Ars Nouveau adds six new potions, which are brewed in a normal
Brewing Stand from an Awkward Potion and one of the mod’s plants or fruits. Two of them help with spellcasting, Mana Regeneration and Spell Damage, and the other four come from the fruit that grows on Archwood trees.
The mod also has a few blocks for storing and using potions, like the
Potion Jar and the
Potion Flask, and you’re able to get a Wixie to brew them for you. So if you’re using a lot of potions, it’s worth setting up a small potion area in your base with a couple of jars.
Every Ars Nouveau Potion
All six of them start from an Awkward Potion, and they work with
Redstone Dust to make them last longer and
Glowstone Dust to make them stronger, the same as vanilla potions.
Gunpowder and
Dragon’s Breath turn them into splash and lingering potions too.
| Potion | Ingredient | What it does | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Potion of Mana Regeneration | Your mana comes back faster | 3 minutes | |
| Potion of Spell Damage | Your spells do more damage | 3 minutes | |
| Potion of Recovery | Healing from every source heals you for more | 3 minutes | |
| Potion of Shielding | You take less damage | 3 minutes | |
| Potion of Freezing | Freezes the target over time | 1 minute 30 seconds | |
| Potion of Blasting | The target explodes when it runs out | 10 seconds |
Potion of Blasting is the odd one out, as you’ll want to throw it at mobs as a splash potion rather than drink it yourself. The explosion doesn’t break any blocks, but it does hurt, and adding Glowstone Dust makes the explosion bigger.
There’s also a handy shortcut for Awkward Potions, as a Water Bottle with an
Abjuration Essence makes one without needing any
Nether Wart. On top of that, the Wilden drops brew straight from a Water Bottle, with a
Wilden Wing making Leaping, a
Wilden Horn making Strength and a
Wilden Spike making a long Potion of Water Breathing.
Potion Jars and Potion Flasks
A
Potion Jar is crafted from a
Source Jar and an
Abjuration Essence, and it holds up to 100 potions of the same kind. You’re able to fill it by using potions on it and take them back out with an empty
Glass Bottle, which makes it a lot tidier than keeping a chest full of bottles.
The
Potion Flask is made in the
Enchanting Apparatus from a
Glass Bottle with two Abjuration Essence, a
Source Gem Block and a
Block of Gold, and it holds eight drinks of one potion. Upgrading it with eight
Manipulation Essence makes the potion last 50% longer, whereas eight Abjuration Essence makes it one level stronger but only half as long.

Brewing and Using Potions Automatically
A Wixie is able to brew potions for you, using ingredients from linked chests and putting three doses of each potion into a nearby
Potion Jar. The Wixie page goes through setting one up, and it’s the easiest way of keeping a jar topped up.
The
Potion Melder takes three doses from two different Potion Jars and combines them into one potion with both effects, which uses a bit of Source each time. The
Potion Diffuser uses up one potion from a linked Potion Jar every ten minutes and keeps applying it to everyone nearby, so it’s a great way of keeping Mana Regeneration going around your base.
Potions are also the fuel for the
Alchemical Sourcelink, which makes Source from the Potion Jars next to it. Potions with more effects, higher levels and longer times give more Source, which is where the Potion Melder really pays off.
