beam never harms them. You cannot use lava or fire as a trap against one, so plan your fight around direct damage instead.
Place the egg where the block light level is 10 or higher, such as next to torches or other light sources. Once the lighting condition is met the egg slowly hatches into a Tiny Tooth hatchling that you then raise to adulthood.
