Abyssal Amethyst is the rarest crafting material in Aquamirae and the key to its endgame Abyssal gear. This glowing Epic-rarity crystal has no use on its own, but nothing in the Abyssal tier can be built without it. If you want the strongest weapons and armor in the Ice Maze, you need a steady supply.
You cannot mine or craft Abyssal Amethyst. It only comes from one dangerous source and a rare stash reward. Treat it as the currency of the Abyssal endgame and spend it carefully.
Obtaining
The Maze Mother is your main source of
Abyssal Amethyst. This rare miniboss drops 2 to 6 crystals every time you defeat her, alongside
Sharp Bones and
Prismarine Crystals. She does not appear from a spawner in normal play, so you have to hunt her down.

The Maze Mother spawns from the Anglerfish that swim through the Ice Maze. Each time an Anglerfish spawns naturally, there is about a 1% chance a Maze Mother appears at the same spot. Exploring the Ice Maze for long stretches is the reliable way to find one. See the Maze Mother article for the full fight.
Treasure Pouches give you a second, slower source. Each pouch you open has a 10% chance to contain a single
Abyssal Amethyst. It will never match Maze Mother farming for volume, but the crystals add up while you salvage the Ice Maze for other loot.
The Maze Mother only appears from natural Anglerfish spawns, so patrol wide areas of the Ice Maze rather than camping one spot. Bring your strongest gear, since she is fast and tanky and you will need several kills to build a full Abyssal set.
As the Maze Mother moves, she breaks the ice and snow around her into water, dropping anyone standing on a frozen surface into the sea below. Keep moving during the fight instead of standing still, since the ground beneath you can give way at any time.
Usage
Abyssal Amethyst is purely a crafting ingredient, and it appears in every recipe of the Abyssal tier. Weapons, armor, and the Smithing Template that upgrades Diamond gear all demand it. Every crystal you collect unlocks a piece of the mod’s best equipment.

The Abyssal Upgrade Template and the three Abyssal weapons also use
Ship Graveyard Echo, the trace left behind by the Shipbreaker. Keeping both materials stocked lets you craft those without extra trips. Save your crystals for finished gear rather than experimenting.
Crafting Uses
Abyssal Amethyst feeds three weapons, a full armor set, and the Smithing Template that ties the set together. The table below shows how many crystals each item costs so you can plan your farming. Every recipe here represents the top of Aquamirae’s progression.
| Item | Abyssal Amethyst | Made By |
|---|---|---|
| Abyssal Upgrade Template | 4 | Crafting Table |
| Abyssal Armor Piece (each) | 1 | Smithing Table |
| Abyssal Tiara | 4 | Crafting Table |
| Maze Rose | 4 | Crafting Table |
| Shatterblade | 4 | Crafting Table |
| Shatterspike | 2 | Crafting Table |
Abyssal Weapons
Three Abyssal weapons rely on the crystal. The
Shatterblade and
Shatterspike are crafted at a
Crafting Table with
Amethyst,
Diamonds,
Sticks, and
Ship Graveyard Echo, while the Maze Rose combines four crystals with four Echoes. All three sit at the peak of the mod’s weapon tiers, so expect to farm several Maze Mother kills to build them.
Abyssal Armor and the Upgrade Template
The heavy Abyssal armor pieces are made at a
Smithing Table, not a
Crafting Table. First you craft the Abyssal Upgrade Smithing Template using four crystals, a Terrible Upgrade Template, and four
Ship Graveyard Echoes. Then you smith the template onto a diamond armor piece, adding one more Abyssal Amethyst in the process.
The template is consumed each time you upgrade a piece and has no duplication recipe, so every part of the set needs its own template. A full four-piece heavy set works out to around twenty
Abyssal Amethyst once you count the templates and the additions. It is the biggest crystal sink in the mod.
The
Abyssal Tiara is the exception. This lighter helmet is crafted directly from four
Abyssal Amethyst and a
Totem of Undying, skipping the smithing route entirely. It gives you a cheaper head slot if you do not want to spend a template on the heavy Abyssal Heaume.
FAQ
Defeat the Maze Mother, a rare miniboss in the Ice Maze, for 2 to 6 crystals per kill. Treasure Pouches also have about a 10% chance to contain one.
No. Abyssal Amethyst has no ore and no crafting recipe. Your only sources are Maze Mother kills and Treasure Pouches.
It is the core ingredient for the entire Abyssal tier. You need it for the Shatterblade, Shatterspike, and Maze Rose weapons, the Abyssal Tiara, the Abyssal Upgrade Smithing Template, and every piece of heavy Abyssal armor.
Around twenty Abyssal Amethyst for the four heavy pieces. Each Abyssal Upgrade Template costs four crystals and is used up per piece, and each smithing step needs one more crystal on top.
