Enchanter’s gear is the name for the weapons and tools in Ars Nouveau that are able to hold a spell of their own, like the
Enchanter’s Sword, the
Enchanter’s Bow and the
Enchanter’s Wand. These will cast their spell while you use them like a normal weapon or tool, which means you won’t need to switch to your spell book in the middle of a fight.
They’re all made in the
Enchanting Apparatus, and none of them will cost any Source to craft, although most of them need a few Blocks of Gold and Source Gem Blocks. Once one has been made, its spell is added at the
Scribe’s Table, and it can be changed whenever you like by writing a new one over it.
Any spell for your gear can be planned in the Spell Builder first, which works out its mana cost and what each augment does.
Putting a Spell on Enchanter’s Gear
Spells are added the same way you’d write a
Spell Parchment, so you’ll need to place the item on the
Scribe’s Table and pick the spell you want in your book. Then sneak and use the book on the table, and the spell will be written onto it.
Most of the gear already has a form built into it though, which means the spell you write can’t have one. The sword will always cast with Touch, so a spell of
Ignite and
Extend Time is able to go on it, whereas Touch, Ignite and Extend Time won’t be accepted.
It’s the same with the
wand, except it starts with
Projectile and
Accelerate instead, so writing just
Break onto it will give you a wand that fires a fast Break projectile. Any effects and augments can be written onto it, as long as there isn’t another form in the spell.
Every Piece of Enchanter’s Gear
Each one is made in the
Enchanting Apparatus, with the first item placed in the middle and the rest on the Arcane Pedestals around it. The
Gauntlet and the
Fishing Rod are the only two you won’t be able to make on 1.20.1, as they were added in the 1.21.1 version.
| Gear | Middle | Pedestals | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Casts its spell with Touch on every hit, and boosts your Spell Damage while held | |||
| 2 Blocks of Gold, 2 Source Gem Blocks | Blocking gives Mana Regeneration and Spell Damage, and it repairs itself with mana | ||
| Source Gem Block, | Arrows cast its spell where they hit | ||
| Source Gem Block, Block of Gold, Manipulation Essence | Same as the bow, charged when it’s loaded | ||
| Nothing | 4 | Fires its spell as a fast projectile | |
| Nothing | 2 | Casts its spell on you, cheaper and for longer | |
| Nothing | Diamond, 2 Blocks of Gold, 2 Source Gem Blocks | Mines like a | |
| 2 Blocks of Gold, 2 Source Gem Blocks | Casts its spell on whatever you hook (1.21.1 only) | ||
| 4 | Casts its spell from a linked Scry Crystal |
Sword, Shield and Bow
The sword and shield can be used together, as blocking an attack with the
Enchanter’s Shield will give you Spell Damage for a few seconds, which the sword’s spell is then able to use on your next hit.
Harm with Amplify is an easy one to put on the sword for damage, whereas
Snare can be used to stop a mob from running off before you’ve finished it.
With the bow, you’ll still be able to fire a Spell
Arrow when you’ve run out of arrows, it just won’t do any damage, which is handy for spells like
Blink or
Grow. Augment Arrows from the
Imbuement Chamber can be used with it as well, and each one will add two of its augment to the spell, so Split Arrows are able to turn a single target spell into one that hits three mobs.
Wand, Mirror and the Rest
Your spell book only has room for ten spells, and the wand is mostly used to carry an extra one around, like a Break or
Blink spell you’ll be using a lot. The mirror will always cast on you instead, and its spells cost less and last longer, which is why it tends to be used for buffs like
Glide.
The Eye is a bit more niche, although it can be handy once you’ve got a few Scry Crystals set up around your base, as it’s able to cast from one of them without you having to walk over. The gauntlet and fishing rod are only in 1.21.1, and the gauntlet is worth making if you’d like to be able to mine and cast a spell from the same hotbar slot.

Once a spell has been written onto it at the
Scribe’s Table, it can be used like a normal
Bow. As long as you’ve got enough mana, the arrows will cast the spell on whatever they hit.
The wand already starts with Projectile and Accelerate, so the spell you write onto it can’t have a form. You’ll need to write just the effects and augments, like Break, or Harm with Amplify.
