Rituals

Rituals in Ars Nouveau are performed on a Ritual Brazier using a ritual tablet, which decides what the ritual will do, and there are two dozen of them covering everything from the time of day and the weather to stopping mobs from spawning or harvesting your crops. Each tablet is crafted, placed on the brazier by right clicking it, and then started, with some of them needing Source from a nearby Source Jar to keep running while others only use it once. A few are worth making early on, as they save a lot of time around a new base, while others are used for the mod's creatures and bosses, like the ones that awaken a Bookwyrm or an Amethyst Golem and the one that summons the Wilden Chimera.

Rituals are one of the systems in Ars Nouveau, and they’re performed on a Ritual Brazier using a ritual tablet, which decides what the ritual does. There’s 24 different rituals in total, and they cover quite a lot, from changing the time of day and the weather, to stopping mobs from spawning, harvesting your crops and even summoning the Wilden Chimera.

You’ll need to place the tablet on the Ritual Brazier first, and then add any extra items that change how the ritual works, before starting it. Some of the rituals happen once and then they’re done, like Sunrise, whereas others will keep running and use up some Source each time they do something, so it’s worth checking which kind it is before you leave one going.

The Ritual Brazier

The Ritual Brazier is crafted from an Arcane Pedestal, a Source Gem Block and three Gold Ingots. To use it, you’ll need to right click it with a ritual tablet, which places the ritual on it, then right click it with an empty hand to start it. Any extra items the ritual can use, called augments, are added by right clicking the Ritual Brazier with them, or throwing them onto it, before you start it.

Ritual Brazier

Rituals that cost Source take it from a Source Jar within 6 blocks of the Ritual Brazier, and they’ll stop and wait if there isn’t enough. Powering the Ritual Brazier with a redstone signal also pauses whatever ritual is on it, which is handy for the ones that keep running, like Sanctuary or Harvest, if you want to be able to switch them off.

Each ritual tablet is a shapeless recipe, made from an Archwood Log and a few items that match what the ritual does. Each one is named after its ritual, so the one for Sunrise is the Tablet of Sunrise, made from a Blazing Archwood Log, three Dandelions and a Clock. The tablet is used up as soon as you place it on the Ritual Brazier.

Every Ritual

The table below covers every ritual in Ars Nouveau, what it does and whether it keeps using Source while it’s running. The Source cost is how much it takes each time it does something, rather than a one off cost to start it.

A few of these can be changed with augments too, like adding Source Gems to the island and plant rituals to make them bigger, or adding an Emerald to the Ritual of Challenge to make the raid as hard as it gets. The Tattered Tome that the mod gives you lists every augment for each ritual, if you’re looking for a specific one.

Rituals Worth Making First

Sunrise, Moonfall and Cloudshaping are cheap and don’t use any Source, so they’re usually the first rituals most players make, as being able to skip the night or stop the rain whenever you want is handy on any server. The Ritual of Sanctuary is also worth setting up early, as stopping monsters from spawning around your base saves you from having to light up everything.

The Ritual of Harvest and the Ritual of Fertility are the main farming rituals, and they’re worth running next to a crop field or an animal pen with a Chest beside the brazier. The Ritual of Restoration is also good to know about, as it cures Zombie Villagers instantly and gives you the discount from curing them, which makes getting good trades a lot easier.

Rituals for Creatures and Bosses

Four of the rituals are how you get some of the creatures in Ars Nouveau. The Ritual of Awakening makes an Amethyst Golem from Budding Amethyst, and with a Book and Quill added it makes the charms for Bookwyrms instead, whereas the Ritual of Binding turns creatures into familiars.

The Ritual of Containment catches mobs in a Containment Jar, and the Ritual of Summon Wilden is how you summon the Wilden Chimera boss. Each of those pages goes through the ritual in more detail, including the augments they need.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you do rituals in Ars Nouveau?
›

Craft a Ritual Brazier and a ritual tablet, then right click the brazier with the tablet to place it. Add any augments by right clicking with them, and start the ritual by right clicking the brazier with an empty hand.

Do rituals need Source?
›

Some do and some don’t. Rituals like Sunrise and Cloudshaping are free, whereas rituals that keep running, like Sanctuary, Harvest and Fertility, take Source from a Source Jar within 6 blocks each time they do something.

How do you stop a ritual?
›

Powering the Ritual Brazier with a redstone signal pauses the ritual on it, and removing the signal lets it carry on. Breaking the Ritual Brazier also stops it.

Which ritual stops mobs from spawning?
›
