The Amethyst Golem is a small creature in Ars Nouveau that looks after
Budding Amethyst for you. Once it has a home, it speeds up how fast the Amethyst grows, breaks the fully grown
Amethyst Clusters, and carries the
Amethyst Shards back to a
Chest, so it turns an Amethyst Geode into a farm that runs on its own.
That’s a lot more useful than it sounds, as Amethyst Shards are one of the two items used to make
Source Gems in the
Imbuement Chamber. So an Amethyst Golem feeding a Chest of shards into an
Imbuement Chamber is one of the easiest ways of never running out of Source Gems.
Getting an Amethyst Golem
An Amethyst Golem is made with the
Ritual of Awakening on a
Ritual Brazier, by performing it near a block of
Budding Amethyst without any
Book and Quills added. The ritual turns the Budding Amethyst into an Amethyst Golem, so the Budding Amethyst block is used up, which is worth keeping in mind if the geode only has one or two of them.
The same ritual turns Archwood trees into Weald Walkers, so you’ll want to do it away from any Archwood, or it might pick the tree instead. Once you’ve got the Amethyst Golem, casting Dispel on it turns it into an
Amethyst Golem Charm, which you’re then able to carry and place somewhere else by using it on a block.
Setting Its Home
An Amethyst Golem won’t do anything until it has a home. To give it one, use the
Dominion Wand on the golem first and then on a block, and the golem will look after everything within 10 blocks of that spot. If the block you pick is a
Chest or another container, the golem will also collect the shards and put them into it.
If the home isn’t a container, the golem still grows and harvests the Amethyst, but it just leaves the shards lying on the ground. So in most cases you’ll want to place a Chest right in the middle of the geode and use that as the home, as it keeps everything in one place.

What the Amethyst Golem Does
Once it has a home, the Amethyst Golem works through a few different jobs, each on its own timer. It looks for
Budding Amethyst within 5 blocks sideways of its home, from 3 blocks below it up to 10 blocks above, so it’s best to set the home close to the middle of the geode.
| Job | How often | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Grow | Every 15 seconds | Makes the Budding Amethyst nearby grow faster |
| Harvest | Every minute | Breaks the fully grown |
| Collect | Every few seconds | Picks up |
| Convert | Every 5 minutes | Turns a |
The last one is the most useful in the long run, since Budding Amethyst normally can’t be moved or made. Placing a
Block of Amethyst near the golem means it’ll eventually turn it into Budding Amethyst, so over time you’re able to build a much bigger Amethyst farm than the geode you started with.
It only ever harvests the fully grown clusters, and leaves the smaller buds alone, so you won’t lose any of them before they’re finished growing. The Amethyst Golem has 20 health, but only a player is able to hurt it, so it’s safe to leave down in a geode where mobs spawn.
Amethyst Golem Familiar
An Amethyst Golem can also be bound as a familiar with the
Ritual of Binding. The familiar halves the knockback you take, and knocks back anything that attacks you, and giving it an
Amethyst Shard gives you 3 minutes of Shielding. There’s also a Thread called The Amethyst Golem, made from a
Blank Thread and three
Obsidian, which gives 15% knockback resistance for each level.
